  1. Ah, i found where to ask after the little brown jug. Do we got a chance? Are we really ranked? I shoulda paid more attention.
  2. Happens every 30 years or so. '91 North Stars and all. (Too lazy to do the math as far as if that is in line with random results for some model or other. Also too lazy to quote something apt from the opening dialogue of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.)
  3. I'll take the blame for this one. If i hadn't said anything about hoping to see the continued Atlanta pitching earlier in this thread, the universe wouldn'ta known how to disappoint me.
  4. Not enough analysis in this article for me to take it seriously. 100,000 debates? What was the distrubution of results? If simple numberical manipulations reveal interesting results in even 30% of the debates, it is a useful tool. If it carries the debate in more than 70%, that's it, I'll find something better to think about.
  5. I think am kind rooting for Atlanta, just 'cause of the dominant pitching. And a little bit 'cause i like biggentleben's contributions here.
  6. I am fine with the decision to go for it too... But then, I am used to losing. Still, I know it is a fine distinction, I prefer to play to win rather than just not to lose, even if the latter is safer.
  7. Liam Hendriks gets the win in relief to keep the A's alive in the series. And closes it out, as expected.
  8. Some pitcher we faced recently was named Luis Castillo. That confused me a bit. Pretty sure they got knocked out, seeing as all central teams are gone. With so many balls leaving the park between A's and Astros, maybe Twins would have been better served playing the first series on the west coast...
  9. Hey! We beat Houston. Does that mean they didn't sweep us?
  10. I do hope we beat Houston... Even if it means going 1-15.
  11. But we won a game 163... Next year let's just play into the 170s.
  12. Well, at least they don't mess about. Hope to see ya all next spring!
  13. I was just happy to see him at the plate.
  14. Only "mostly dead"... "Hello in there! Whatcha got that's worth hitting for?"
  15. Just imagine what we could do with a 5th catcher!
  16. Note to self: Switch the calendar at the end of the month.
  17. Stiff upper lip and all. I don't suppose we can make up for it by winning 17 in a row now, can we?
  18. At least we aren't over reacting to over reactions...
  19. Meh. If the game can hinge on such a simple play as the put out missed by Polanco/Arraez, it could also just as easily be my fault for not putting up the original game thread intro in a more timely um... time. Besides, i live a ho-hum life. I like livin' on the edge. Taking the safety net of being able to lose a game away right from the start makes it simpler, doesn't it? Like being a base runner with 2 out. Doesn't matter where it goes in the outfield, you are running. I also like lost causes, being the only ones worth fighting for. We got us an uphill battle now!
  20. Well... 17. Right up there with 56.
