  1. Respectfully, Rosario has been an extra base hit machine. He has shown enough pop to hit double digits in HR as well as a gap hitter with speed. 2010 - 17 XBH in 64 games. 9-3-5 2B-3B-HR 2011 - 41 XBH in 83 games. 10-10-21 2B-3B-HR 2012 - 65 XBH in 136 games. 44-4-17 2B-3B-HR 2013 - 59 XBH in 172 games. 36-10-13 2B-3B-HR 2014 - 31 XBH in 87 games. 20-3-8 2B-3B-HR His average is .285 in the minors, with last year really dragging that down. .280 might be somewhat lofty but not out of the question
  2. Regarding the needing power in a corner OF, I think in 1-3 months this team may be screaming for better defense out of the corners and Rosario very well might be the prescription (like more cow bell). So I think it is a bit of a trade off. If the guy hits .280, 15 HR, 35 2B and provides an additional CF in the corner, that replaces a DH out there....I think it is a good trade off. The question is how much does someone like Arcia need to outhit Rosario to accept the defense?
  3. Mike Trout (traded during spring training for Brian Duensing and a utility infielder)
  4. Interesting about the k's. May had 8.67 per 9 last year with the Twins. Higher than Ervin (8.2) and Hughes (8). Obviously better than Ricky and Gibson. His biggest competition will hopefully be Meyer. Just a matter of innings.
  5. I think we should get used to May's up and down performance. In 2012 and 2013 when he ended with an ERA in the 4.80 and 4.50 range, those were skewed quite a bit by a few bad outings. In 2013 he had two starts with 8 ER each, and another two with 5 ER.
  6. I am surprised he is lumped in here as a starter candidate. I am guessing he is firmly behind Meyer, May, and Milone. Likely, gulp, Pelfrey as well.
  7. Here is a scouting report on Wimmers on draft day. They had him as a mid to back of the rotation starter. I would rather aim higher with the 21st pick. I think Garza was taken #25, fastball that runs mid 90's. A guy like Garza can develop the third pitch at 22, but the same guy isn't going to pick up speed on the fastball. It is easy with hindsight, but philosophically I just think you can sign #4-5 starters on the free agent market. Will you overpay? Of course, but we can afford those guys, we can't afford #1-2 starters.....so we better be drafting them. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/02/14/alex-wimmers-scouting-report
  8. Not to mention, you typcally are going off sometimes as little as 30-40 IP...so walk rates have a very small sample.
  9. We should be able to keep Cerrano at bay with breaking balls.
  10. A few other points to note. Last year was Meyer's worst from a BB per 9 perspective. His control was not on anyones radar a year ago. He was also tinkering with a new pitch, which he developed mid-season. One could conclude that could hurt his control (no data exists for minor league pitch fx data by pitch type). Lastly, (cue me beating a dead horse), but he ended with a 3.52 ERA. He led the league in K's and gave up only 10 HR. So a lot of those free passes did not score
  11. Kind of on this topic, I would like us to give the job to the guy we think will be the best in june. I don't want a typical slow start because we made a decisions based on options or scholarship, then bring up the guy we know is better in a month. We have waited four years to watch good baseball.
  12. If all I need is a shirt, where did he get it?
  13. I think the odds of Meyer becoming a top pitcher are higher than Arcia being a top hitter. Those big pitcher contracts are a lot riskier as well. The twins have been a lot more patient with pitchers than they have hitters, I believe cost control is one reason why.
  14. Seth, I think the Meyer/Arcia comp is misguided. Meyer is a potential ace and boras is his agent. Arcia does not have the upside or the same agent Do you not think the twins factor in service time and control into these decisions?
  15. I don't see any team in the division sniffing 100 wins. If anything the division seems as balanced as it has ever been with no real good team. This reeks of many in the 77 to 85 range to me
  16. Seth, I am likely more cynical than you. But you give Meyer a month or more in aaa and I think some in the twins brass get giddy about delaying him yet again. The temptation of him needing to work on something could arise.
  17. Regarding liriano, I would argue he probably had the best slider in the game and a plus plus fastball, before tj. After his slider was probably the only plus offering and even that was on a lower level than pre tj. I saw a classic game last year. Hitters were missing his slider by a foot. The heater was 97. Man.
  18. He defnitely through a lot of pitches, but he was on a pitch count of about 80 a game for most of the season. That played a role too.
  19. Yeah, he may miss a day or a month, who knows. But he will miss the tune up and I would be more worried about his overall health and the $70M they owe him from ages 36-40.
  20. True, in the sense that Detroit's #3 is better than the Twins #3 last year.... But when scouts say #3 starter, I am guessing we are talking 3.90 to 4.30 ERA. Something in that range. I think Meyer could be much better than that over time.
  21. Towards the end of his career, even my Mom used to say "he better hope he hits it over the wall"
  22. I guess I wasn't following the "when healthy he can pitch", given how limited of a sample size he has had of success over nine years, and the relative mediocre-ness of that success.
  23. I tend to very much prefer having talent in the rotation. One more shoulder injury may have me tinker with his mechanics to limit the shoulder issues. If that doesn't work, let it rip in the pen.
  24. I am not blown away by the two years. We are going back five and seven years to find the good years. Two of his nine in the big's. That was in the NL and pre-TJ.....and his FIP/xFIP numbers those years were a very non-earth shattering 3.96/4.45 and 3.82/4.31.
