  1. Best of luck to Stewart. I guess there is no time better than the present to give him a shot. Hopefully, he can show why he was drafted so high. That would be better than adding to the reminder that Stewart/Gordon/Jay could have been Manaea/Nola/Benintendi.
  2. They can get lazy though. Jim Callis literally wrote that Gordon is playing well on August 2nd. When I see stuff like that, I tend to lean more toward the sentiment that draft position or bonus money create bias in the rankings.
  3. You make an excellent point and the numbers show it. Kepler's been at a 16-17 LD%, while Bregman and Benintendi are 22-23%. Kepler did have a 22-23% rate in his monster A+/AA season of 2015. Yes, it's an outlier, but he was pretty young and likely physically immature player in the seasons prior to that. He's made the adjustment against LHP at the big league level, so I'm hopeful that he can adjust again to drive the ball more. He's been slower to develop at the big league level, but we have been able to see a player that is maturing year over year. I wouldn't bet on him getting to perennial outputs of Bregman and Benintendi, but if it happened, I wouldn't be that surprised either.
  4. He had one good game and some walks. He was gifted a TD Hitter of the Day Award when there were at least 3-4 more deserving candidates. For August: .161/.257/.161/.418 11.4% BB-Rate 22.8% K-Rate Solid BB-Rate, but otherwise yuck Meanwhile, Arraez is right on Gordon's tailgate at AA For August: .434/.480/.478/.958 8% BB-Rate 0% K-Rate Let's watch that sample size over the rest of the month for these two players. My money would be on Arraez passing Gordon on the prospect board sans bias. For some, I think he already has.
  5. Great article. May it rain four-leaf clovers on Max next season. If there is such thing as a luck account, might as well credit the rest of the season. Go big on debits next season.
  6. All on Molitor ... Should have had Moya ready for Lindor after Hildy gave up his first runner
  7. Self-inflicted foot-shot wounds ... Gotta love 'em
  8. If you want an immune-compromised person to get better, would you inject them with cancerous lymphocytes?
  9. I wouldn't add anyone to the 40 that doesn't need it. If Rooker continues to rake through August, send him to the AFL. If he destroys that, put him in AAA at the beginning of the year and then call him up after a few weeks, if he shows that he is the best bet going forward. I'd for sure get Romero back up, especially if Mejia is going to need any time on the DL. Come September, if Santana is still around, keep Berrios and Gibson on their regular pattern and then rotate Santana, Odorizzi, Romero and Mejia. Give Gonsalves that double header start at the end of September. If Santana can be moved after clearing waivers, then give Gonsalves his spot and let Littell pitch in the double-header.
  10. Speaking of Burdi .... Looks like he started his rehab assignment, but he hasn't pitched since July 31st .... Makes me wonder if he's injured again .... Otherwise, he should be back on the Pirates in a few days and will have to be hidden by a team that just traded for Archer to stay in the hunt
  11. I'd take Eddie Rosario, and the numbers show why. AVG and OPS are very close. The biggest differences are Mauer being the heavy favorite in OBP and Eddie being the heavy favorite in SLG. Eddie is ready to hit the crap out of the ball and make something happen. Joe is perfectly content to take the walk and leave it up to the next guy. Joe's approach isn't necessarily wrong, because there is now additional pressure on the pitcher. But, that approach certainly is what makes people think he isn't a good hitter in the clutch. With Eddie hitting after Joe, it's a good combo right now. The rest of the lineup needs to fall in place though.
  12. Looking into the numbers a little, Larnach (30%) and Jeffers (40%) were hitting line drives a lot more than Williams (20%) is. Williams seems to be an extreme fly ball hitter with power. He has the 22% HR/FB rate, but he also pops-up 33% of the time. I'm also surprised that he hasn't moved, but that's my best attempt to understand why (with numbers). Rodriguez and Cabbage are already taking a good share of those 1B PAs and don't seem like move down candidates, so there is a player numbers issue as well. I'm sure they want Williams playing every day with the short season. Maybe, it's just what happens when you add 11 players to the system at the deadline.
  13. In the current situation, a player who has been producing the way he has should be getting one of the longest looks. I was surprised he still hasn't had 300 MLB PAs. At least give him DH against LHP the rest of the year (of course, Austin may have a say in that come September)
  14. Inclined to look at the 211 PAs in LA to get a better idea of what's coming than the 20 PAs with the Twins so far. We're talking about a 31 yo who wall-scraped over an 800 OPS once in his career and then got paid for it. No problem having him place hold the rest of the season, although I'd personally rather see Adrianza out there every day. But, with Ehire being the more versatile, switch-hitting, speedy type, he does make more sense coming off the bench. Glad LoFo had a good night, but leaving it at that.
  15. He's going for Russo's record. Let's not make it more difficult.
  16. Admiral Poopooer Tapthebrakes only exists to offset Lloyd Christmas.
  17. It seems some are using player development and clubhouse chemistry almost interchangeably in some of these replies. I'm sure one can effect the other and vice versa. The two circles may even overlap a bit. However, they aren't the same thing.
  18. Great article, Seth. You put together a great comparison piece with lots of options for expectations that, I'm sure, was meant to generate some positive yet tempered excitement surrounding a top Twins prospect. I just hope the general feeling on the board can stay positive and tempered, instead of taking a hard left into fantasyland. Once you enter fantasyland, there seems to be no return. Then the pitfalls start hurting feelings and crushing expectations. The end result ends up being a season long general bashing of a once popular fantasy super hero. See Miguel Sano. He can't even strikeout once in a game without someone spinning it as a failure.
  19. 98 PAs, dude. Or, is that kind of like when Chris Parmelee mastered the MLB level in 2011?
  20. So lots of hope and squinting was needed to picture 2017 Platinum Glove Winner Byron Buxton being a young performer when he put up a 944 OPS with double-digit everything in 2013. I remember the fanfare being pretty much the same. Sure there is excitement, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.
  21. This! .... With the provision that his K-Rate continues to trend in the current direction ... 24+% in July and starting August at 22+% .... It would awesome if he ended August under 20%, and that could get him a cup of coffee .... Beating July certainly should start him in AAA for 2019 .... I would expect a dip in April due to more off-speed and benders, and that will be the real test on his ability to continue adjusting and fast tracking to the big club
