  1. I am enjoying reading this thread a lot more than the threads about how there was no way he could ever play SS, in spite of him having done so for years. When is Polanco bobblehead day? I want one.
  2. There isn't much point in sending Gibson to the minors.Give him more time, move him to the pen, or release him. Sending him to the minors is a dead end and a waste of time.
  3. How? He was signed at age 22, has been at A+ or above since 2010, and was added to the roster in 2012.
  4. Several lessons to learn here: Sinker ballers are either good or terrible with not much in between. Lesson for front office: don't sign a sinker baller unless you have the other four SP slots settled. (Granted, Gibson now goes way back in the org, back to when pitching was better. But when the wheels fell off he should have been made available to trade.) Lesson for Molitor: Always put your best defense out there with a sinker ball pitcher on the mound. Definitely the wrong day to have two backups in the OF. May want to stick Sano at 1B on these days while you're at it! Lesson for fans: As bad as he has been, one has to show patience with pitchers like this. They tend to be terrible for long stretches. As much as some of you want to throw him under the bus right now, in reality all pitchers like him need a bit more time. I would only be concerned if he still has not turned the corner in another 2-3 starts. Cooler weather could be affecting his movement.
  5. Molitor did not do Gibson any favors yesterday by not having his best defense out there for a sinker ball pitcher. Still, it looks like the writing is on the wall for Gibson. It's still a tad early to pull the trigger, but it seems likely he will be done as a starter by June.
  6. "Rank of FIP in the league" isn't how you would see if the team pitching will get worse. The other teams can pitch better and the Twins would still fall in the ranking. Let's look at the actuals. ERA 3.18 FIP 3.97 cFIP 105 DRA 3.75 DRA (starters) 4.02 DRA (relievers) 3.31 cFIP is showing that the Twins are within the 95-105 range which is considered to be average talent (though they are at the bottom edge of average), but most teams in the league are far worse than average right now. Yes, the Twins "rank" will fall as other teams improve, but they Twins pitching might not get worse. FIP, DRA, and ERA are off but not really by that much. Looks like the problem is with the starting staff and this will be a shock to exactly no one. We all know the team has four #4/#5 starters
  7. But he is pretty darn good as a reliever so far, so why are you writing him off as a reliever? There's a false premise here that starters > relievers. Good relievers are a huge asset.
  8. In 2015 he was pitching after the roster expansion, no? So against a mix of AAA and major league players? One would expect a 2-pitch guy to be decent ~2 times through the batting order. If I recall correctly, this was the case last year. With a small repertoire, one has to put more strength into each pitch. One isn't going to last as long through the game. I think the smartest move is when you find a reliever who can swoop in with his superman cape and shut down the opposition, you keep him in the pen. Esp. on a team with such a shaky bullpen.
  9. This thread is getting strange quickly.
  10. We'll never learn to stop overreacting to small sample sizes.
  11. Garver's bat is on fire. The other candidates are injured, coming off injuries, or not playing all that well. However, I don't know that this move needs to be made until the guy they truly want in the majors is ready. That's probably not Garver at this point.. As the pitching is starting to show its flaws, they may as well hold pat.
  12. Before we crown either Santiago or Castro as Totally Awesome, let's let the sample size grow a bit.
  13. Tonight there's no game tonight

  15. When you put a player in the right position for him good things happen. Who woulda thought?
  16. "A well-placed source said Tuesday afternoon that representatives for Fox and O'Reilly have begun talking about an exit." http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/18/media/bill-oreilly-fox-news-exit/index.html
  17. What you are saying with "he has never put it together for more than a few week at a time" is he's a #4/#5 pitcher and not a #2/#3 pitcher that we have him at now. Agreed. If his current performance is the same in 6 weeks, he will be gone soon enough. But he needs the chance to resume his bottom-of-the-rotation form.
  18. Hicks' batting average has dropped 50 points and his OPS dropped 200 points since the time this conversation started. We just have to wait 2-3 more days and we'll be back to the Hicks we all know and love. Nothing to see here.
  19. Sure. But what's the alternative? Just give him up now without knowing?
  20. Gibson has always struggled in April and he has always done well in May and June. The doom and gloom for Gibson is premature. Wake me up in 6 weeks if he is still having trouble.
  21. This is surprising. His struggles are not new. He overcame his struggles before, even if for only a little while. He can overcome them again. No need to be depressed about Buxton. He is still lost at the plate (which I expected) but he is even better defensively. He is providing value, just not at the top of the lineup. The Twins should have kept the pressure off and kept him 7th or 8th in the lineup until he got into a groove, but he will get over it.
  22. Yes, I can see that. And what I'm telling you is that's a mistake. In any case, he is a young player and there is no need to panic. And, by the way, I don't see anyone panicking.
  23. At this point they gotta just let him play. Expectations are low on the season anyway.
  24. It's not week three. It's game 151 and just over a year of official service time. I agree that it's far too early to worry about a 23 year old kid, but let's not pretend the sample size on him is 3 weeks. It's biased statements like this that create disagreements.
