  1. I like this article and agree with the idea.
  2. I would say they decided Cron is a better option(and I agree) and Austin is a candidate as a bench bat against LH pitching. I wouldn't arrange any offseason upgrades around him as it seems like some suggest.
  3. I would bet on the side of Cruz significantly out producing that platoon while setting the bar for players to learn from. I contend that the intangible benefit vastly out values the platoon as well.
  4. Take the elite bat and ask questions later. Put him out in front of your young core to chase, emulate and learn from. Clearly it is needed. Coaching the kids up is only part of it. They need to see how a thoroughbred hitter goes about his business on a day to day basis.
  5. An evolution in catchers head protection that goes well beyond the current state seems past due.
  6. Enjoyed this article. Stewart has a place on this team IMHO and you seem to have nailed it.
  7. Trade Kepler. Sign McCutcheon. Kepler, I'm not bullish on a breakout.
  8. Makes sense provided we got something of value back. If not, it's just a give away.
  9. The utility infielder should be the next best infielder you can get on your roster through paying him. Not just a marginal major leaguer that you settle for because he's not good enough to be a starter. That's building a deep versatile roster with flexability to line up against RH/LH offensive splits. It's a valid idea that jkcarew has.
  10. So you're sayin it doesn' actually defy reality. Interesting.
  11. "Out of touch with reality" is rude, insulting and unnecessary.
  12. Too much harshness shown to jkcarew. I understand his/her reasoning and it has validity.
  13. Here is the way I would construct the non-pitching portion of the roster. It's the batting order I would begin with too. Included are the positional free agents I would like. LeMahieu 2B R Rosario LF L McCutcheon RF R Cron 1B R Polanco SS SW Astidillo DH and utility guy R Sano 3B R Castro C L Buxton CF R Bench: Garver RH Cave LH Adrianza SW Kepler, Austin traded Thanks for reading. This was fun.
  14. Rosario, a former middle infielder = primary first baseman with offensive numbers that more closely profile what you would hope to get from that position. Thoughts? May remains in the pen. Romero to long reliever who graduates to the rotation. Willians, love him. Kepler, average in my mind. Stays in OF but don't cement him as a starter yet. Irresponsible to go in to the season banking on Buxton and Sano as legit starters. Those are my thoughts FWIW.
  15. If we go in to 2019 "counting on" Sano for anything it would seem irresponsible to me. I would plan as if he were not a factor and enjoy it as a bonus if he is productive and healthy. That being said, I feel it is important to sign a bat that is elite for this lineup.
  16. I hope that the lady that made the accusation is ok and dealing with the original incident as well as the ruling ok. This ruling does not mean it didn't happen. I feel bad for her. She needs to know that people believe in her and understand.
  17. If MLB is serious about creating a landscape void of real or perceived windows of opportunity, a weekly testing would be implemented. Also, they have the financial resources to test biweekly in the offseason. Anything less is smoke and mirrors.
  18. Does anyone know specifically what the frequency of drug testing is in MLB?
  19. Escobar starts at short over Adrianza and it's not even a question in my opinion. I see no reason for this to presented as Adrianza's "big chance." Esco is a good ball player. Underrated in my opinion. But, I respect the opinions of those who do not agree. For me, Adrianza is a fringe major leaguer.
  20. Start Escobar at ss. IMHO he should be a starter somewhere anyway. The excuse Polanco uses for positive test results is a canned excuse used by a lot of guilty players. Everyone knows it's total bull. Even if it were a so called "mistake" the player is no less guilty.
  21. His defense at first base has become excellent. If there's enough run production in the lineup, it would be tough to pull the plug on that. Especially if he hits similar to last year.
  22. Kudos to those who said to give this new management team time to evaluate and settle in.
  23. We need another starter. Too many question marks on staff at the moment. I have zero faith in Gibson, Berrios and co.
