Hmmm ... Interesting that this news breaks the same day that Swihart is asking for a trade .... Not sure if he would move the needle and what he would cost, but it might be worth a phone call.

Gordon isn't going to happen. Levine basically said so in an interview, when he was out at Frontier Field. His defense and base-running aren't there yet. They can't be making all decisions based on offensive slash lines. Also, Buxton once again proved that he can change games with his speed. He got in the Cardinals' heads with his speed on his bunt and then swiped third on a wild pitch that didn't really get that far from the catcher. None of that stuff shows up in the slash line.

WARNE: The Twins Should Promote Nick Gordon
slash129 commented on Brandon Warne's blog entry in BW on the Beat
Likely won't move the needle Also, it doesn't sound like he's going to be coming up anytime soon: http://www.pickinsplinters.com/2018/05/15/would-wings-consider-affiliation-change-twins-gm-hopes-not/ Straight from Levine. On top prospect Nick Gordon: The 22-year-old shortstop is hitting .350 with a .918 OPS with Double-A Chattanooga. He is second in the Southern League in hits (48), second in total bases (72) and fourth in batting average. Gordon was the Twins first-round pick (5th overall) in 2014. Levine said he expects Gordon to play in Rochester at some point this season, but he hasn’t had enough Double-A at-bats yet. “In terms of development, we have a plan going out of spring training to really give guys a chance to have momentum going into the season,” Levine said. “His bat is borderline Major League ready right now, he showed us that in spring training. It’s the defensive side of the game that we’ll continue to challenge him to develop on, it’s the base-running side of the game.” -
Uncle Bob will be out of here in 17 hours pouting about a season series loss. Target Field will have about 50 hours to air out, and the staff has that same window to unclog all the toilets. Thanks, Uncle Bob. Then the Brew Crew and their fans come in for a long weekend of happy drunkenness. Go Twins!!! Note: Yes, I unapologetically stole RiverBrian's Uncle Bob persona.

Completely agree with this. Berrios' stuff is filthy, and he does know how to command and control it. I think his biggest problem is that he has very high expectations of himself that cross-over into some possible obsessive perfectionism at times. Those expectations are very achievable, but not when he let's a walk, solo shot or missed call by the umpire get in his head. Then he overcompensates while trying to correct the miscue. As he matures, I expect him to maintain the personal expectations but also understand that the road to those achievements will have bumps and jogs, etc. That should lead to the stretches of below-averageness being much shorter during the peak of his career.

That's two 40 moves, two burnt options and two clocks a tickin'. I think Wade's approach will translate, and he should be a significant defensive upgrade over Grossman. However, if that was going to be the move, it should have been done when Buxton went on the DL. Now he's not going to play every day. Is that worth the 40-move, option and clock start? How much is BABIP Gordon going to move the needle at the MLB level against MLB defenses? I don't think he runs like his brother, so he could just be the AA version of 2014 Danny Santana. Is he going to make that play that Adrianza made last night to keep the game at 0-0 at the time? -
Would like to see him get that BB% up a bit. His BABIP is riding high right now. The production is great, but he's not a speed demon. If he keeps hitting everything in A-ball on the screws, he'll need to be challenged at a higher level to round out his approach. It is great to see him come back from injury and start lighting it up though.

Another start or two even close to this, and Graterol won't have much left to prove in A ball. All of us Twins fans will need to be patient, since he still isn't that far removed from injury and will need to build his workload year over year.

Weak pop flies off of wet bats into heavy damp air was the story of that snoozer. Watching the grounds crew prepare the field was more entertaining. -

Lol ... Apparently, you didn't see Gonsalves' line last time out. It made Lynn look like a relative All-Star. What's going to happen when Gonsalves does get called up and has a couple bad outings in a row? Will you give him a longer leash than Buxton's two games back without a rehab gig? Or, will you start entreating the FO to call up Clark Beeker and kick Gonsalves to the curb?- 30 replies

Taking that win and running after consecutive nights of less than stellar starting pitching. Lynn junked it through four, fell apart in the fifth and somehow talked Monitor into staying in against Ohtani and Simmons. Gibson and Romero have me hopeful for at least a split.- 30 replies

Article: LAA 7, MIN 4: What’s Up With Berrios?
slash129 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we give Buxton a series to get his timing back? He didn't have a rehab assignment for better or worse. Molitor put him in the 9 hole. His trickle down effect on defense is worth it. With all the action that Kepler was getting in right field, can you imagine if that would have been Grossman?- 48 replies

Richards' back foot breaking ball on lefties is getting some stupid swings. -
It's fair to be disappointed with Stewart's slow road to develop, but it was the Twins who made him the #4 overall pick and gave him the money to lure him away from his Texas A&M commitment. They knew the risk of drafting a football first athlete for baseball who had projectable "stuff" but little refinement. I don't get into the guts of the MLB draft and tend to pay more attention to the players after they are drafted, so I can't remember what the general feeling about taking him that high really was around here. It's obvious that he wasn't at the top of the assumed prospects list that Falvine took on, and they showed that by not protecting him. However, the Rule 5 draft with all its roster rules can hardly be the sounding board for actual value on prospects. Many players just don't fit the stash and hide model. What I can say is that using his past start and the 10 hits surrendered as a data point for arguing that he continues to disappoint is very weak once you look at the other numbers, the outcome and circumstances surrounding those 10 hits.

Well, he didn't walk anyone and only one of those hits went for extra bases. It looks like several of the "hits" never left the infield. The defense was poor making four errors that game (two behind Stewart), although they did turn a double-play that Stewart coaxed and threw a runner out at home. My take is that he stopped the bleeding and worked out of jams early in a game where his BABIP luck was against him. Six innings, K per inning, no walks, no homers, two earned runs, .500 BABIP against (including 7/14 on ground balls) .... Sounds like a quality start to me It may be that your expectations are perverted.

Before yesterday's start, I was looking at how the turns would stack up for Romero. @ St. Louis and @ Anaheim looked pretty daunting, especially when you could back Romero up a day and still have Odorizzi pitch on regular rest @ Anaheim on Sunday. I thought to just push Romero into Monday and let him be @ Home vs. Seattle. The way he seemed to just take the whole first road start in stride against a first place team on the road made me change my mind. Let's see what he's made of in Anaheim vs. Trout and Co. Ohtani may even be on the bump for the Angels, so that could be a really good pressure cooker test for the young Romero. The hitters seeing 97 on the edge may have the tougher assignment.- 79 replies
