  1. I know it's only instagram, but it leaves a positive impression. It appears his game, keeping himself in top form for his game and his family/friends are what's important to him. Not Nuke Lalooshing around.
  2. I'm planning to go back to my old CR stomping grounds in early May to watch the Kernels. I hope Ober starts one of those games.
  3. The greed goes both ways. The owners do assume the risk, but the players are the draw for revenues for the most part. The fix, and others have stated this in other threads, is that players should be paid more earlier and then expect more reasonable contracts later in their careers. The owners look at Pujols, Miggy, Fielder, Crawford, et al. and now have enough data to realize those are stupid contracts. The players still want their piece of the pie, which they have every right to negotiate. The problem in arriving at "the fix" is that the union reps will have to be forward thinking. More Mookie Betts type arb salaries are a step in the right direction.
  4. I actually thought Rortvedt would be slightly higher. He almost tripled his games and PAs, then adjusted and improved at the plate while doing so. Being a secound round pick, the scouting department must have seen a lot they liked. At 19, he had at least one good showing that he has the make-up to handle adversity (slow start at the plate) and handle a pitching staff over a full season. It will be interesting to see if he's assigned to CR to build more confidence, or if that isn't a worry, and his make-up is further tested in the FSL.
  5. I would think Severino is an EST/Elizabethton assignment at 18/19 yo and just GCL exp so far.
  6. That's basically asking them to more than double their WAR as a group based on 2017 numbers. I'll take the under on the 673 Innings part of the calculation.
  7. Thanks, Seth. Good Read! Agree with mikelink45 on Camilo Pascual ... He also played at a time when they only gave out one Cy Young award and Sandy Koufax was on the Dodgers.
  8. Disclaimer: Bit of a fanboy commenting Or, you could resign Dozier and move some of those MI prospects for high-end controllable pitching
  9. July 1, 2018 is the qualifier date for this list. It's stated after the Gleeman list insert.
  10. I'm guessing compromise with a reason along the lines of "our 2018 marketing campaign is already well underway, and asking us to make a change this late in the game is going to affect us on the business side" ... That's all I can come up with ... It does become laughable, if applied to other situations (e.g. Can you imagine?"You can all continue hate crimes for the rest of the year. Get it out of your system. Then, you all need to stop doing that.")
  11. I can see your point of view with the misguided principles over a trivial mascot/logo, but I wouldn't use the middling Timberwolves as a comparison. Other than basically wasting Kevin Garnett's career, the team doesn't have much story. The Malik Sealy tragedy and Latrell Sprewell's starving kids are all I can come up with. Those logo changes were probably desperate attempts to get fans interested in something not so interesting. The Indians are storied, even if cursed. Timberwolves stories wouldn't sell out of the bargain bin at a used book store.
  12. From MLBTR: Brewers Designate Andrew Susac For Assignment By Steve Adams | January 30, 2018 at 2:42pm CDT The Brewers announced that they’ve designated catcher Andrew Susac for assignment today in order to clear a spot on the roster for righty Matt Albers, whose previously reported two-year deal with the team is now official. Age 27 and a once somewhat highly regarded prospect. The Brewers appear to be going for it, so they don't have room with Pina, Vogt and a couple other catchers on their 40-man. I feel the Twins are light on MLB ready catching depth. Susac could at least push Garver. A 40 man move would be necessary. With the number of bullpen additions, I think you just offer Kinley back to FLA or see if they'd swap Kinley for someone they may be high on that the Twins maybe feel is expendable.
  13. I was just trying to come up with a reason why someone would get all wrapped up in a mascot retirement. If they're constantly bombarded with this is offensive and that is offensive, they get worn down. They decide to take a stand, even though the timing lines up with a trivial mascot retirement.
  14. Not really ... The fans at any Indians game far outnumber the uniformed representatives ... After reading Twitter and watching news videos covering the change, it sounds like a lot of them plan to make it a point to don Chief Wahoo regularly
  15. Perhaps they're just tired of being members of the most whiney, thin-skinned, easily offended society in the history of the world ... The stupid mascot is just the straw, even if legitimately offensive
  16. Don't worry ... There will be 'collectors' with Chief Wahoo hats on the mantle next to the Sambo axel grease cans and Coon Chicken restaurant menus
  17. SMH ... So cliche
  18. FWIW ... https://www.dailynorseman.com/2010/6/27/1540257/what-does-skol-mean
  19. Having a chuckle reading some of the die-hards' comments on those various articles. "I've been expecting this, so I've been stocking up on Wahoo gear for years." Or,"I will continue to wear Wahoo, my children will wear Wahoo, and my grandchildren will wear Wahoo." I've never been much attached to logos and the like, so I'm possibly lacking perspective, but those just seem like unnecessary priorities.
  20. 4/$76M + 5th yr option @ $4M buyout Not my money ... Sign him up Make him an All-Time Twin and let us enjoy his game the whole way!
  21. Likely why the first list has three slow runners, an extremely small sample size and the closest number to 0 of all the data points ... Meanwhile the top four negatives are arguably the four fastest players on the team that have a reasonable amount of data to draw from
  22. I think the catcher should get at least one non-accumulating mound visit per inning that doesn't count towards the visits count. They need to be careful about messing with the pitcher/catcher communication. Signs can get crossed up. Language barriers sometimes exist. A visit from the catcher may end up preventing a dugout visit. Other than that, I don't have a problem with any of these rules. I also don't care if they don't change the rules. It's not a problem from my perspective. I do think many of the arguments from other perspectives are valid. I like the character races, and I usually root for the mosquito.
  23. Looks like the Twins will be ripe for playing games with the 10-day DL the way the Dodgers do ... Keep everyone fresh over the course of the season
  24. Thanks, Matt. Your effort to put this together is appreciated. Enjoyable reading.
  25. In support of a Buxton extension and without trying to respond individually anymore to those in the wait-and-see camp (very valid position), it should also be noted that despite the peaks and troughs (often extended) of his offensive game, Mr. Buxton has always "forgot-about-it" when he runs out to centerfield each half inning. That's not necessarily a measurable statistic, but it's a very desirable trait of professionalism in a multi-faceted game like baseball. As a mid-to-small market team, the Twins will need to get some competitive advantage by figuring out how to measure some of those immeasurables and then proceed with getting the best deal on extensions. I don't think 7/150 is a wise gamble, but doing some projection, cost controlling arb years and then attempting to secure or option even 1 or 2 FA years with Byron Buxton is in the team's best interest .... this off-season .... IMO.
