  1. Being versatile doesn't mean you are competent at a position. Having a couple of players that can move around is nice and can help a team. Even having a couple players that can fill in at different positions can be helpful in late game situations or short term injuries. But expecting players to excel at multiple positions is not realistic. Reps still mean something and that is what helps you excel at anything in life. The play for Lewis was not a simple grounder and I am not trying to overstate the difficulty. But he is holding a runner on and has to come off the base to field the grounder. Is he thinking or reacting, footwork makes a difference and that is where reps come in.
  2. This feels more like an article about a player you don't think should be part of the team. You try to downplay his improvement in May by saying he is regressing in June. This month he has started 7 games and gotten hits in 4 of them, doesn't seem like much regression. As others have noted Keaschall is who should be getting AB's, not the likes of Gray, Arcia, Kreidler, even Bell or Clemens should not get AB's over Keaschall. If our big league staff can't get him back on track then maybe they aren't the ones for the job.
  3. Falvey would so lets hope he gets hired somewhere real soon.
  4. Morneau kept talking about the humidity every time he threw it over Caratini's head.
  5. The pitching well may be dry, but there are position players in St. Paul that should be called up and try to inject some life into this team. And this should start with Culpepper, Gray is not a major league SS and it is getting insane that they keep running him out there.
  6. This is the result of anyone can play anywhere and not stressing quality defense. Yes Lewis didn't make a play on the grounder. It was his second game at 1B, there are going to be more plays that would be made by an experienced first baseman that he is not going to make until he is comfortable. This is on the Twins not on Lewis.
  7. They don't consider Paredes now, so it would just mean more bullpen games.
  8. Well we did just trade for another 30 year career minor leaguer who can't throw strikes, so help might be on the way,
  9. Would you prefer Lawrence, I mean there are minimal options when you have to cover almost 5 innings.
  10. The clock is striking midnight for Taj and he is turning into a pumpkin. They need to run him out there this year, but really have to think about giving him a spot in the rotation next year.
  11. Maybe stop playing musical chairs with the defense and players can get comfortable and field their positions better.
  12. Yes he will be a gold glover by the end of the week after playing all of 2 games at 1B.
  13. Taj doesn't even know where his pitches are going, so I am not sure if he is tipping his pitches it would be helpful.
  14. We got a bullpen game tomorrow, Bradley needs to give them at six tonight. If he can't figure out where his pitches are going, it will be tough.
  15. Again, two strikes, you protect the plate, the pitch was not that far outside. And he has been letting more of those low and outside pitches go since his call up. We need more production from him, but I am seeing changes and being honest about it.
  16. He had two strikes on him and he was protecting the plate. He was not looking to pull the ball. Don't let facts get in the way of your narrative.
  17. If only we had another option for SS, but I guess Gray is the best option we have in the organization.
  18. He is not moving around nearly as much as he was, he is much more stable then his previous stint before going down. He actually went with the pitch which he hasn't been doing.
  19. This lineup tonight, we have three players, Gray, Clemens and Bell that we have options in St. Paul to replace. We are 7 games under .500 playing these three who have no future with the team except for maybe Clemens in a reserve role at best. Time to make the changes and see what you have for next year, so you know what holes need to be filled. And yes there will be baseball again at some point after this season, whenever that is it would be nice to know what direction we need to go rather than treading water.
  20. After seeing today's lineup, get what you can for him. That way they will quit forcing him in the lineup and maybe we could get somebody up that has more upside and more of a chance to be part of the future.
  21. The comments are more about the front office and the decision makers. I am not seeing a derogatory comment about the pitcher himself. If I am missing something, please tell me. The front office, meaning Zoll deserve all the criticism they get and it is part of the job.
  22. A team full of utility players and with at least a quarter of the players only worthy of being the 26th man on most teams is not a contending team. One series is not going to change that. Just because they are deluding themselves into thinking they are doesn't make it so.
