  1. OK- here's the situation: top of the 9th-Angels ahead 14-13, 2 outs, bases loaded, Angels bring in their toughest, meanest, ugliest left hander to face Fuld. Gardy decides to pinch hit- a.) Arcia b.) Floriman c.) Fryer d.)Nolasco e.)Vavra?
  2. My reasoning is: let's hope we can catch lightning in a bottle! Look what Santana has done. His play has created an excitement we haven't experienced in years. With Burton and Guerrier, you know what to expect. Their ceiling is extremely low. My reaction when they enter the game is,"oh no, don't screw it up." Yes, Burton might have been good in 2012, but that's ancient history to me.
  3. I believe Mr. Jokin is SPOT on. Meyer has another questionable start tonight:3.2 innings, 75 pitches-7 hits. Not bad, but not the type of outing that prompts a call-up. The real question that I have been asking also, is why are these 30+year old "vets" drawing a major league salary and roster spot? The FO must believe that they are vastly superior to younger players, or........do they believe......that the way to build a contender is to consistently draft higher in the spring draft (Buxton, Stewart, Gordon)? That seems a little crazy. I'm trying to find a rational explanation for this, but have no clue.
  4. Great point! And the only reason Cleveland is carrying 13 pitchers is that they don't need a 5th starter for something like two weeks.
  5. Whatever the reasons, I am very happy about Justin's resurgence! He is probably my all-time favorite Twin: a class guy, dedicated to supporting charities in the Cities, and a role model to his teammates. A normal slide into 2nd base probably erased a historic season for him. As great as his MVP season was, that year had the potential for greatness. He never complained about the concussion issue: you could see him struggling and it hurt to watch at times. He stayed in the lineup when everyone else was hurting during one particular tough stretch. He always played hard (the Twins way). I'm looking forward to the day the Twins retire #33!
  6. Send him down to DOUBLE A for 2 weeks. Let him get his confidence back, and maybe a little humility as well.
  7. The Twins need to be realistic, bite the bullet, and DFA Deduno. His stuff is electric, but IMO a major league team cannot afford to roster a guy who is that inconsistent. I doubt he is picked up, and I suppose that means the Twins would have to eat his salary. That also would leave only one long man in the bullpen (Swarzack). Why not put Pino there, and bring up May? That doesn't solve the bench problem, but makes the pitching staff much better.
  8. With the reference of Swarz-ie, I was wondering why he didn't pitch the 8th. I believe he retired the 6 batters he faced with relative ease, and with a day off on Monday, he would be good to go for the Angels series. No confidence for the big guy?
  9. Well said, gentlemen!
  10. I really hate to say it, but the Twins really miss Plouffe. Everything seems to flow from him-defense, batting order, and bench players. When he is back, Floriman goes back to Rochester, and TR can add a little fire-power to the bench.
  11. Time to trade Burton for Mike Trout before Twins change their minds....
  12. Just like I've always said, Burton's my guy........
  13. When is the last time Arcia got a hit. I think it was the last game in the Metrodome!

    Sid

After getting my daily dose of TD, I headed to the sports section of the Strib. That got me thinking, who in the heck has been writing Sid's column?
  15. He needs to learn how to turn on a ball, though..
  16. I don't believe he is on the 40 man...
  17. Oswaldo Aria is one of my favorite Twins. When he came back up from his wrist injury, he brought energy, enthusiasm, and attitude along with his power stroke. Sadly, he has regressed big time in the month of June. In his last 10 games, here is his line, and it's not pretty: 2-32(.063) with 17 K's, with 0 runs scored and 0 RBI's. On the positive side, he does have one double and one walk. His defensive play borders on little- league material. I believe it was in the Brewer series (I could be wrong) that Roy Smalley exposed the hole in his swing. If he could spot it, I'm sure the advance scouts could too. It appears his answer is to swing hard in case he hits it. How has that been working for you, Ozzie? Don't know what Bruno's advise has been, but I do know he has taken Mauer's lifetime average of .320, and turned him into a .250 hitter (I know, that's not fair). Maybe the Twins need to hire a young, Latin coach who could speak to them in a language they understand. The present situation doesn't seem to be working.
  18. I'm disappointed in Perkins. He is one of the leaders (supposedly) of the Twins, and his comments serve no purpose. The kid just got sent down, and it kinda looks like piling on. Pinto knows what he needs to improve on. Framing hasn't helped the Twins in the last 5 games!
  19. I haven't heard anything, but I was thinking the same thing. As an old retired guy, I watch nearly every game, and can't remember the last time he crushed anything to RF.
  20. What's up with this guy? I was watching him last year, and he was absolutely lights out at Fort Meyers (something like 9-0) with a crazy low ERA. He was promoted to New Briton was was shelled! He started this year at New Briton again with the same results. I believe he was hurt, and sent back to Fort Meyers. Tonight he threw 6 scoreless innings. Is he a prospect or not?
