  1. You've got to be kidding me. Aybar? How is Adrianza any more of a rally killer than washed-up Erik F Aybar? Bat Adrianza 9th and take the lights out D up the middle. Keep Escobar as the super-sub.
  2. Maybe a Dozier extension will come of this ... If Gordon can come up and suck just enough to get the FO to realize that they need to move on negotiations, there could be a silver lining here.
  3. Give Gordon a chance to wally pipp Polanco. Maybe he's the type that responds to challenge, maybe not. If not, Adrianza, Escobar, Aybar and Petis can just be in a hot hand rotation until Polanco returns.
  4. Is this possibly a spring training roster? No catchers are listed. Toby Gardenhire, Brian Dinkelman, Cibney Bello and Justin Willard are the Kernels staff, last I checked. This honestly looks more like a Cedar Rapids Kernels projected roster minus catchers.
  5. Where did you get this roster? I'll be surprised if the organization is that aggressive with all those players. Lewis might be fast-tracked, but I think a lot of those other top prospects end up in Cedar Rapids. I guess some of them could get mid-season promotions, but I doubt it will be more than a couple of them. Enlow might go to CR, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the EST/E-Twins track. I would also think Moran, Dobnak, Ober, Javier, Baddoo, Kirilloff, Bechtold, Miranda and others will be spending most, if not all, of the season in the Midwest League.
  6. This .... and he seems to reach back for extra in spotlight moments ... Very fun player to have on the team .... If he ever finds that singularity of competitive passion and fundamental control, he'll be a five-tool all-star. I could project Charlie Blackmon minus the Coors park factor but better defense.
  7. Loved the piece, Nick. Thanks. I think there is a wide spectrum of positions regarding Garver around Twins Daily. I'm bullish and am glad he's getting the nod. Regardless, an article like this highlighting the confidence of a player that has high expectations for this team is a great way to lead into this very much anticipated season.
  8. If it would have "happened" this past off-season, there would definitely be a suspension regardless of the nature of the accounts (e.g. Twitter, complaint filed, etc.) Since the incident allegedly took place in 2015, I won't be surprised if there is no suspension. Too many hoping for or assuming a statement-making suspension are still using verbage that makes it seem like this incident happened in the very recent past. There has been 2+ years of time for behavioral changes to happen. That should come into play given the lack of much evidence other than a Twitter post and zero additional metoo or methree moments since the allegations.

    Dummy Hoy

Great piece. Thanks! Reminded me of a story back in the early 90s when the crowd at the old Olympic Stadium tried to cheer so loud to create a vibration so that Curtis Pride could "hear" them.
  10. At least Rosario looks to be in the lineup at DH today .... Hopefully, that's a good sign
  11. Seems that Lynn will be a fan of the rule limiting mound visits .... "I just stare back into their soul and tell them to go back to the dugout."
  12. I doubt anyone at Rochester is blocking Romero's path to the big club. The only things blocking him are the service clock, an innings limit to protect his arm and possibly the org's desire for him to further develop his tertiary offerings. I would guess he's going to Chattanooga to keep working with Arteaga.
  13. Just a friendly edit .... Should be Chattanooga, not New Britain, in the first paragraph
  14. Polanco responded well to failure last season. I'm bullish on that growth playing well for him this season. If he can improve enough defensively to be a middle-of-the-pack SS and hit the midpoint between his MLB career wRC+ and MiLB career wRC+, I think he will provide stability at the position for awhile. It's nice to have prospect depth, but I'm not in any hurry to run a 24 yo big leaguer - who was once a prospect that everyone was salivating over - out of town yet. His best years are ahead of him, and I hope they are with the Twins.
  15. I understand this sentiment, but, assuming the Twins won't be in on the Machado sweepstakes - and he wants to play SS anyway, Escobar and Marwin Gonzalez are going to be the youngest UFA 3Bs in their market (both in their age 30 seasons). A three year deal buys years 30-32. Gonzalez is probably going to cost a lot more. With Escobar's positional flexibility, he could easily slide back to a swiss-army-knife role in the last year of that 3 year deal, if a younger player was pushing for the 3B role and decline was starting to set in.
  16. One question that comes up in my mind with 3B is: Should Eduardo Escobar be considered as the 3B of the post-Dozier/Mauer future? Could he be our Justin Turner at a relatively lower cost? Bechtold and Miranda are pretty green prospects, even if they are high ceiling. I don't see Blankenhorn as a fast riser. Maybe a 2019 offseason of Morrison to 1b, Sano to DH and Escobar being signed to a 3 year deal to mostly play 3B is worth considering.
  17. As soon as I saw the article title and then the lead in, I knew this would end up being another rip-on-Sano thread. To loosely quote another TD contributor (Thrylos) from another thread: All that matters with Sano is .359 wOBA / 124 wRC+ . If he sticks at 3rd for a couple years, then great. At present, DH and 1B are only filled in 2018 and possibly 50% filled in 2019. If Sano has to move to either of those positions, so be it. The team is looking at some available payroll in 2019, if they want to go 3B shopping.
  18. Hope Berrios still gets Opening Day. Otherwise, good deal, good price, no long term commitment. I'm sure we'll still get a post-signing piece regurgitating all of the analysis from the plethora of articles before this signing. After that ... Play ball!
  19. Couldn't agree more .... The next 3 weeks are going to seem like 3 months. Even more so, if I have to keep reading things like offering Lance Lynn 10 mill a year is disrespectful in one place and then offering more than 15 mill a year to Dozier is dumb in another.
  20. There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach. - Aesop
  21. All the names dropped (other than Dozier)from the top of this article through the comment above mine won't end up combining for Twins career WAR equal to Dozier's.
  22. We need to fast forward to March 29. This is third featured article in a row covering a horse that's been dead for awhile now. How much more does this subject need to be broken down. Ted, this has nothing to do with your writing, just the general vibe. I actually appreciate your contributions very much.
  23. He needs more than 6 innings to prove if his game will be effective at the MLB level. MiLB numbers are quite dominate. He served up a couple "welcome to the bigs" jacks after getting called up straight from AA, but he was otherwise decent in a small sample. I'll be a fan of his jitterbug style as long as it isn't Balk City.
  24. If the Twins decide that Gibson is the hometown FA that they want to keep over Mauer or Dozier, I will be scratching my head. If he pitches well enough to even make that a discussion, then QO and nothing more.
  25. If you want to do a comparison in a vacuum, I doubt you will get many, if any, supporters of Mejia having a higher ceiling. But, circumstances do exist, and they favor Mejia being higher in the pecking order at present. Said circumstance are going to weigh more heavily on a team in the Twins market, especially considering the historical MO of ownership.
