  1. As has been discussed for years, it's very concerning. It's a good reason to keep a guy like Granite around as your 4th OF. He can step in and play very well on defense while Buxton is resting or on the DL.
  2. Hildy had a much higher ERA than Busenitz, why so little consideration for Busenitz?
  3. What a great article! Thanks for sharing your perspective!
  4. I think a lot of the calls for change are due to a fan base that is frustrated with the losing. I haven't seen much out of Molitor to make me a fan, but I can't say that any of us fans know enough to really question his decisions. There are a lot of decisions that I don't like regarding how he manages his players and the game, but I also don't know enough to judge. I would like to see a more analytical approach overall. If Molitor is embracing the math when it comes to his lineups, player use, pitcher use, etc, then good. If he's resisting the math then it's time for him to go. I also agree with the other comments about the importance of the hitting & pitching coaches. I'm not sure Allen is a good fit at pitching coach for the Twins.
  5. I was surprised that Escobar didn't go with "caballo" for his nickname jersey. I was disappointed that Dozier isn't using "Bull-dozier" like was the nickname that appeared here on TD for him last year. I really liked that nickname.
  6. Maybe they can trade him too!
  7. Radio broadcasters are generally pretty positive even when things aren't going well, but boy was Tony Oliva ticked off when Pressly gave up the game-tying double. After getting 2 strikes on curveballs Oliva was really upset that Pressly didn't throw any more breaking balls the rest of the at-bat until he had a full count where he threw one down the middle. He was ranting & raving about Pressly's poor pitch selection for what felt like an eternity. It was strange to me because Tony Oliva usually seems to be overly optimistic about Twins players and how good they are.
  8. Others teams, like the Dodgers and now Boston with Price, are using the 10 day DL to give players a break or rest when they're slumping. Why the heck haven't the Twins put Polanco on the 10 day DL as a way to send him on a "rehab assignment" to AAA to help him get things figured out?
  9. Wouldn't the Twins want to keep Rosario if they think his improvements are sustainable & sell if they think it's a mirage? If you don't think he'll sustain this level of hitting you trade him now to a team that thinks he will sustain his level of play. If you think he will sustain his improved level of hitting then you keep him.
  10. The defense is concerning. I hope he's able to get it together.
  11. It seems to be mentioned by practically every visiting team radio broadcast when playing the Twins.
  12. With Polanco's struggles I'd kind of like to see him sent down to AAA and let Escobar start at SS for now. It seems redundant to have both Escobar & Adrianza on the bench. Exactly! I really want to like Rosario, but he's frustrating to watch quite often. I hope he can get it together. Thinking back about some of his history (like his suspension a few years ago) I feel like he might not put in as much effort as other players do. I worry that the Twins will get frustrated with him & trade him, just to watch him become a perennial all-star with another team.
  13. I think the basic truth is that no matter what the Twins do there will be lots of unhappy fans who wish they had done something else
  14. I agree. I'd like to see how they do at AAA before they come to MLB. I think between Santana, Berrios, Mejia, and Gibson the Twins are doing okay right now. Gibson is showing some signs of stopping the nibbling and just pitching. I believe that Santana is good enough to figure out his recent struggles and get back on track. Now the Twins just have to get rid of Santiago. Does Santiago have options left where he could go down to AAA?
  15. Haven't the Twins announcers been saying this too? I know I've heard it from Tony Oliva in the Spanish broadcasts.
  16. Escobar seems like a really nice person and a positive influence on the clubhouse. Hearing about the work he does in the community makes me like him even more. I understand the valid reasons to try to trade him now, though. I hope that he has success in his career, with the Twins or elsewhere.
  17. Are the labels reversed on the Rosario graph? The paragraph says "He’s also playing out of his mind on the road this season." However, the chart shows his home OPS is way high this year & his road OPS is low...
  18. To add to my last comment - Rosario seems to be rather lazy on defense. He seems to have a fiery attitude and is aggressive, but he also gets lazy on more routine plays. I feel like there are times where he jogs slowly after a hit which can allow a smart runner to take an extra base due to his slowness to get to the ball. Kepler seems to move much more quickly chasing after balls that have already hit the ground, whether it's charging in on a grounder or running back to a ball off the wall.
  19. I've liked Rosario since his amazing start with triples and outfield assists a few years ago. However, last season & this season have disappointed me. I really question how well the Twins know how to reach their young Hispanic players. I also question how well the Twins do with having a team psychologist who can help the players. I think Rosario has a lot of untapped potential that the Twins are missing out on. I'd hate to see him turn into the next Gomez, Hicks, or David Ortiz, a player with huge potential where the Twins fail to provide the needed coaching, counseling, or whatever is needed to help him realize his potential.
  20. Isn't one of the big challenges in doing this determining who has options to send down, who can slip through waivers, and who is on the 40 man roster? If the Twins call up one of these youngsters and he is worse than Belisle, Kintzler, et al, they are going to want to send the rookie back to the minors and stick with the failing veterans.
  21. I think a big part of the decision rests on if you think Santana's success is sustainable. If you believe he can continue to pitch like one of the best pitchers in the AL for the next two months then you keep him so his value keeps increasing. If the analytics says that he's pitching better than his ability then you trade him now before a couple bad starts diminish his value. The old FO under Terry Ryan seemed to be terrible and buying low & selling high. I hope the new FO better understands this topic.
