  1. Walker walks four times! I really like what Reynaldo Rodriguez and Dalton Hicks are doing this year. Hicks has been on fire since last July or so. Zach Granite would really help Fort Myers right now.
  2. Yeah, I went through a lot of articles today that made "The Wire" look like "Happy Days" or something. $6 million in lawsuits for police brutality awarded in the past 4 years. Cops basically laying in wait for school-age children as they got off of buses (then those kids started throwing rocks). Thousands of people engaged in peaceful protests, but they aren't angry black males, so no media attention. Fear-mongering garbage about gangs coming together to attack police (they merely called a truce to protest). With regard to that last point, however--it certainly is true that the established authorities do have that fear. They fear the end of the days of being able to merely watch black people kill each other and the beginning of the days when black people stand together united and come after them.
  3. I think it is 7 of 11, but maybe I am wrong. It's impressive though.
  4. According to FG, wasn't Plouffe 9th amongst 3B in WAR and isn't he 15th so far this year? That's called the wrong direction.
  5. Good grief, even Vargas has a slightly higher OPS than Escobar (about the same at the time of the at bat).
  6. Eduardo Escobar 2015: .146/.186/.244 (.430) Oswaldo Arcia 2015: .200/.275/.267 (.541)
  7. Just wondering what people thought about the situation there. I don't have the time to get it started with my own thoughts right now, but will soon.
  8. It's not just an oligarchy but an oligarchy with dynastic figureheads. Chelsea 2024.
  9. I didn't know how Schafer got to second base. I basically would almost never bunt anyone over to second base, especially if the guy on first is a very good base stealer. Try the steal and if it works, bunt him to third.
  10. Um, you are the one claiming he is "one of the best at his position" and a real extension candidate.
  11. I will be disappointed if the Twins don't trade him by August 1st this year.
  12. No idea. I like Escobar . . . . but he isn't even hitting well at all this year. Arcia should have been batting.
  13. 60 PA, .246/.267/.544 (.811), two doubles, five homers, two walks, and 25 strikeouts. The power and strikeouts aren't going anywhere. He tends to slowly creep along with that OBP until about midseason where he gets it over .300. Hopefully that happens again this year, because the power numbers might continue to be this impressive.
  14. Well . . . Navarreto had a double in the past week. All three attempted base stealers successfully stole their base. He has a .368 OPS. Needless to say, things are starting out slowly for Brian this year.
  15. Salcedo continues to be dominant out of the bullpen. In six IP this week he gave up no runs while striking out six. He gave up just three hits and no walks. Out of the bullpen for Chattanooga this year: 10 IP, no earned runs, nine strikeouts, and two walks. The six hits given up have all been singles.
  16. Ortiz is heating up a bit. In the past week he has homered and walked the same number of times as he struck out (2). Overall: 53 PA, .250/.321/.396 (.717), one double, two homers, five walks, 13 strikeouts, and one steal. No overt miscues in either corner OF spot.
  17. And there is evidence that Plouffe is going to perform in 2015 like he did in 2014 somewhere? Where is that evidence?
  18. That would be Jack Buck, father of Joe Buck. Sometimes the apple falls far from the tree . . .
  19. 139 2/3 innings pitched, 169 strikeouts, and only 44 walks.
  20. I thought it was "**** You" . . . for whatever stupid reason. I don't understand how such a thing leads to that though.
  21. I haven't watched enough this year, but do you observers believe it is a matter of not getting to certain balls, missing routine ones, making errant throws when he has to hurry, or missing routine throws? There are four options there.
  22. 1. I don't understand why the Hunter-Arcia thing went down the way it did in the first place. 2. I don't understand why when Schafer and Robinson are both in the game, Schafer is in CF. 3. I don't understand what, exactly, is going on with Hicks' defense. They claim was that he was MLB-ready defensively *years* ago. How does poor route running escape evaluators for the Twins from 2008 or whatever-on? 4. I don't understand how Danny Santana didn't get time to learn LF in the offseason and spring training. Just as an option and additional chance for him. The Hunter-Arcia swap must happen. That is the minimum.
  23. Around means you are back at the top. I have *literally* never heard any announcer say "they have now batted around in the inning" when the ninth guy came to the plate. Nine guys batting would be *through* and ten is *around*. I like confidently . . . . not settling things.
  24. Damn it, I said this all along in the lead up to the season and my articles about Walker and Harrison! Few actually believe it would be possible. Granted, I also thought Rosario would be involved, but it still stands that this is totally doable.
  25. This could actually be a very good thread with patient, reasoned discussion about what development actually means and where it is best to be had for various players. I do agree with some others about Pinto and the bullpen, however. Pinto was just down for some lost time, I thought. What in the world? Now they seem to have a different thing in mind about him? I see Nunez as falling rapidly in production off the bench while Herrmann might be sufficient. I have said this elsewhere, but I see no problem in Pinto being a bench player who gets a couple starts behind the play, a DH start once every 8-10 games, and then an almost mandatory PH at bat for Schafer or Robinson. Use the guy for Twins wins and get him time in MLB because the Suzuki ride will end eventually. I don't see it last much into June for that guy this year. This "playing every day" stuff is funny, especially with regard to catchers. The bullpen could be totally reworked outside of Fien and Perkins right now! And wait on Aaron Thompson, because, hey, he is performing as a true reliever instead of a starter/reliever as in the minors. Four new guys. Get $25,000 back for Graham, eat Stauffer's contract with waivers, send Thielbar back down, and waive Boyer. Duensing can go too somehow after he comes back. This is just silly. Tonkin, Oliveros, Achter, and O'Rourke are immediate viable options for a trial.
