  1. Welcome back Fanatic Jack. The Twins are only making it harder on themselves by not adding at least one SP by now. The Jeremy Guthrie deal set the bar very high for the mid level SP on the market. Anibal Sanchez will probably be a $15M pitcher now. Good luck pinching pennies Terry Ryan...
  2. Oh, so now you're saying they're spending too much and really going out of their way for payroll? Everyone should be thrilled with what they spend and feel lucky we have such generous owners? So what teams beside the Marlins for the obvious choice keep their payroll under 50% of revenue? The 50% of revenue would be perfectly acceptable if the paid for their own stadium and didn't force taxpayers to help the pocket so much money every season. I just can't wait for the day when the Pohlads are no longer involved with the Twins.
  3. The Twins are thankful that the Astros are coming to the American League so Houston can take over the title of AL doormat.
  4. The Twins signed Boleska right after the season. He was the closer of the FM Redhawks this past year where he put up some crazy numbers. And he's Canadian. Seth, any chance you know any Pirate bloggers who are big time like you who could shed some light on Tom Boleska and Tim Wood for everyone?
  5. I am wrong to say that I am pretty sure Hellickson is a Boras client? That pretty much defeats the purpose of trading for him unless you plan on dealing him after a couple of his arbitration years are through.
  6. Does anyone have any news on the second relief pitcher the Twins signed from the Pirates? Is he a hard thrower or what does he/can he throw? Nothing like taking the AAA & AA closers from the Pirates to try to fix a poor system. You never know Tim Wood and Tom Boleska seem to both have decent K/BB rates as closers. [h=1][/h]
  7. so who are the other 5 guys that don't deserve to be on the 40 man roster? They better make a move for a decent starter before contracts like the one KC just handed Guthrie drive up the market for the other quality arms. One last thing do you think they will draft a hard thrower who can actually throw strikes in the Rule 5 draft?
  8. So how about instead of a time machine theory how about spending some big money to get someone who can actually scout and evaluate players so we could draft better. Throw some insane money at the scouts of Tampa or San Francisco, just the first 2 teams I thought of that always seem to develop young talent.
  9. My problem with Bedard is his history of injuries. Unless he signs for around $2M or so we will be going to Rochester for replacement just like last season.
  10. Erik Bedard would not be a good fit.
  11. I have a couple of pitchers that would be good additions to the rotation on the cheap. The first one would be Roberto Hernandez(aka Fausto Carmona) and Brett Myers. If the Twins could somehow pull off a James Shields or similar type of pitcher to be the ace you could have a rotation of Shields, Diamond,Hernandez,Myers and possibly Kyle Gibson. That would be a great improvement over last seasons staff. Or I would try to find out what it would take the Dodgers to trade either Chris Capuano or Aaron Harang who would fit into the back end of the rotation. LA has too many starters and would be willing to deal a starter for some minor leaguers. To fix 2nd base I would like to see Kelly Johnson.
  12. I was confused that this was the wrong posting. [h=2]Article: Twins Should Follow Marlins Bold Lead[/h]
  13. Time for good old Bud to go away if he continues to let the Marlins pull this crap and trade away all their talent 1 season after the taxpayers paid for that ugly stadium. This is like a fantasy baseball trade that would be shot down in an instant. Time for Bud Selig to resign and let someone fix this league and move the Marlins some place where people care about baseball.
  14. So what would Terry Ryan need to give up to acquire Ricky Nolasco? I am not sure if he makes much sense but since Miami is giving their team away again it might be smart to jump on some of their talent before someone kicks their sorry butts out of MLB for pulling this fire sale crap for the 3rd time.
  15. Just waiting patiently to hear what happened with that 3 YR deal. Anyone else have any scoops about the Twins FA signings they would like to share with everyone? Mine is somewhat realistic, Twins sign Joe Blanton to a 2 YR $13M deal with a club option for a 3rd year. This would not be the top pitcher added by the Twins this off season.
  16. So when is Thrylos gonna come clean and tell everyone he was just guessing. Dude has got to say something to try and save a little face on this deal...
  17. If they would have signed better pitchers they wouldn't have called up all those "quality" arms form Rochester. Obviously no decent pitcher is going to sign before Zach Greinke signs his deal. by looking at the free agent SP there are about 15-20 good starters to choose from and the Twins need to add 3 arms by either FA or trade. So I guess the best thing to do is sit back and do nothing until after the Winter meetings and then we can have another season of disappointment...
  18. So we wait and save our money and bottom feed for a couple of starters? Jason Marquis Part II?
  19. So we should wait until December to sign a player who will be on the active roster?
  20. Is it just me or is Terry Ryan confused on his GM responsibilities? I know all teams need depth but enough of trying to turn Rochester into a winner and focus on signing someone with a pulse. Samuel Deduno, Esmerling Vasquez, Tim Wood and Eric Fryer? Maybe his next move will be talking Corey Koskie out of retirement to give Trevor Plouffe someone to challenge him...
  21. So how hard does he throw? Kinda odd to say a guy throws hard and no mention of upper 90's or anything. Throws hard by Twins standards means he can reach low 90's and that is not much to speak of.
  22. Good grief, give the 20 game winner stuff a break. Exactly, It's not like you have to be a great pitcher to win 20 games. You can just be very lucky and get a ton of run support and not have the bullpen screw you over too much. You could easily have a pitcher win 20 and have an ERA close to 5 and does that make him a good pitcher? No.
  23. I know this was posted before but I could not find it. Anyways, which Twins minor leaguers must be added to the 40 man roster so they can't get claimed in the Rule 5 draft. I am just a little curious on how many spots will be open to add some much needed SP.
  24. Yes, An opening day starter for Rochester. He is not ready and no reason to rush him. Let him prove himself at AAA before being called up.
  25. It should be how many seasons would Joe Mauer miss if he was hit in the head...
