  1. Well, Wimmers needs to be on the 40 man or will be a minor league FA this offseason. I think they want the major league coaches to get a look at him, or maybe they want to reward him for his years of struggle by getting him some MLB money and pension and healthcare (or whatever they get). I'm not sure leaving him down or calling him up affects his development at this point.
  2. I don't think aiming for 2017 looks like a necessity anymore.......I'd be happy if they could just accurately identify an actual good MLB pitcher in a trade.....even if that guy was 2-3 years away. That would be a nice baby step.
  3. I don't see anything wrong in their handling of Garver, so far. If he's not up in September, and catching 1/3 of the time, then I'll question their handling of him. But up until now? I think they've handled him well, and it's clear he has worked hard to get better. When he makes the majors, it will be a nice success story.
  4. Congratulations. Many of us are pulling for him.
  5. Gary Sanchez is a MLB starter, not a prospect. He is not being traded.
  6. I can't see Rogers as a MLB starter. He is finally in the right place, imo.
  7. I don't know what people expect, in terms of a rebuild, if you are unwilling to trade the older players to get more prospects. That's what rebuilding teams do.
  8. Mauer is one of the best hitters ever, in terms of BA and walks. The criticism reads a lot like the Votto criticism. To the person who talked about war and ops.....ops is not an advanced stat at all. It is not in war. Has anyone looked at the stats in context of era, other than war? He did pay in an offensive time, mostly. My issue with Joe isn't really with Joe, but those on both sides of the love hate gap that have no nuance in their emotion. He isn't some awesome god, nor is he a devil.
  9. I don't agree. These coaches can gather lots of data about watching players....in practice, in the clubhouse, on the bench, on the field. I know hearing about a co worker is different than working with one.
  10. My plane has an engine leak....hope the mechanics did well in training....
  11. It is the process rebuilding teams follow. He is a free agent in two years, as stated above, if they are not using that money on Sano, Buxton, Berrios, or other young played, keeping him probably did not matter because they are likely bad. If you never trade your good players, you are closing down one way to get better.
  12. I am now on the trade him side. Bad teams need to trade good players to get younger good players, imo. The Cubs are built on trades and great high picks. The twins seem unwilling to really rebuild.
  13. There are nine spots every day....so either they figure out how to rotate players, or they bench players. So far, they are benching players, so Plouffe and Mauer can play. For a terrible team, that seems like doing the opposite, imo.
  14. So, just bench the young guys you need to learn more about? So you can win, what, this year?
  15. Mauer isn't a bench player by 2018? Hmmmmm. I will take that bet.
  16. Must have been in part you didn't quote, my bad...... So Polanco shouldn't play 2B at all? Mauer shouldn't sit some so Vargas or Park can play some 1B?
  17. I don't disagree, but they have guys that have to be on the 40 man next year, those guys will get called up mostly. Do you sit them, or sit the veteran that you have years of data on?
  18. did you read my whole reply? No place did he call for Vielma...... They are probably calling up a Catcher, should he sit, or Suzuki? Why play Escobar or Plouffe in September much if Vargas, Sano, Polanco are all here?
  19. Well, he didn't call for that, did he? He said old veterans don't need to play in September, so the Twins can gather information on the young players that will be called up. If you think playing Santana or Grossman helps this team this year or next year, we won't agree. They have to add both the AAA and AA catcher to the 40 man this off season, why not call one or both up and not play suzuki? I mean, if you are going to argue with someone, argue against what they actually said...
  20. It does seem odd that Polanco only played 2B all year....when they have Dozier...and he's out of options...and he seems like a legit hitting prospect that you'd want to keep around.... I would have had him in LF and CF and 3B and 2B. From here, it is hard to see the plan for how Polanco and Dozier co-exist.
  21. Wining is the only thing that will fix attendance at this point.
  22. And, you go to more games than you otherwise would because of that? you buy more tickets? how many tickets do you think the Twins sell because mauer is on the team, at this point?
  23. Ya, taking advice from a movie character..... You realize that high strikes are the strikeout pitch, right?
  24. Don't you need a closer look at guys on the border, than guys that are future stars? You "know" the stars will be here, but it's the edge cases where you need more data.... Do people think Mauer is adding butts to seats anymore?
