  1. I still think 90 or so is about right, maybe 87. In that range. But, you can see how they lose 100 again, I just don't feel that is likely.
  2. Thank you. I've been trying to figure out an analogy that helps with understanding the context of the decision is as, or more, important, than the actual value discussion. I also like, for those that think anyone offered in a trade must not actually be a good prospect: When you go into the grocery store, do you assume all the produce is rotten, because they are willing to sell it, rather than eat it? Though, I don't think it works as well....the point being, players are assets, and you need to best use those assets. Some days, keeping them is the best use. Some days, trading them is the best use, even if the trade is not totally fair....
  3. That last line isn't true. I needed cash this month. I had stock that I felt was going to go up. I still sold it, because I needed cash. Decisions about assets are made in context, not in a vacuum. Arguing that Dozier should not be sold for 80 cents on the dollar, w/o taking into account the context of the entire system and Dozier's contract is, imo, a mistake. (and, I am not arguing you are stating otherwise, btw). It's like an NFL team that has three starting caliber QBs, but the worst OL in football. Keeping the three QBs because the offers aren't "fair" isn't going to lead to many wins, because sports are team events.
  4. thank you for answering. I have my doubts about 2018, but I am not w/o hope. So many of their hitters can't actually hit, that scares me. Can they get better? Sure. Will they? I hope so. As for the pitching and the manager, sigh.
  5. Sorry....how many losing years should we expect in a rebuild? And, when did they start?
  6. better faster than the old one, that should have been clear to someone that wasn't making assumptions about my intentions. criminy.
  7. I didn't say it was business as usual, I pointed out that in the past, and so far now, they have not traded veterans for good prospects. I never once said that the new FO was the same old same old, you inferred that from something I never even implied. One can be disappointed in the Twins, and hopeful that the new FO moves better/faster. At least I can.
  8. ok...how many losing years should I expect in a typical rebuild? I mean, if it isn't unusual? No idea why the Twins didn't start sooner, that has been one of my criticisms of the past GM....
  9. As a fan, I don't really care......the Twins have failed. I am hopeful the new regime is better. But, they have two real assets, and both look very likely to start the season in MN. that might work out, it might not. I was talking about the rebuild, not just this FO......clearly I am not holding it against this FO what happened before, and to imply otherwise, sigh. I am holding it against the Twins though....
  10. the Astros looked a lot smarter before the rebuild kicked in, imo.....
  11. If they aren't, the team is doomed anyway, probably.
  12. Well, Mark Appel was pretty much done by the time he was traded, let's hope they Twins don't do that.... It is an interesting list, but you can see quite a few where there were multiple people in the trades.
  13. let's hope you are right, and they sign a huge FA (like they did back when they signed Jack Morris, also not under Ryan.....).
  14. Sign Buxton and Sano to large extensions would be my guess.
  15. Agreed, we have no idea. But you think the Twins outbid someone for a TOP FA? It's possible, is it likely?
  16. Or how the Twins will outbid the other teams.
  17. Next year, when the FA market is good, they will sign some good players, I assume, based on all these comments...
  18. I agree, and disagree. I think they are clearly doing that, but that doesn't preclude them making trades or signing FAs, imo.
  19. You expect the A's, Reds, or WS to give the Twins a top 10ish or better pitching prospect? I can't see that happening. The Reds will be rebuilding, the WS are in their division, and the As are unpredictable. I can see the Mets doing that, but they have Gavin Cecchini who should be up this year or next. I bet they roll with him.
  20. Gordon is the SS next year, don't care this year. it sounds like we agree Dozier needs to be traded, and yes, I have looked at De Leon, and yes, he makes me nervous......but Berrios makes me nervous, every prospect makes me nervous. But as either Theo or Friedman pointed out, if you are always rational, you always finish third in FA bidding (and, probably don't trade a lot either). At some point, you trust your scouts. I have no idea what the offer was, nor how they feel about De Leon, but if they think he's a legit 3, I do a 1:1, let alone whatever else was offered. My disappointment (that's the word, not anger, not "they are idiots") stems from 5 years of the Twins not trading (or badly trading) veterans during a rebuild, when every other team seems able to make those kinds of trades and speed up their rebuild.
  21. Again, how do you know you can get at least a top 10ish starting pitching prospect in the future?
  22. I'm responding to the posts, not to what the FO did. And, no, not acting can be out of fear. There are two sides (or more like 6-8) of what would cause someone to act, or not. You can be afraid to trade for a prospect because, as the poster said "they bust all the time", and want to keep the more proven MLB player. If that wasn't clear, I hope it is now.
  23. I'd argue the Twins absolutely need to trade Dozier, because he does nothing for this team this year that matters in terms of wins and losses, and he's only signed for 1 year beyond that. Also, he blocks Polanco, who will now play SS, a position they have not really let him play in the minors for some time now.....
  24. by this argument, why fire Ryan, if they are done rebuilding? I couldn't disagree more strongly. They have no 3B long term, no 1B, no C, 1 SP, and maybe 2-3 RP. Their LFer walks less than your average 90 year old. And that's assuming Buxton learns to hit, and Gordon and Polanco are legit every day players. I think we'll just disagree on this....which I'm cool with.
  25. Why take it at the deadline, if not now? And how do you know that? And fine, if you won't trade for a top 10ish pitching prospect, that is MLB ready, out of fear, you aren't making many trades. And, KLAW loves upside. Other sites have him ranked higher.
