And a Bailey like deal is way too much for this guy (and was too much for Bailey too). Sure he is having a good year so far, in 50 IP. But his FIP of 3.06 is much worse than his 1.60 ERA. Over 608 IP, he has a 3.98 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Someone is going to get ripped off here, let's let someone else by all means.

Well, Santana has 3 hits in 6 at bats. No errors in two games. I have seen enough, cut Pedro and Nunez and lets move on and get a normal looking roster.
I think that speaks more to how un-coachable Delmon was. We had him from 22 to 26 or so and he was still un-coachable. So keeping him in lower levels and trying to change his approach at 19 or 20 was probably not going to work. He knew it all and that is why he is on track to be a hall of famer and not a bust.
Kohl Stewart (19 years old) – Low A 25.2 IP, 2.35 ERA, .78 WHIP, 23 K Mark Appel (22 year old) - High A, 13 IP, 6.23 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 13 K Jon Gray (22 years old) - Double A ,29.2 IP, 3.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 32 K
Speaking of professional, my favorite Dick and Bert moment was when Dick said to Bert "they called you captain hook, I presume it was because of your curveball". Bert said "I sure hope so" and then they giggled and could not say a word the rest of the inning.
The guy that is really impressing me is Kohl Stewart. I didn't really expect a great year as he is just out of high school and has not played year round basebal before. his 6 K per 9 is not great, but 2.81 ERA, 4.9 Hit per 9, and 2.81 K to BB is much better than I expected early on.
Maybe this is another thread, But given the way we manage our roster, aren't we going to always be at a disadvantage against the likes of Boston, Oakland and Tampa Bay? Guys like Meyer, Sano, and Buxton will make the team better, but if we have a guy like Hermann over someone that can platoon and improve a weak spot on your team or give you a good PH at bat at a critical time, over 162 games won't that always hurt this team?
We were also told to expect better framing. I would think that would create more strikeouts. Our guys should be getting more called third strikes and be ahead in the count more often. Hughes is at his normal k rate and Gibson and Nolasco are down.
Morris misses the point. He is supposed to interrupt comments about the game with stories and tidbits. Not interrupt his stories and tidbits by updates on the game
He Gone. Speaking of Hawk, this video took a second to load but trust me, it is worth it. From outright screaming, to literally saying nothing when the other team hits a HR or steals base. http://awfulannouncing.com/2013/the-hawk-harrelson-meltdown-compilation.html
I think Rick's standing in the league has been benefitted from the Twins drafting and developing philosophy. For years I believe the niche we found was drafting pitchers with good control, because they were "undervalued" and would never command huge dollars, i.e. we could afford them. So Rick had staffs year in and year out that put up pretty decent numbers without many huge names. Ultimately, as many or more players have left and been more successful than have found more success here. Which is a way to evaluate a pitching coach in my opinion. I also think Anderson gets the credit for Johan, when it was Cueller who taught him the change up.
I think Gibson's ERA is a mirage at this point. His ground ball rate is 48.8%, below even last years 50.3%. If he is going to succeed in this league that number needs to be much higher. He is striking out 4 per 9 and walking 4 per 9. Neither of those are good. Given that 52% of the balls hit have been fly balls, his zero HR allowed seems a bit lucky, as does his low .273 BABIP. I am high on him in the long term, but he has not pitched anywhere near that ERA to this point. Closer to his xFIP of 5.06. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10123&position=P Nolasco seems to be the victim of bad luck. His ground ball rate of 48% this year is quite a bit higher than his career 42%, yet his BABIP of .342 is quite a bit higher than his career .308 (odd). His xFIP of 4.60 is much closer to his career ERA than his current 5.82.
You guys are downplaying the likelihood of our catcher getting hurt and the horrors of not having a DH for a few innings in that scenario. I know it is not going to happen, but could you imagine if it did?
I usually agree with Keith Law, but I have a hard time buying that Meyer is not an upgrade right now over Pelfrey if he comes back to the rotation, or KC.
From the perspective of needing to put Meyer on the 40 man, I think it makes sense to use someone else for spot starts. Now if he comes up here and we find out he is only average because his change is not effective and he could use a little more time at AAA, then by all means send him down so that when he is up here he is the most effective pitcher he can be.
Here is a mock from bleacher report yesterday. Rodon, Kolek, Aiken, Beede, then the Twins taking Gordon. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2049801-2014-mlb-mock-draft-latest-1st-round-projections-one-month-from-draft-day#articles/2049801-2014-mlb-mock-draft-latest-1st-round-projections-one-month-from-draft-day/page/2
I agree Hermann serves no purpose. The better question is, why does Gardy have any say over the 25 men on his team? Or does Terry think without a 3rd catcher he won't ever DH Punto, which would hurt the team? Or does Terry actually see value in having a 3rd catcher? I don't know the answer, but all options are scary.
This is more common in little leagues, the rally killers come up and you know the inning is over. The difference is, anyone that signs up gets to play little leagues and this is the big's.
My personal opionion, no way will the Twins bring up Meyer prior to the Super 2 deadline. Buxton's late start and Sano's injury make super 2 next year a real possibility for both. As far as the players union, we have been down that road before (Perkins). But it is very difficult to prove so the Twins will win.
