  1. In his last start, Batts pitched six innings, giving up one earned run. He struck out four and walked one. His ERA is now down to 2.05.
  2. Finish May in AA, move to AAA until the All-Star break, and then join the Twins
  3. What on earth does poor James Beresford need to do to get a cup of coffee? How about they see how *he* responds in a few spot starts and as a utility player playing three infield positions? Bernier? What on earth? Beresford is a lot like Herrmann, in my view. The ceiling is utility, so the "play every day" line doesn't fit.
  4. And what would Arcia learn by returning to AAA?
  5. Rochester in June and potentially the Twins after the All-Star break. I don't see it happening earlier than that. I want him to get some AAA time to see different breaking balls. Let's end the year with Rosario-Buxton-Arcia-Hicks as the 4 OF.
  6. Thanks for the eye test confirmation. Now just to get that bat going after he returns.
  7. The Wetmore article is pretty clear. I think we are looking at a Polanco kind of situation, not a Santana situation. Maybe a bit ahead of Polanco. This says little about Hicks other than in his situation they are not interested in playing yo-yo at all. Rosario has not played up to the level of his competition, so that is a strange statement. The versatility comment is just in reference to Pinto and Fryer. Eric Fryer was considered . . . that third catcher thing might come from Ryan as much as it did Gardy? I really think some 40 and 25 man roster changes could be in store by August 1st, including some DFAs and a couple trades (Escobar, Fien). Pinto, Rosario, Hicks, Buxton, Sano, Z. Jones (simply the best performer out of those Chatty guys), Oliveros, and Meyer could be Twins starting in August. Polanco, Berrios, Reed, and Burdi get September calls (and Herrmann comes back).
  8. Absolutely. I don't see it happening from this group of Twins journalists. Molitor seems more open to a frank discussion, though.
  9. Also, for those who love to talk about trades (as in trading X veteran away for Y prospect), a list like this is helpful because these are the players available for the likes of Hunter, Plouffe, Escobar (maybe), Nolasco (2016), etc.
  10. I absolutely love articles like this featuring prospects that are in that 300-600 range overall. Rosario is probably a 200 or so prospect, but whatever (Hu, Duffey, Walker, Harrison, Rogers, Michael, Turner, Reed, and Bra. Peterson are the Twins prospects off the top of my head who I would put in that 300-600 range, though I have no knowledge of other teams' prospects in order to properly make the comparison).
  11. If one looked me up, one would see that I have co-edited one book on anarchism, and another book entitled Revolutionary Hope, so I guess I can be clear about my suspicion of "leaders" organizing movements. Occupy still has some effect without leaders, even while facing pressure to "come up with legislation" and to organize into an actual political party (!). For every MLK Jr., there are dozens of damn Bolsheviks.
  12. Yeah, that article should be mandatory reading for everyone in this country. It was pretty thorough and laid it all out pretty clearly. I have written and presented a paper ridiculing the notion of tolerance as a liberal value that is actually somewhat disastrous. Taken for its definition it means that we are to "tolerate" others. I argue that this is just a "play nice" attitude that buries a lot of other things that remain hidden from public discourse. And it is totally different than accepting and embracing diversity for the value that different people and cultures offer to actually improve oneself. I have an example of that too. When I came to Purdue as a grad student, I was coming to West Lafayette without ever setting foot there before (I was poor, lived in Bemidji, 21, etc. and didn't think about doing it differently), so I did the easiest thing instead of apt. hunting--I moved into the grad dorms (for one year only, dear god). Now, it turns out that dorms 500 or so occupants where about 52% white, 35% East Asian, 10% Indian, and a smattering making up "other." But I swear I thought--just with the number of Asian people--that I was in a small minority of white people. This situation was exacerbated by language barriers that probably further distorted my perceptions. I laugh at it now, especially given how wrong I was about the population breakdown, but I was very uncomfortable in that situation. And I still use that example for people in my classes today.
  13. In philosopher speak, riots are usually a necessary condition but never a sufficient one in bringing about radical change when radical change is needed.
  14. This is worth the read: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/good-men-project/why-its-so-hard-to-talk-to-white-people-about-racism_b_7183710.html
  15. I actually believed that no argument against Gonsalves would be possible. Anyone know about the FB velocity for him right now?
  16. Great article. It is pretty clear that this is a two-week thing, but also that Molitor's history with Rosario means something.
  17. All I am actually saying is that he hasn't even done well at all beyond A+ ball besides a good AFL showing in the fall. It would be hard to imagine a scenario where he does all that well in MLB given the struggles in AA and AAA over the past 10 months.
  18. Schafer and Escobar have been subject to my most recent attacks, and look at them tonight. Seriously.
  19. Well, what about the sizable sample size from Eddie Rosario over the last year, aside from moderate success in the AFL!? Anyway, I have said here or elsewhere that I understand the move instead of Hicks.
  20. I have always liked Rosario, his suspension was total nonsense, and I think he will be a good player for the Twins sooner rather than later. And I understand the 15-day nature of this. What I don't understand is how anyone could think that staying up with the Twins could or should happen.
  21. AFL stats were pretty good for Hicks in 2011 as well. Ahem. AFL stats are almost as bad as ST stats as far as SSS go.
  22. Rosario's 2013 time in AA amounted to a .742 OPS. That was good for a second baseman, but "very good" for nobody, regardless of position.
  23. After a pretty thoroughly sub-par half season at AA last year and a sub-par month at AAA? I actually don't hope, for his sake, that he hits well in 12+ games and then the Twins keep him up. Have we learned nothing from the Aaron Hicks experience?
  24. And it is a true 15 day kind of replacement with Rosario headed back down afterwards. When Hicks comes up, it will be for good (or bad--then he will be gone). I will say that I don't know if this is really a good thing for Rosario at the moment. If he struggles on top of his lackluster time in AAA and AA the past 100 or whatever games, then I could see the rest of 2015 being a problem for him. I wish they had Danny Ortiz on the 40-man so he could take this spot instead.
