  1. The first trip out of the gate will tell a lot. The series with the A's and Gray, then the division leading Angels, will be tough. Getting off to a good start could be the impetus to a playoff run! I'm looking a 3 players to be the key: Danny Santana, Trevor May, and Oswaldo Arcia. I think Danny returns to his hitting form of 2014, and his fielding will anchor the infield defense. If Trevor May can be the 8th inning guy, look out! And if Waldo can achieve some of his potential, the lineup could be dangerous. When will he be called up, though? No predictions from me, however, only an echo to what everyone has already indicated. Baseball is back in the TwinCities, and hopefully the fun continues!
  2. It would be fun to have a stud, light's out guy like Santana. I think Berrios will be good, maybe a #2 arm. Right now the hope for a real #1 guy might be Gonsalves.
  3. Buxton, Sano, and Rosario all have debuted for the Twins this year. Berrios isn't far behind. So who is the next stud we will be clamoring to be brought up to be our savior? I don't see anyone close to their status in the system!
  4. Great job, as usual Seth! I appreciate the transaction section especially! The transaction thread that is running unfortunately is not about that......
  5. As a Danny Santana guy- huge hit for a guy that I bet everyone watching was hoping would get pinch hit for. Molitor must have huge round ones- he was certainly setting himself up to get second guessed!
  6. You youngsters won't remember, but the only thing this comes close to this is the Killebrew homer against the Yankees in the last game before the All-Star break in 1969 I think. That game was the send off for the remainder of the year. Wow! Just effing awesome!
  7. In his first two games with the Rochester RedWings, Jose has gotten hit around a bit. In 10.2 innings, he has given up 14 hits, 10 runs, 9 earned runs, with 4 walks and 12 strikeouts, un-Berrios like numbers. His 7.59 ERA and 1.69 WHIP are uncharacteristicly high. However, this is not a concern. It's a part of his development, part of the maturation process. He actually pitched very well for five innings in his last start. Stay tuned- good things to follow-I have no doubt!!
  8. 1.) The manager has said he is best defensive SS, as well as the coaching staff, announcers, and anyone who follows the Twins know that,.1b)he hit .319 last year for starters 2.) he has made 13 errors so far. The SS for Seattle has made 25. 3.) his average is .221. Suzuki, Buxton, and Herrmann are worse 4.) he has 5 stolen bases. Bye the way, what does one do on the base? 5.) agreed- he is struggling right now. But tell me if he is this bad, why is he then starting?
  9. After watching Sano perform, I certainly do not put Buxton in the "starting" lineup next year in ink. I absolutely love his potential, but IMHO he is not ready right now, and might not be for the first part of next year either. When he is ready, look out! I think we have to consider the possibility of Sano going to the OF. Not the best option, but it might happen. I could see Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, and maybe somebody like Harrison in the 4th OF spot with Sano and Santana available. Now if Kepler is ready next year, and Buxton is too, well then.....there is going to be some excitement around Target Field! Then my outfield for next year (and possibly the next 10 years) would consist of: Rosario, Buxton, Arcia, Kepler, and Hicks with Arcia getting some major time at DH. Not Hunter. Torii is going to be 40 on July 18 of "this" year, not next year. I don't want him to block any of the 5 I have listed. He's been great this year, but his skills are going to erode at some point.
  10. Gotta stick up for my guy. Danny is by far the best defensive SS. And he can hit. I know, his .319 average last year was due mainly to his extremely high BABIP. So he can make good contact, but not so much this year. As long as they are winning, I'd say stick with Santana. Polanco is not an option, at least defensively. He made another error tonight, but also is hitting over .400 in Rochester. If they are going to play someone else, I'd say give it to Escobar and leave him there. Nunez could maybe play once a week, but he will eventually kill you with his glove.
  11. I don't get the love for other team's discards! And expect them to be serviceable for the Twins? Now I could understand Duffy or Wimmers. But not Meyer! He can't get anyone out at Rochester right now. How about sending him down to Chattanooga (like Vargas) to get some confidence?
  12. It's hard to not get a little carried away with Sano. He gives the lineup a presence, a legitimate power guy that every pitcher will be wary of pitching to. It's really not fair to him to expect that he continue at this pace this early in his career. His ability to identify the strike zone has really impressed me, especially for someone only 22. I'm also impressed with his attitude. No show boating, bat flipping, or aloofness you oftentimes see in players that have big initial successes. I can't help but think this added dimension to the Twins might instill a new confidence into the team. Let's hope this ride continues!
  13. About time! Always the optimist, I think Fryer will help. He has been hitting well at Rochester ( but it is Rochester). Fryer will be the Twins best defensive catcher. Really glad they made the move-Herrmann just bad no chance the past 6 weeks.
  14. He does change the dynamics of their lineup- no doubt about it. (By the way, he didn't flip his bat after the hit the HR. He did learn something in the minors!!)
  15. Thanks Chief! Needed to read all 4 to completely understand the process. I think I've got it!
  16. Could someone tell me how adding and subtracting players to/from the 40 man roster works? For example- let's say the Twins want to bring up Fryer, and therefore would need to add him to the 40 man. In addition, they DFA Herrmann and remove him from the 40 man. Fryer gets hurt or is ineffective, can they reverse everything in a month or so? Same with O'Rourke. Say he gets bombed, hurt, etc. Can they just remove him and add someone else?
  17. Against the Royals, you need to be ahead after 6. Not tied, down by one or worse. Their bullpen is absolutely lights out! Our bullpen is not! They won games 2 and 4 because of this. We were living on borrowed time with Boyer. Thompson and Duensing could not pitch for another team. Fien has been ok. Pressly had been coming, but what now? Graham has actually done better than expected, but Molly has no confidence in him. He and Perkins are the only ones that get you a K when you need it. So, because the FO neglected the bullpen in the spring, we have to live with these guys this year. The farm system does not have any saviors. Maybe May can help, but IMHO he's going to be back in the rotation when Pelfrey implodes. Come on offense, let's score some runs and put these games away early!
  18. Oswaldo Arcia hit his 4th homer of the season and drove in 2 runs for Rochester last night (2-K's as well). His average is up to .261. With an over crowded OF(Rosario, Hicks, Hunter, Robinson and Buxton to return(?) in a month or so) and Sano maning the DH position for now, will Ozzie ever see the green grass of Target Field's again?
  19. Perkins can't pitch in every circumstance in the late innings. I think Molitor has to look at the big picture-there were two more games after last night's game. Do you pitch him in the 8th? Then if successful, then in the 9th? So now he's pitched in the first two games against the Royals. Can he pitch effectively in game #3? And what about the Sunday game......... Someone else HAS to step up and help. You are never going to be successful over the course of a year unless you have guys that understand and pitch to their roles. The Royals are the definition of understanding this concept!
  20. Everybody has an opinion: here's mine. When all in said and done, Santana will emerge as the guy. He passes all of my eye tests- his hit tool will is definitely there, and his defense is much better than Escobar. He needs time, and he was robbed last year in his developmental cycle. He played a descent CF, although he had only played a handful of games there in the minors. He is smooth at SS, and had a great arm. Yes- he has made a lot of errors- none of which has caused the Twins to lose a game, BTW. Everyone needs to remember that few players arrive in the majors and are great immediately. Plouffe and Dozier are great examples of infielders that experienced problems in their first few years. Santana was given the job at the start of the year for a reason-I think the coaching staff believed then he was the superior opinion. There is so much hope and interest in the Twins right now. Sano and Rosario are up, Buxton will be back in a month or so, and the pitching staff has been better than anyone could have hoped for. Now the organization needs to find a SS, give him the job, and let him play, whether it's Santano, Escobar, or Polanco. I hope it's Santana!
  21. Herman literally has no chance at the plate. I would get Fryer back ASAP. I'll keep repeating this: games count the same in July as they do in September. If they are playing for next year, well then-ok!
  22. This is where it hurts to have Thompson as one of the relievers. Big series and he has one less option to use. Game in July counts the same as one in September.
  23. Was Wheeler actually released, or simply demoted to the Lookouts?
  24. Great job, as usual, Chi! Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but what happened to the Dozier avatar?
  25. Meyer is a good example of fans "getting what they wanted," and then immediately disappointing. Maybe there was a reason why he wasn't brought up last year and earlier this year. Granted, tonight was all about nerves, first game in big leagues, etc. But the point was made in the telecast, if he can't change speeds, he's going to get killed at this level, no matter how fast his FB is! Several posters have marveled that he is an amazing talent, and they probably know more about him than I do. But stud athletes, even in their early 20's, usually force their way onto a big league roster. Meyer hasn't, and just maybe, there is a reason for that.
