  1. I hope Rickey Castro gets a shot with the Twins this year. He's one of my favorites.
  2. Jamie, Your articles are informative and very detailed. While it is difficult to predict the future, that is the task which the MLB draft requires. It is true that history does repeat itself. Some of the variables which exist in deciding which player to select are predictable and some are just plain luck (injuries, illnesses, girlfriends, life challenges outside of baseball). It's almost like being in combat. Sometimes the best soldiers do not survive due to no fault of their own.
  3. Great posts and great discussions of the options here. Thanks to everyone who posted.
  4. Glad to see reliever Ricky Castro getting to start against Louisville for the Saints today. I guess it will be a game of relief pitchers or he is working as an opener for the Saints today. Castro is one of my favorites. He reached out to my 19 year old grandson during my grandson's torn labrum surgery and rehab. Jacob Benbow is a lefthanded pitcher for his college team. Castro told me he would be praying for my grandson and then he communicated with my grandson. Castro is a class act. I am really pulling for Ricky Castro to make it to the majors soon.
  5. You have focused on the two most exciting prospects in the Twins organization. I like the way you think.
  6. All 3 of these promotions were well deserved. Let's see how quickly Houston adjusts to AA pitching. He is a baseball player.
  7. The Joe Ryan Experience is unique. He is so animated in a good way. He smiles on the mound. He talks to himself a lot. He does need to avoid shouting a specific expletive while pitching, due to the thousands of kids who will want to be like Joe and many of us older folks find it offensive. I'll get off my soapbox and go take my pre-game nap now in preparation for tonight's game against Dem Bums, formerly from Brooklyn.
  8. Mai. Thanks for your great post. The old saying that you can't have too much pitching is very true. I enjoy watching good pitchers more than I enjoy watching home runs and power hitting. Pitching is such a mental game. That is my favorite part. Just throw the ball over the plate , mix your pitches up by location, movement, speed plus the individual batter's weaknesses. So many choices that good pitchers have. I really enjoy a 1 to 0 , nine inning game. I hope to read more of your comments Mai. I especially would welcome your observations about Asian baseball.
  9. I feel sorry for Lawrence. He probably has a family and his baseball career is probably over in ignominious fashion.
  10. My headline to respond to your post is: "Is Betteridge's Law of Headlines valid?" Therefore if this law of headlines is true, than the answer is "No, Betteridges' theory is not true", thereby disproving the truth of the theory. Think about it.
  11. Cabrera had an impressive major league debut. 24 years old. Jackson and Caratini have been above average lately, but the Twins will win more games if Jeffers is available soon. But I do see the wisdom in trading Jeffers at the trade deadline, unless the Twins are above .500 and definitely in the wildcard race or leading the AL Central at the trade deadline. I will miss Jeffers. He has been a joy to watch mature and improve and develop as a catcher, a hitter and a leader. I would like the Twins to try to extend him now.
  12. I voted for Houston to be #1. Because: 1) He is the best infielder defensively in the Twins system, including all the minors and the major league players. 2) He plays the position which is usually ranked the most valuable fielding position. His defense should count for more than it does in this ranking. 3) In addition, now we see he can hit and steal bases too. I am so ready for Houston to start playing SS for the Minnesota Twins.
  13. White Sox already have Teel at catcher, so I don't think they will chse Lackey. The White Sox think they are ready to compete and Cholowsky will probably reach the majors before Emerson or Lackey. It is possible the White Sox take Flora, due to the success this year of their young infielders. I really want the Twins to draft Lackey, due to the perennial positional need of the Twins at catcher. The Twins have Lee, Houston, Culpepper, Keaschall, and possibly Lewis (a huge enigma ???), all (not maybe Houston until 2028) will be major league ready for the 4 infield positions in 2027. All are young and have more upside available, though Lewis is getting long in the tooth, he still seems young to me. Emerson is just too far away from the majors for the Rays, who are competing well in the AL East this season. I'm predicting the Rays pick Lackey because the Rays have no catchers in the majors who are impressive and their top catching prospect is in A+ ball at age 19. I wonder where Georgia catcher, Daniel Jackson will be drafted? 25 HR, 25 stolen bases, national college player of the year ahead of Lackey and Cholowsky. Jackson has great offensive numbers. The Twins could sure use Lackey or Jackson. But I predict that the Twins will be left to chose either Emerson or Flora. If that is the case, I recommend Flora. The Twins can always use another top of the line pitcher. Flora seems to be the best available in this year's draft. I'm just not that high on a drafting a high school shortstop. Bobby Witt, Jr. is a once in a decade draft pick. Don't get too enamored with finding the next Witt, Jr. any time soon. We've done that several times before recently and it didn't turn out as well as we had hoped.
  14. By keeping Jeffers the Twins get a better chance of winning the AL Central this year. That is not "nothing".
  15. I love this post Greg. Truly needs to be given a check plus a smiley face. I agree about Shelton.
