1. Congrats, Perkins, on back-to-back 30 save seasons!! The surest thing the Twins have right now!
2. At 82 pitches, Gibson still has a chance at a maddux ... I hope they let him go for it.
3. C'mon Kennys ... SLAM IT!!
4. How long 'til Murphy gets bumped up to CR? Those numbers make me think E-Town isn't much of a challenge for him.
5. Yadi out 8-12 with a thumb .... Maybe Cards will be calling about Suzuki
6. Parmelee to 1B full-time ... Waive Florimon .... Add Farris to platoon with Fuld in CF until some guys get healthy/figure it out and they can fix that mess ... Just my $.02
7. Yeah, my neighbor and I were in the garage and laughing about those. Willingham (said with your best good ole boy accent): "I can hit the ball a country mile, but I don't run good." Mauer (said with your best Beaver Cleaver accent): "Gosh, Brian, I sure am glad you didn't get hurt on that wall. I feel just awful for cuttin' you off like that. I could buy you a soda-pop after the game, seein' as I make a lot more money than you and all."
8. That start by Pino was a great follow-up to the Gibson performance on Wednesday. Coupled with watching Willingham take batting practice off Quintana, that start made me forget the Fien hiccuppish meltdown already. I was also glad to see Fien get back to business with a 5 pitch/5 strike inning. Short memory/Go make the next play ... Love it! Back to Pino, his command was lights out. If you can locate the way he was locating, it doesn't matter so much if it's 89 or 98. He also looked very composed and comfortable. The only composure hiccup was that four pitch walk to Beckham with runners on first and third. Anderson made the trip and settled him down. Damage control followed thanks to a laser throw from Fuld to Dozier on the Gillaspie single. Pino then strikes out Yogi Abreu and paints zeros for four more innings. Awesome!! Also, see my reply at the end of this post: http://www.twinsdaily.com/showthread.php/9968-Twins-Spring-Training-Non-Roster-Invite It was a question and not a prediction, but I'll pat myself on the back anyway.
9. Hey, these numbers are to be regularly expected
64 251 54 61 114 11 0 14 33 41 0 53 14 4 .243 .353 .454 .808 0.77
10. So does JO get the bump to New Britain after the first half wraps up, or is he better served staying at this level a full season considering his age?
11. Yeah, that 101st pitch means auto-DL and dangerous anxiety levels for Gardy
12. To be fair, when Johnson came up for a spot start, he threw 106 pitches in 4.1 innings, walked 6 dudes and gave up four more hits ... He was about as lucky as Correia has been unlucky (not defending Correia in the least) to not give up any runs .... He didn't do the job that needed to be done at the time -- give the bullpen a break. Fortunately, Nolasco came out the next day and went the distance in a loss. I think that gives a little more credibility to Gardy saying ~ we know where they're at.
13. How about Ortiz getting promoted and not missing a beat so far? How long until he cracks the top 20 Twins prospects on MLBPipeline?
14. I agree, but I think Meyer's rumored innings limit is going to put a big damper on him contributing much in the rotation this season. I can see him being called up to let it fly a few innings in the bullpen each week. The team will need Deduno in the rotation. Hopefully, Swarzak can get back on track as a swingman.
15. So happy for CP ... Hope he can take off from here!!
16. He needs more time at AAA anyway.
17. This!! Seriously, though .. CP should be brought up and played every day against RHP for 2-3 straight months regardless of slumps, etc. .... If he can't show that he's an MLB level talent in that time frame, then I guess he got his fair shake. Still feel like CP will end up being Garret Jones II.
18. Call up the Cardinals and see what they want for either Jay or Bourjos?
19. Hicks needs to go to AAA .... Bring up Ramirez as the 4th OF and emergency CF or look for another Fuld type to get DFA'd ... Not all these guys are going to work out ... Pinto and Cowbell look like ML hitters and Plouffe seems to have turned a corner ... Also time to move Eddie R back to OF when his suspension is over ... Dozier looks locked into 2B and Polanco and to lesser degree Beresford appear to provide some organizational depth there as well ...
20. Target Field needs to have a Cowbell giveaway sometime this season. It would sound like a WBC game in Miami, but take the story and run with it!!
21. Once again, Mauer kicks the can down the road to someone else in the lineup.
22. ... and this seeps right down from the high school to elementary baseball at least in Bloomington where I live .... I can't even count the number of coaches and assistant coaches that have told me they would "just love to take a kid who didn't have much skill and have him do something great in baseball". Rarely, but sometimes, I hear something along the lines of: "That kid has a ton of skill, if he can just get the right coaching he could do something great."
23. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRcia!!!
24. Aww ... man, a homer from Semien ! I had him on my fantasy team, but he wasn't doing anything. I guess I'll just have to call it a premature drop of Semien.
25. Got the lead and Quintana's PC is mounting ... Sox getting Escobarred ... I'll take it
