  1. I honestly don't get the "this isn't our biggest problem" crowd? So . . . smaller problems don't add up to a big one?
  2. The trades were the correct trades to make. I don't see how anyone could have predicted Worley to be this damn terrible. Maybe bad, but not like this. Benson didn't need to go anywhere so he would have been available instead of using true organizational filler to fill-in with a likely sub-500 OPS.
  3. Against a lefty, this is going to be interesting to see who is in the lineup. Herrmann doesn't have much of a split difference over the past two seasons, whereas Thomas really did in 2012. And the other options in RF are Arcia, Parmelee, and Doumit. I would prefer Willingham-Herrmann-Parmelee, with Doumit DHing (and letting Arcia rest one game). But I bet it is Willingham-Thomas-Doumit with Arcia DHing.
  4. A: Parmelee is not going to be waived. He will be around next year unless some strange trade happens involving him before then. B: Hicks is not going to be replaced by Buxton next year. And Hicks isn't going to replaced at all unless you mean to RF. C: Florimon isn't that young. Not that huge of a surprise either--I never thought he would be terrible. D: Parmelee did not light up the minors. He had a great few months at AAA last year. That's it. E: Sano will be a star in the majors. F: Alex Meyer is a good pitcher right now and has been good in the majority of his starts. He projects to be a 3-type starter at minimum. G: Worley has been horrible and May has been good. That doesn't make that trade better.
  5. Well, adding Richardson could have merely meant removing Hermsen from the 40-man or making that other oh so hard decision, apparently, involving Butera. Any word on Ramirez? Herrmann and Arcia likely in CF, with Thomas still as the backup. I would hope that they never have Arcia in CF with Willingham in LF at the same time.
  6. Let's let Romero hit at AAA for another month before getting too excited. He is definitely a corner infielder, so that helps his cause some. Injuries (Plouffe, Carroll) and trades (Morneau and/or Plouffe) are almost needed for him, though.
  7. I would add Adam Walker, JD Williams and Danny Ortiz as well. Probably some OF clearing at Fort Myers or when Ray and Roberts come back they just move to NB.
  8. Ok, well it does seem like they go full screen some of the time. But they weren't going to have a t.v. show without those guys on screen.
  9. J.D. advances Buxton and Polanco delivers. Would people prefer play-by-play to TK nitpicking Buxton's base running?
  10. I find the complaining (other than that graphic of stars or whatever at the top) to be a bit ridiculous. You get to see Byron Buxton on television and hear a good conversation involving Smalley and Kelly about the minor league system. What do you want? Some play-by-play guys for a low-A team? Anyway, I am glad that they are playing Kane County since I have FSMW here in Indiana and maybe needed a Cub affiliate to get televised. Not sure.
  11. Robinson and Kaat were great. I grew up to that. And then this . . .
  12. Yeah, I am not sure who I envisioned actually in the booth. John and Aaron or maybe Nick and Aaron. Parker and you could be used for exactly as you say, good video analysis and good minor league information.
  13. Chad Christensen is another steal.
  14. Albers is going to find himself a spot with the Twins by next year. If not starting, he will be the long reliever as Swarzak gets to arbitration next year (1 million???). There is a good case to be made for Albers moving up to the Twins rotation pretty soon though. Correia, Diamond, and Deduno may be all safe right now. Pelfrey and Walters? Not so much. I would be pleased with Gibson and Albers coming up pronto.
  15. Good rest of the draft so far. A lot of college pitchers.
  16. You are probably right, but it might depend on what happens this season and this offseason in terms of trading away Morneau, Willingham, Doumit, and Plouffe.
  17. Irby is definitely looking like a reliever. He put up interesting offensive stats, though. They could see what's going on in E-Town and change course. Good pick. The Twins did well in 4-10 and the first round. I am not sure about Slegers, at the moment, since he isn't all that great. He might be one to develop the ability to strike more batters out. I saw him pitch once this year and he looks the role, but something is amiss with his velocity. Worthwhile to take here though.
  18. I don't pay much attention to defensive WAR. OPS (coupled with steals and watching to see things like advancing runners, etc.) is pretty good for a way to judge offensive performance. WAR just tries to take this a step further and the notion of a "replacement player" is a very valuable thing in judging a player's value. Defense is way trickier.
  19. I get the impression that perhaps Molitor just loves teaching the game. That is why he moves around and doesn't care about managing or being an actual coach.
  20. I doubt that more than one of these catchers will make the big leagues. and that won't be until 2016.
  21. The Twins have maybe Jorge Fernandez below Koch and that's it. The rest are not very good. Navarreto will be the best other than McGuire and Denney out of this draft. Garver is a nice pick as well. His upside is basically Chris Herrmann.
  22. I mean 4-8. The 9th and 10th are to be determined
  23. It would be an intriguing option, and there is no reason to not play the lottery here with him.
  24. You win this thread with the R.E.M. reference.
