In years past, we would have rolled over. We didn't, and they didn't. I feel like these two teams are evenly matched based on the sum of the games played so far this year.

We all know who won that game. That was strike 3 in the eight against any other team.

Article: Series Preview: Bronx Bombers Come Knocking
gocgo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Curious what Trevor May's role will be going forward. Pretty tough to trust him at the moment, but it should make it clear to the FO that the need to bolster the bullpen is even greater now. -
Article: Series Preview: Bronx Bombers Come Knocking

I'm curious how many right field warning track balls will be hit by the Bombers being used to the short right field fence. -
I would like to point out that the strikeout pitch to Encarnacion (whatever his name is...the chicken wing guy) was framed nicely while bringing it back into the zone for the umpire.

Article: Where's the Weakness?
gocgo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point in the season, you can start comparing our stats to other teams as many of them have played the same teams. Although sometimes it isn't so much who you play as much as when you play them. As much as I love this team, Houston is still the best team in baseball at this point in the season based on stats, but we are in the mix and we all know that the season is long and injuries happen. We need to pad our lead in the Central, let other teams sell off, pick up another bullpen guy or starter if someone goes down, and then finish strong. Playoffs are playoffs...anything can happen.- 39 replies

I think one of the best things about this year is that we are still flying under the radar. We have a 3 game lead which is the largest in the majors (granted 3 games is nothing), we are 9 games above .500, and we have a better record than Houston...and no one is talking about us. Cleveland gets press...apparently, the writers think they just need to get healthy and then the division is theirs. Meanwhile, we have what I think is the best OF in the majors. Polanco is tearing it up. Pitching staff looks great. Bullpen is pretty solid. Defense is pretty solid...oh yeah, and we are knocking the cover off the ball....shhhhh! Let's keep sneaking up on them for the ambush.

Article: How Will Sano’s Return Impact the Roster?
gocgo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Marwin had 2 putouts from left field in one game againt the Yankees. I think he can serve as 4th OF, so I see Cave being sent down first. Who's next? Well, with the staff pitching pretty well, I think 13 in the pen is probably not necessary.- 116 replies

Article: NYY 4, MIN 1: Twins Fizzle, Bronx Drizzles
gocgo replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it was Schoop that didn't come close to swinging and got rung up without an appeal. Shortly after that our catcher appealed to first on a check swing and didn't get the call. That got me thinking - I would like to see is the percentage of successful appeals for visitors at Yankee Stadium vs. other stadiums. I hate Yankee games...they are practically unbearable to watch...every count seems to go to 3-2. I can watch about 4 innings before I get bored and fall asleep. The games just drag on. -
Article: On Slaying Stupid Dynasties
gocgo replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
“If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. For a couple of years, [the Astros] have been the best, but we believe we’re the best now,” said second baseman Jonathan Schoop. At first, I thought that was a little too cocky...it's early. But then I thought that swagger is exactly what the Twins have been missing. I think we need that attitude no matter who we play. -
Article: MIN 6, HOU 2: MARTIN! MARTIN! MARTIN!
gocgo replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I watched the end of the game last night on ESPN. It seemed to me that the announcers were somewhat surprised by the Twins...as if they expected a Houston win with doubts about the Twins and then came away thinking that the Twins are a pleasant surprise and are solid enough to contend. I'm curious if anyone else had a take from the broadcast?- 51 replies

It's April 11. It's cold. Pitching a baseball is not easy...especially for anyone who didn't grow up in cold weather. Anyone wanting to get rid of any pitchers this early, doesn't know squat about pitching or cold weather or anything else that I care about.- 96 replies

Article: Week in Review: Road Warriors
gocgo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When Sano is ready, it really presents and interesting situation for the Twins. I imagine they will get creative and someone will head to the IL...you know the drill. But do you trust Sano to stay healthy? Need to keep someone on staff to handle 3rd base if he stubs his toe. Longer term, Gonzalez was brought in as the utility guy, not Astudillo. I think this will really be the first big test of our young managers career assuming he is part of the decision. Keep the veteran over the young guy even if the young guy continues to perform? And how does that affect team chemistry? I don't know what Sano's timeframe is but Gonzalez needs to be performing up to a higher level when that day comes. Should be interesting.- 40 replies

Article: Byron Buxton: Reckless or Aggressive?
gocgo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pool noodles! I like it! So think of the adventure in the outfield of playing one off the wall when there are pool noodles every 6 inches...or a even a foot. Dang! This is a game changing idea! Inside the park homers would abound! Scoring would go up! No, you can't just stand and watch your fellow outfielder play it off the wall....the ball might be coming your way! I love this idea. Protect the outfielders and add adventure to the game.- 58 replies

Article: Week in Review: A Grand Finale?
gocgo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great write up as always. I concur on the Joe Mauer comments. I gotta admit, my interest in the Twins has fallen off the map. I haven't watched more that a couple innings since August 1st. I feel like a bandwagon fan, but they just fell off my radar of things to do. I'm hoping to watch Dozier in the playoffs, but won't be heartbroken if that doesn't happen either. I know it's early, but I'm starting to think that our new front office is floundering around a bit. Perhaps searching for answers rather than having the answers. Am I the only one that is beginning to have doubts? -
Article: CHW 7, MIN 3: Sox Get to Gibby
gocgo replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are some really basic fielding blunders that have been happening lately. I think it's a sign that the Twins have mentally checked out in this long and fruitless season. We had a guy picked off a couple of nights ago and Joe Mauer ran him most of the way to 2B before tossing it to nobody. The picked off runner advanced to 2B. When my son was about 10, he played on a traveling baseball team. One of the things the coach stressed was that when you have a base runner in a rundown, get the ball to the leading base first. If you are chasing the runner, make sure you are chasing him back to the trailing base. Second thing was don't fake a throw. Hold the ball high in your throwing hand and don't fake the throw because it doesn't fake out the runner, it fakes out your own players. It was solid coaching and 10 year old kids practiced it. How does a player like Joe Mauer not know this? The Garver play was just another example. As I watched two runners converging on the same bag, I'm screaming to throw it. We could have had 2 outs and made the Sox look like the ones that didn't know what they were doing.- 35 replies

Article: What To Do With Logan Forsythe?
gocgo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wasn't a fan of the Forsythe part of the deal, but glad he is on a hot streak for us. That said, if you are throwing in the towel on the season, then it kind of makes sense to have a younger guy playing there to evaluate. It seems that by playing Forsythe, we are actually evaluating him. If that's the case and they don't think that Gordon or anyone else is close, then evaluate for the entire year and then make the decision based on what he looks like for the rest of the year. There are a number of free agent 2B's at the end of the year that will be available.- 100 replies

Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
gocgo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whose closing? Who cares? We're all used to late inning heartbreak at this point. -
Great article and I do like the "prospects" that we got back. I'm not wild about getting guys that are 30+ years old and plugging them in to the MLB lineup. If we have (and we have) given up on the season, then doesn't it make more sense to see what some of the younger guys can do? I'm hoping to see some of them in September. Perhaps there are service time considerations, but I'm not sure we are in a position where that should be a priority. The three players listed represent what one can do if given the opportunity. How many guys in our minor league system just need that opportunity?

Pretty predictable ending. For the life of me, I don't know why we had Hildy pitch to Lindor. Lindor hit a Hildy change up a mile the previous night so this time he was waiting on a changeup again and got it. I think the issue with Hildy is that he really only has 2 pitches so batters either sit on the fastball or, as Cleveland has been doing, on the the changeup. He throws from a variety of angles, but for a 77 mph changeup, it really doesn't matter what the arm angle is as the players have time to pick it up. I like coming over the top occasionally with the fastball, but not the changeup. I turned the channel before the Lindor home run even landed.
