  1. It bothers me because I thought this was to be Arcia's breakout year. That is, I expected about a 25% increase in offensive production while a 0-5% increase in his defense. Things are going the opposite direction right now. And, you know what? I remember it being like, a thing, that Gardenhire jabbered about . . . Arcia was better in RF than LF. The dude played RF way, way more in the minors. And then Torii Hunter comes along this year and somehow cannot play LF. As though Torii Hunter, a one-time great defensive CF could only now play RF instead of LF. As though it made any sense, at all, to move a guy from RF to LF when he A: isn't good defensively anyway, B: had basically only played RF in the minors, and C: was getting a bit better out in RF last year. Tonight's blunder was a lazy stupid move, but one has to wonder about the effects on his overall game with this dumb move to LF.
  2. By all accounts, good enough. He certainly is not Arcia-like. It would be fair, I think, to say average. He's pretty athletic and can move out there, but he also isn't going to be making spectacular plays. It is hard to have any accurate description of his route-taking and whatnot. I would think that he is certainly *not* going to be relegated to a DH-only role going forward.
  3. Also, I thought that 3.2 beer was B.S.? As though they really made separate beer for Sunday sales only instead of paying a fine for false labeling. There isn't 3.2 beer. Am I wrong about that?
  4. Indiana is the other state that is this ridiculous (and these are the only two states I have lived in . . . ). It has, now, nothing to do with religious anything. It is all about liquor stores vs. grocery stores. And I still do not understand it at all. How the hell liquor stores have more power than Kroger and others here, I do not know. I imagine the issue is the same in Minnesota. Liquor stores don't think they can compete against heavvy grocery shopping that is done on Sunday.
  5. I always thought that they could figure out a roster rotation at Chatty with all those guys, but Hicks could move up to AAA given his hot start.
  6. I just watched the play. I would have pulled him in the half inning, without a doubt. That is inexcusable. He just was lazy. When I was a kid I was taught to get into position and catch the ball with two hands. I do not understand why anyone would ever do anything different than that. He had ample time to *at least* be square to the damn ball when catching it. Good god.
  7. Exactly right. Herrmann is about the only guy that the Twins have worked through the system to fill out a roster. They seem to get attached to "regular or bust" ideas about their prospects.
  8. This. Back around 2012-2013 I thought of him as Pedro Florimon (when he was shaky) but with a bat that could keep him in the majors if he didn't strike out too much. We'll see how that pans out.
  9. Twelve games have been played so far this year. Look around the league at some of the players who are struggling mightily. Should the Reds send Billy Hamilton down? Etc. etc.
  10. The above is just for argument's sake. I don't think Pinto should be anywhere but catching two games a week for the Twins, DHing one, and being whatever scrubby starting CF's personal pinch hitter. Make Pinto and Escobar into 1/2 time players for the MLB club.
  11. Might Pinto learn more from Eric Fryer at Rochester than from Suzuki in Minnesota?
  12. I basically would never send him down to AAA again. Same with Arcia, and probably Vargas. Pinto down there again beyond a reasonable time is already atrocious enough. If ever comes down to Doug Bernier replacing Danny Santana, I will give up. I don't even know what it means, but I will give up.
  13. Pat Dean has weeks like that. To last a month, I would be shocked. And if Pat Dean gets called up before Meyer, I will be pretty sick. It will mean ridiculous things.
  14. An update, since a lot has happened in 10 more plate appearances. 35 PA, .303/.314/.697, one double, four homers, one walk, and 15 strikeouts.
  15. An interesting mix of both, you know!
  16. So far: 30 PA, .259/.333/.370, one homer, one steal, three walks (!), and nine strikeouts, while playing both corner OF positions. We will see if the walk rate sticks. It would be nice, because it is the only real hurdle for him to get over before being a serious MLB call up contender, in my view.
  17. Salcedo is pitching well out of the bullpen for Chattanooga in the early going: As reliever: Four IP, no earned runs, three strikeouts, and two walks Unfortunately, they were short on starters for a game, so they stuck Salcedo out there. As a starter: Three IP, two earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout. I don't think Salcedo has any future as a starter, so maybe they won't try this again. I am waiting this season for the logjam of mediocrity to open up at the top (Boyer, Graham, Duensing, Stauffer, Thielbar) for five other guys to get their chance. Salcedo is on the fringe of those five. He has just been in the system for so long that I would like to see him up in September!
  18. Things have not started out well for Navarreto at the plate: 30 PA, .167/.167/.167, no steals, no walks, and nine strikeouts. He has gunned down five of six attempted base stealers so far. That is positive and again speaks to my claim about his defense (ahem). I am hoping the bat turns around soon so that there aren't any ideas about sending him back to EST and E-Town.
  19. Thanks! I followed the "Brett" traditional around here, but forgot to then change III to II.
  20. Keep in mind that it seems to be true that the only real defensive value Suzuki brings is in "handling the staff." I am not saying that there is no merit to the claim, but I am also not sure A: what the hell it means, B: that isn't overblown, and C: that it isn't just something good to say about catchers who you like personally.
  21. Nunez is certainly not part of any future for the Twins. I would like to see Pinto up to replace him. Suzuki is fine for the moment, but that moment might not last as long as it did in 2014. What is really going on with claims about Pinto's defense? Parker did a good job analyzing this before the season started and it certainly doesn't seem to be the case there there is just something awful about Pinto's defense that makes him not serviceable. On the other hand, what is with the Twins and some Twins fans around here who don't want "waste" Pinto in a primary bench role? I say load up the roster and have strong bench bats, especially when Schafer or Robinson is starting every game. All of this said, I do think that there is going to have be some movement (trade movement) between Arcia-Vargas-Pinto (perhaps even two of them). I would think Vargas is the guy they like the most of the three. Personally, I really like Pinto and have since 2012. I would like to see him up and getting some starts behind the plate now. Suzuki can come in for defense every damn game in the 8th inning if they want.
  22. Good point! I can't change it at the moment, for some reason (can't edit the original post).
