  1. Before I read through the thread, this was my #1 by a long shot...mainly because I was in attendance for it and my brother who is a Yankees fan constantly reminds me of it, especially given the collision course we are on for next Tuesday. Vividly remember it being 5-0 and Hicks at the plate with the bases loaded and 2 out. A base hit and this thing is done. Instead, he gets caught half-looking, half-swinging at strike 3 (clearly out of the zone low, home plate umpire called the swing without help). Molitor gets tossed and then A-Fraud happens. That was the apex of Perkins's 'closer disease' as you could see the frustration on his face (even up in section 305) after the hat trick dinger (which I called in a text to a friend before the inning started). My other nomination would be the extra-inning game 2 weeks ago against the Tigers where they got leadoff runners into scoring position twice in the extra frames and couldn't push them home. That was beyond frustrating, mainly because they have a tendency to go in those ruts where RISP are poisonous. But this is all in the past. Winning the next 7 games will make up for it.
  2. When I saw that Hughes was out and Milone was getting the ball, my heart dropped. But Tommy pitched a terrific game and the bullpen did their job. All they can do is take care of their business each night. Now Gibson has to figure out his life and take care of things tomorrow night.
  3. Totally agree. Can't control the Angels. Just have to hope to get help in that department. And if the Twins don't take care of Cleveland, it won't make any difference anyway. It's September 28th and there's meaningful baseball in our world. That's a terrific concept.
  4. One of my friends who is an Orioles fan was trying to convince me this morning that they still had a shot. My simple text reply to him -- "Ur done lol"
  5. It's so cute that the rookie umpire wanted to get his rocks off by tossing a player after the final out. That guy was very very average behind the plate just like his teammate was in last nite's game. I know calling balls and strikes is difficult (I've done it at the high school level for 11 years) but some of these umpires are continuing to show that they just don't know where the strike zone is on a consistent basis. I thought the Indians pitcher got hosed last nite before we put 3 runs on the board and tonite's zone was just as bad.
  6. But if I'm the Rangers, I'm worrying about what I'm doing and looking at what the Astros are doing since I'm chasing them for the division championship, which is much more enticing than a one-and-done crapshoot for the wild card. I'm just saying that no matter who you are, you have to be looking ahead because if you're worried about what's behind you, it probably means you're losing games and getting nervous.
  7. I've said this before -- should only be concerned with the team(s) ahead of the Twins. Today, it's the Rangers. If you're concerned about the Angels or the Indians, then that means the Twins are losing games and if the Twins are losing games, they're not going to catch the Rangers. Win today, hope the A's find some sort of offense to win another game and move on to next week.
  8. #2 -- I am a Bears fan and I have zero hope for this Packers game. #5 -- 1 game out...not dead yet. Keep the faith!!
  9. Agree with you on this. It's just frustrating to have the best pitcher in the AL beaten on his home field and give it away like that. Games like this one make it excruciating if they miss the WC by a game.
  10. I'm gonna go outside and get struck by lightning now. That'll be a better fate than watching this damn bullpen.
  11. Pedro Cerrano strikes again.
  12. On the last replay that FSN showed, the 3B was off the base but kicked his foot back at the very end and ticked the corner of the base before Plouffe slid in. 100% out at 3rd. Umpire is standing right on top of the play, nearly impossible to miss that one.
  13. Take it and flush it down the toilet. Nice outing you dumb **** May.
  14. *STANDING OVATION* Nice game, Duff. Bullpen will take it from here.
  15. I think we're having a wire crossed in interpretation of messages here... --It was scored correctly at the game. Definitely a double. --Someone said as the play occurred that it should have been an error. I said that it was definitely a hit because Altuve is too fast for Plouffe to have gotten him if he comes up with the ball. **IF** you wanted to be persnickety and give an error, it would be because Altuve got to 2nd and then you could say single AND an error.
  16. Not saying it wasn't a hit...no way Plouffe gets Altuve if he fields it cleanly. Someone said maybe it should be an error and I said if anything, maybe a single and error. But Plouffe had to lay out to get a full glove on it.
  17. Yes, but Altuve doesn't get to 2nd base. Hence why I said single AND an error.
  18. Sano better learn to hit the off-speed stuff because that's what everyone is going to throw him. Can't be another Pedro Cerrano.
  19. Who was saying something about swinging at the first pitch on Keuchel?
  20. They don't give out errors anymore unless it's egregious. And even then, the hitter will call the press box and whine about it. Agreed that it should be a single and an error to allow Altuve to get to 2nd. But, no harm done.
  21. Yep, he hosed Tyler on 2 pitches in that last half inning. Classic case of the ump having a preconceived notion that a rookie pitcher doesn't get those calls but an established one like Keuchel does. That's why 75% of the current umpiring crew needs to be replaced (and give a job to me!!).
  22. Nice start for the hometown kid. He's gonna have to keep matching 0's since I don't see Keuchel bending anytime soon.
  23. Am I wrong to say that the pregame host on FSN is easy on the eyes? Nice to be able to watch 2 straight games on an HD screen.
  24. When I was in college (back around the time the pyramids were built), I had a friend who often said when we'd play sports video games (hieroglyphic graphics!!) that "stats are for losers". To me, the only 'stat' that means anything for a closer is blown saves. Perk was perfect in the first half. That's effectiveness. But I remember having an 'oh oh' moment when he gave up the triple to Braun in the ASG and gave up the run. He had been untouchable and now he got dented. Then he comes out the next week and blows 2 saves and loses a game. Yes, he's injured and now, ineffective and difficult to be trusted. When healthy, keep riding him out. However, I think the model that KC used last year of getting to the 7th inning and then running out 3 power arms to finish off the game can be used by the Twins in the near future if these power arms in the system become ready. A Burdi-Meyer-May final 3 innings could sound pretty daunting. But I don't care what the other numbers say, if you can't get the job done on a regular basis, you shouldn't be closing. Right now, Perk is not healthy and shouldn't be closing. Jepsen was incredibly shaky last night but got the job done...trot him out there again today when they have the lead in the 9th.
