  1. We have pitched scared...trying to make the perfect pitch. That plays into their strength which is a patient approach at the plate. Meanwhile, they have taken away our strength of hitting fastballs in fastball counts over the fence by throwing off speed pitches to get ahead, a fastball or two out of the strike zone to set up another off speed pitch to finish us off. If we don't adapt, we are done.
  2. Well, you could argue that our ace is out due to an untimely urine sample. That pretty much sealed our fate. MLB wants the Yankees in the playoffs...it's about money. I doubt they will get that untimely urine sample that takes their ace out of the playoffs.
  3. You're giving up? Look, the Yankees did what they should do at home. They won. The Gregorias slam is a routine out at Target field. This series isn't over.
  4. They obviously scouted us well. They saw that we hit fastballs and are not using fastballs as a pitch to establish and then get them out with a junk pitch. Rather, they are using the fastball as a show me pitch to keep us honest (I'd be shocked if they threw more than 25 percent this game). They are using off speed junk even in fastball counts and they are throwing them for strikes. Years ago, Kenny Rogers beat the Yankees in Detroit by doing the same thing and the Yankees didn't adapt and looked silly against a pitcher that could barely break a pane of glass. They have done the same thing to us.
  5. and just like that Sano strikes out on 2 fastballs obviously looking for breaking balls.
  6. Oh, one more thing...they aren't gonna throw us fastballs. We hit them. They are going to throw us all kinds of garbage pitches...even in a fastball count. Adapt.
  7. A couple of notes. I thought before last night that I wanted Schoop at 2nd for a couple of reasons. First, rookie jitters. Second, injury. I still think it was a bad decision even though the rookie got a big hit. The positive is that it is a good learning experience for our future 2nd baseman. The ump last night and the ump tonight are not giving corners...and sometimes not even more than a corner. The plate is tight, the Yankees know it and they are waiting for the meat. We, on the other hand, have not been patient at the plate. Last, I think Smoltz is spot on when he says we have to look for small victories for the rest of this game and we aren't going to get small victories when we give up....and it looks to me like we have.
  8. I agree that Schoop Doggy Dog will play well in the playoffs. Schoop's arm when turning the DP is stronger than anyone else's as well. Here's the part about having so many questionable guys on the roster...it also affects the bullpen and I think Rocco would like to go with a bigger bullpen. However, if he does that, he cuts down on his options in the field and if those unhealed injuries come back to bite them, they need people off the bench....enter La Tortuga. The most versatile guy on the team. Putting him on the roster gives Rocco a little more bullpen flexibility.
  9. A couple of things. I want the Yankees knocked out as much as anybody, but let's face it. When the Yankees our knocked out, the viewing audience goes down. As much as I want the Yankees out, MLB doesn't and that counts for something....just sayin! Second, I'm glad the Twins are the highest home run hitting team in the history of the game. I think the Yankees HR numbers are inflated by the ball park just like an Oakland pitchers can be skewed by a ton of foul territory. All those foul balls that just make it into the seats are in play at Oakland and plenty of routine outs make it into the seats at Yankee stadium. We earned out dingers!
  10. Yankees with 4 homers so far...if it were any other team...well, not the White Sox.
  11. I'm thinking he scored points with Audra Martin though.
  12. 3 k's for Herrera. That's gotta suck the life out of the Tribe. Odds of a wildcard are fading as well.
  13. Will it be today or will it be tomorrow? Nice job by Dobnak. Detroit is weak but he did what he should.
  14. Those pesky Indians won't give an inch. They are fighting for that wildcard spot...cause they ain't winning the division.
  15. Anyone else think Sano looks trimmer than earlier in the year?
  16. I think at this point you go with smeltzer or dobnak in the playoffs over Perez and Gibson.
  17. OK...feeling good...up 6-0...6-2...6-4...6-5...upset stomach...want to throw something at the TV.
  18. Wally...Trevor...it's so easy to forget him.
  19. Remember the world series game when we got just crushed by Atlanta? 14-4 or something like that. The world did not end and we all know how that turned out. Getting clobbered can wake a team up.
  20. 99.9 percent...oh you mean pitching...I was thinking just staying on the team.
  21. Alcala....nerves? Wally...not sniffing the post season roster....or any other roster. Magic number now 4.
  22. This is going to sting a lot more if we get a couple of runs in the 9th. Wally...yeah...get the fork.
