  1. Can Dozier be traded straight up for a starting catcher? Maybe the Twins could get Wilson Ramos back...
  2. Hopefully the Twins coaches have given him some clear things to focus on while in the minors. I'd like to see him focus on pitch recognition. Two potential goals to help him do this are: get down a bunt in every gametry to go an entire game without striking out, then see how many games in a row he can go without a strikeout
  3. Could it be that he is more comfortable pitching from the stretch than the windup & that the change in delivery impacts him? What does his delivery look like?
  4. If Polanco's arm isn't good enough to play SS, how on earth could he play 3B? Doesn't a 3B need an even better arm than SS since their distance is so far across the diamond?
  5. Except don't the Twins supposedly have a good scouting department? If that department is already excellent then you could afford to go with a GM that is good in other areas where the Twins may have some weakness, such as analytics, FA contracts, etc.
  6. After reading this ESPN article I like the idea of hiring Kim Ng.
  7. I don't like the idea of keeping Suzuki beyond this season. He should definitely be traded right now while his value is higher. Centeno seems somewhat adequate with the bat, and while his defense seems to be lacking, hopefully John Ryan Murphy can be called back up & provide at least hit better than the Mendoza line...
  8. Hopefully Molitor will bench Mauer now for the rest of the season and only play him sparingly. Early in the year there was so much talk about his new Nike light-flashing glasses, I guess they have stopped working, or else an opposing pitcher snuck into the Twins clubhouse and stole them from Joe's locker...
  9. I like the idea of selling high on Nuñez. Hopefully this is a sell high time for Dozier too, due to his recent hot hitting streak. Hopefully the Twins can trade him before opposing pitchers make an adjustment & send him into another prolonged slump.
  10. So, what's wrong with him? Has his approach at the plate changed? Have pitchers changed their approach? Different combination of pitch selection & location? Different defensive shifts?
  11. What is the 10 and 5 rule that would impact Mauer? I doubt he would be selected in an expansion draft at this point in his career so I'm not sure why he would need to be protected...
  12. Why do the Twins manage to play two good games when they're on the west coast so the games are played in the middle of the night?? So frustrating!
  13. It sounds like there is an overall need for more creativity. Be more creative with lineup construction based on analytics. Be more creative with contract structure to sign high upside players to deals that reward them very well if they perform, but limit liability if they don't. Be more creative in hiring decisions to go outside the organization & sign a more diverse staff. Be more creative in strategy of signing players from the draft and internationally. The one point made in the article that really caught my attention was about player contact in the off-season. Perhaps this already happens, but I'd like to see the Twins have a specific plan for each player during the off-season. There may be goals relating to conditioning, weight, strength training or other exercise related goals. Or there might be baseball related fielding goals such as better routes on fly balls, improving decision making on throws back to the infield, working to improve first step speed, improving fluidity for double plays or others. Or perhaps there are specific hitting goals such as improving strike zone recognition, learning to lay off more breaking balls, taking the ball the other way, pulling the ball more, hitting less pop-ups, etc. I'd like to see a plan laid out for every player under contract for the next season at all levels. The goal should be to make the players better through these plans. Then the Twins could help the players accomplish their goals by providing resources to them as needed.
  14. Chargois has only pitched 17.2 innings between AA & AAA this season. It seems a bit premature to be anointing him as the savior for the Twins bullpen with so few innings at those levels. He only has 5.2 innings pitched at AAA. If he reaches 20 innings at AAA and still has such great numbers and a K/9 > 9 then he should be called up and given a serious look at replacing Jepsen in the highest leverage situations. But, 17.2 innings isn't enough to say he's MLB ready...
  15. I like the idea of Polanco getting more playing time. Dozier should be sent down to AAA until he figures out how to hit again. I don't care how much experience he has or how much he's being paid. He should learn humility and accept a demotion to AAA where he can face inferior pitching and figure out how to hit again. Let Polanco start every day and 2B and Nuñez/Escobar at SS and Plouffe/Sano at 3B. It would be nice to see Sano playing 3B at least 2 days per week. That would allow the Twins to get Arcia more playing time in the OF. It would also be nice to see less playing time for Danny Santana. Can Grossman play adequate defense in CF? He looked pretty bad on a deep line drive in last night's game, missing it & slamming into the wall while the ball ricocheted away. Let's see a starting lineup of: Polanco 2B Mauer 1B Park DH Sano RF Arcia LF Plouffe 3B Nuñez/Escobar SS Grossman CF Centeno C
  16. This is an interesting comment. Before Sunday's Spanish broadcast Tyler Duffey was the pre-game interview. He commented about how in his previous start against the White Sox he had pitched pretty well, but in the end he gave up more runs than the White Sox pitchers and the Twins lost. He said that it doesn't matter how well he pitches, all that matters is getting the W at the end of the day. It seems like he has that attitude that you are looking for in the Twins players.
  17. How does Buxton's demotion to AAA affect his service time clock? I'm not very familiar with those rules... Does anyone else find the C names confusing? Between John Ryan Murphy, John Hicks & Aaron Hicks we have a funny duplication of names...
  18. Abad has been a surprise. But somewhere I read a comment by someone that indicated that his stats look better than they realistically are because of how he's been used. I don't know that much about how he's been used, but it was an interesting comment nonetheless. I hope to see him continue to excel.
  19. I'd hate to see him turn into another Carlos Gomez or David Ortiz, a player that the Twins gave up on for nothing before becoming a star.
  20. Hmmm... ok. What about batting him 2nd then? It just seems like there are so many first innings where the first two batters make outs & then Mauer singles. It seems like it would be better if he were batting 1st or 2nd in the lineup so that he would be getting on base before there are two outs.
  21. Any talk of batting Mauer leadoff with his high OBP?
  22. Interesting option for players. What happens if the players decide to retire early or get hurt? Then is Fantex just out the money?
  23. Can you get this SD/MD data for the bullpen for last season? I'd be curious to see what it shows for a full season of the poor bullpen performances that we witnessed. I don't really know how to use Fangraphs to search for data... Thanks!
  24. Will the Twins send Buxton to try a SB here?
