  1. Hellickson on a 1-yr make good after signing someone like Cobb, Lynn or maybe even Chatwood wouldn't be a bad idea. Santana will be another year older. Berrios may still have some bumps along the way, although I wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a true #1. Gibson needs to show that he can repeat that second half. Mejia still has options and is far from proven. Gonsalves has yet to make his debut. Question marks? Yes 2012 ... Marquis, De Vries, Walters, Deduno, (insert other 5+ FIP starter) territory? Absolutely not No need to use resources on any high-risk, injury-comeback, Rich Harden reclamation project. Twins already have that project with Phil Hughes @ $13+M. Just re-sign Dillon Gee, if any of those other 4 names are what it comes down to. He was a good long relief option and can make a spot start. I also agree with the post above that states the time to go after that ace is at the trade deadline.
  2. Not to mention Darvish doesn't look like he can handle the big stage, so why would you want him as your #1 (if you're planning on getting there)?
  3. I hope the AL and NL can be retained, but expansion to 32 teams sounds OK. Two square 16 team leagues would seem welcome for scheduling. ScottyB has a nice scheduling plan laid out above. Of course, I would like to see KC and the White Sox stick with the Twins, but I guess you can't have everything. I'm not sure what I would think of being in a division with both New York teams and the Red Sox.
  4. Best play by play call of the playoffs so far. Cubs/Nationals 10/12/2017
  5. I took that comment as meaning "outside the TD walls". We are lucky to have journalists and contributors like yourself and Tom (among many others) that keep us informed on the entire organization. I get called "Stat-man" by the company I keep for watching games, but most of the information that I get starts here.
  6. Probably leverage of situations and FIP Also, looking at the numbers, Hildenberger's BABIP was almost 100 points higher at .304 than Busenitz' .212 ... Pretty much opposites on the luck spectrum
  7. Watching the Yankees/Indians, Bruce appears to check swing on the Garcia pitch. Sanchez appeals. O'nora calls "no swing". Girardi barks. The TV review shows what should have been a swing call. Matt Vasgerian states "Let's hope we don't devolve to the point where a manager can challenge a check swing call." It made me consider where myself or others stand on that statement. Should it be "devolving" or "evolving"?
  8. Such a fun season! Colon's complete game, Pujol's #600, now this jack by Dozier and unbelievable catch by Buxton! Keep it coming!
  9. Best homer since Thome off Thorton!!
  10. I saw that Brian Dozier is one run away from scoring 100 runs for the 4th consecutive season. That would be the first time a Twins (or Senators) player has ever done that. There were a few three-in-a-rows, but never four in a row. It was interesting how some of the previous streaks were broken or didn't get to four: Chuck Knoblauch was traded to the Yankees after a 3 year streak, and he went on to get two more in a row with the Bombers. Heinie Manush was traded by the Saint Louis Browns to the Washington Senators after scoring 26 runs for the Browns. He scored 74 with the Senators and then added three more seasons in a row of 100 runs. He got the four year streak, but not all with the Senators. Sam Rice came up two runs short of extending his streak to four seasons in 1926. Goose Goslin came up four runs short in 1927. Buddy Lewis came up 13 runs short in 1939, but then he came back and scored 101 in 1940. Dozier has six games to get one run. Hopefully, it will come with a lead-off blast tonight in Cleveland!
  11. Moya was really fun to watch at the end, but I feel like he is going to get called for a balk at least once a game. That's a crap-ton of pre-pitch motion that he's got going!
  12. He should probably be getting ready to accept that role. Looking up and down the OPS numbers of starting catchers last year, few were lower than Suzuki. Most, if not all, of those won't be starting in 2016. Add on that he doesn't bring much strike zone or running game control to the table, and I don't see any starting jobs available for him. If Garver, Turner or Hicks don't look to be the part soon, I would keep him around as the backup on a year-by-year basis. The pitching staff likes him, and he will be a cheap cheerleader. Long term, I can wishfully think of Mientkiewicz managing and Zook as the bench coach.
  13. Sano might as well get used to that.
  14. Hughes seems sharp to start ... minimum faced and probably done
  15. Isn't it for depleting our Minn Kota batteries?
  16. At least nothing was lost in the pitch taking department with the Hicks/Murphy trade
  17. Having Edwin Encarnacion at AAA would be awesome
  18. Let's trade Kirby Puckett. We have Pedro Munoz tearing it up in Portland.
  19. Found the culprit .... Ervin, you need to discontinue use.
  20. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/minnesota-twins Ervin doping.
  21. If Pelf can win the setup role in spring training and turn into a Wade Davis, then the Twins would only be paying him $500K more than the ChiSox are paying Duke. That's the only somewhat twisted, slightly reasonable and rose-colored spin I can put on that contract at this point.
  22. SS Danny Santana - SS is wide open with Jeter retiring RHP Glen Perkins - He's one of the best at what he does in the AL, plus lefty ... Expect it to contiue I'll add ... Arcia gets selected for the HR Derby and then pulls a Cespedes and wins it without being an All-Star.
  23. Burdi's numbers are ridiculous. Even more so, if you take out that 4BB/4R/0IP debut. I hope a waiver trade or two can go through on someone like Burton, so then maybe Burdi gets a chance to make the 40-man and get a September taste. Heck, I'd even DFA Burton, if you can't find a suitor. This September seems like as good a time as any to let Burdi get rid of any MLB debut butterflies and see where his game is at the highest level.
