  1. I think Duffy gets sent down and remains a starter. You know someone will have arm issues by May, so I think they keep Duffy and Berrios waiting in the wings as starters.
  2. Well, Ricky was throwing against mostly minor league guys as the big boys were in Cuba, but my guess is that he makes the club as a starter along with Milone. They can send Duffy down to work out some kinks and not risk losing him. Tonkin to the bp as he is out of options. No point risking him. And Presley makes it in the bp as well. There's my Carnac the Great moment.
  3. Very valid points. Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those guys that has been calling for Kepler for the last year. He's raw. On the flip side, Santana really crumbled when criticized in the media last year. There were articles written about his bruised psyche and how it affected his game. That worries me about him. Hopefully, he can ignore all that and just play.
  4. Ugh...I know Santana is out of options, and I know the ST sample size is pretty small, but what about him makes the Twins want to bring him up north? I can't say that CQ or Sweeney have really set themselves apart from Arcia or Santana, but once again, a pretty small sample size. Honestly, I feel like I'm looking a the current presidential candidates and searching for the box labeled "None of the Above". I don't think Santana is a viable option for pinch hitting but he is for pinch running. Arcia offers some pop in his bat off the bench. So, I guess I'd take him and maybe Kepler up north if you put a gun to my head. I know, I know, Kepler has options, but if I'm looking for the strongest team, I take Kepler north over Santana because he offers a better stick and decent speed. I think Santana will slide down thru the waiver wire. CQ, Sweeney...don't care. Didn't really like the signings in the first place because I don't see them in the Twins future at all.
  5. I'm becoming cautiously optimistic about Park. It is ST, but he's not looking overwhelmed. Granted, probably seeing a lot of fastballs at this point. If we put Park behind Sano and then Plouffe behind Park, that seems pretty solid.
  6. What about the possibility of starting out with Nolasco in the rotation over Berrios and Duffy strictly for the purpose of showcasing him in order to trade him? Once we are into June, trade him and bring up Berrios or move Duffy/May from the BP into the rotation. Let's face it. No one is going to give us a bag of salted nuts for him now (unsalted maybe). Roll the dice and showcase Nolasco. If he performs well, trade him. If not, demote him.
  7. I could see us being able to trade Ricky, but we'll probably have to pick up half of the salary. There are plenty of teams out there that will be willing to pay $12.5 for two years for an experienced starter. At this point, I'd take it if I were the Twins. A chance to recoup half of a bad contract for the next 2 years for a guy that really doesn't fit? Take it.
  8. All good questions and I'm guessing that the answers lie in what's going on down on the farm. Let's say that Kepler or someone else is tearing it up in the minors. If Plouffe would go down, rather than bringing up an infielder or settling for Nunez, maybe we are willing to put the big fella at 3rd and improve our OF by inserting Kepler or someone else. We're going to have to have some flexibility and Molly's smart enough to know that.
  9. Yeah, that's right. I remember now...it's been a year! Can't wait for a televised game to see how he looks at the plate. Hey, if your gonna look bad, make it on a non televised day.
  10. Not just 3 K's, 6 LOB's with it. Ouch!
  11. Am I reading that right? Has he gone down on 3 pitches in each at bat? I mean, I don't want to start screaming bust yet, but that's not good.
  12. Days off can be solved with Nunez. Injuries...ugh. If it's a 15 day DL, filling in with Nunez is probably the right call rather than moving Sano in from the OF. I'm guessing that Molly would backtrack if there was a season ending injury.
  13. Correct, but it wouldn't make sense to trade Plouffe and downgrade our defense at 3rd for an average OF that hits the same # of dingers.
  14. Here's my take/spin on Sano in the OF. It's about winning now. I think we can all agree that defensively, Plouffe is stronger at 3rd. Not that Sano can't get there, but right now, Plouffe is the stronger defender. Trade Plouffe? Only if your going to get an OF that hits 25 dingers and plays great D. I don't see that happening. I think we can all agree that Sano's bat needs to be in the lineup. Right or wrong, Joe will be the 1B. It is what it is. Park was not signed to ride the pine. He will be the DH until he proves that he can't. So, where does that leave Sano? The outfield...unless Park fails. Right now, there is only one spot for Sano.
  15. Yeah, Park really is the X factor isn't he. We know that Buxton's speed can be game changing. The rest of the guys, we pretty much know what we have (even Murphy), but Park and even Arcia are unknowns. I wish I could predict what Arcia is going to bring this year and he's one that I'll be watching in ST closely.
  16. I think you need to have the ability to sacrifice when called on. The speed minimizes the opportunity for a DP so that you can get your guys that can put it out of the park up more and preferably with someone on base.
  17. In my perfect world... Buxton leads off - might happen by year end, might not. Rosario - would have to have a better contact rate and be more selective at the plate Dozier Sano Park - IF he can hit ML pitching Mauer - still has a good obp Plouffe Whatever catcher we have in Esco - could be switched with Rosario if Rosario can't gain discipline The reason I put Esco last is because I'd hate to have Buxton run up the back of either catcher and leave spike marks.
  18. It's not only that, but ideally you'd like your top 2 guys to have speed. Joe's not that guy.
  19. I was good with everything except the "Mauer is the perfect 2 hitter" comment. I think Joe hits into a ton of DP's and I don't recall him laying down any bunts to advance the runner.
  20. I view baseball projections kind of like all star wrestling...purely entertainment. Think about how many injuries occur during the season. No way to project that and then think about how many guys have stuff that is nagging and they try to play thru it only to see their performance suffer. Project all you want boys but the beauty of baseball is the unpredictability of it. One of my favorite lines from Bull Durham - "Know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. 25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points, okay? There's 6 months in a season, that's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week - just one - a gorp... you get a groundball, you get a groundball with eyes... you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week... and you're in Yankee Stadium." -- Crash Davis
  21. I still scratch my head about how Bartlett and Kubel came out of ST as better options than the guys in the minors. Especially Bartlett. Kubel at least had a decent ST, whereas Bartlett had a terrible ST. If your argument is that the Twins stick with aged veterans over young guys, that is the most glaring example I can recall.
  22. Just once...just ONE TIME...I want a player to say "I didn't do squat this offseason. I adopted the John Kruk workout plan and I am in the worst shape I've ever been in...but the beer tasted great!" John Kruk was the man!
  23. Yeah, I think it's worth a flyer, but I don't see it as anything more than that. I agree that it's not likely to pan out.
