  1. mike sixel 1:07 The Twins seemed to over draft (under slot) all three guys. Assuming spreading 200K around on lesser players doesn't really matter, what's their plan, do you think? Eric A Longenhagen 1:07 Heard they were on other Boras advisees during last night's selections but nothing came to fruition. Lewis is a Boras guy, so maybe the Twins are doing some math together with Scott and we'll see them show their work today? They're picking now. 1:08 Blayne Enlow, RHP, St. Amat HS (LA) 1:09 #33 overall on my board, chance for plus fastball and curveball, had one of the better max curveball spin rates measured on the showcase circuit (2700+ rpm) Reds take LHP Jacob Heatherly, Cullman HS (AL)
  2. I'd feel a lot better about the pick if they stopped talking about his personality, and talked more about his ability to play baseball....
  3. MaineBall 12:48 Who has the highest ceiling of the remaining players? Eric A Longenhagen 12:49 If either Riley Adams or KJ Harrison can catch and tap into their power, they're beasts. Both have huge question marks about those particular skills, which is why they're still on the board. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/eric-longenhagen-prospects-chat-mlb-draft-day-2/
  4. from today: Scruffy-Looking Nerf Hurler 12:30 How does Royce Lewis compare to the other top SS picks (namely Correa, Seager, Manny and Lindor) at the time of their respective drafts? Assuming of course he stays at SS, which doesn't seem like the case. Eric A Longenhagen 12:32 Agree with you that Lewis isn't a SS. Doesn't have Correa's power projection, nor Seager's, nor Machado's. Might have a similar offensive profile to Lindor, but not a SS for me, let alone an elite one. I think Lewis is a really good player, but not the franchise-altering talent that all these other names are. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/eric-longenhagen-prospects-chat-mlb-draft-day-2/
  5. That Leach scouting report Brandon posted reads a lot like Kohl Stewart's report. Let's hope they both work out!
  6. He'll be a lot closer to 26 than 25 in three years. Let's hope he hits, I think he has a legit shot. the difference, is that HOF type great players don't get their first taste at 25 or 26, as a general rule. Of course, expecting (even wanting) such a player that late in the draft is unrealistic. The real question is, how much projection does someone that age have, most of the time. I think we'll know a lot about their plans by where he starts and ends this season.
  7. The Rays have been amazingly successful given their limited resources, in the hardest division in baseball. They'll pay him slot, he'll get to leave in FA in a few years to go where he wants. There are much worse places to end up, imo.
  8. Other than MANY scouts and pundits said both McKay and Wright could be in the majors next year, I agree.
  9. I posted a link to that yesterday. Check fangraphs, or I will post again. It gets random faster than people think.
  10. Sigh....Shopify and NVIDIA are now on sale. Sigh.
  11. No one used the word sucked, lots of people are saying skeptical. And, they did offer McKay, he declined the money, so I don't get that part of the post at all.
  12. Buxton was considered 1 or 2, Lewis was number 5 by pretty much everyone. Lewis doesn't have much of an arm, from what I read, Buxton had all 5 tools. I don't doubt he'll be a top prospect at all. But, it's not likely he'll be as great defensively as Buxton, so he'll have to hit like a real baseball player. That seems "probable" at this point, if that can be said of any HS player. I have my doubts about any pitcher being good, unless he's universally a top 20 talent. That's just the odds. Obviously, I don't scout these guys, so I can only go off what I read. What I read doesn't scream "no doubt" on this guy. I have used the word skeptical over and over, not failure. I have also said "I have my doubts", not that I'm certain of anything. Overall, it's not what I would have done, nor does it seem to make sense to many here.
  13. Agreed. If they get that, I'll be thrilled. I have my doubts right now, but it's certainly possible. I vastly preferred Wright or Gore Greene or even McKay there. They NEED pitching. There were two very good to great college guys sitting there, and two awesome HS guys. That's the route I would have taken.
  14. How? They eon't sign big time FAs, will they? So, trade prospects?
  15. I can conceive it, yes. But I am only judging them on their actions so far. That's all we can really do.
  16. What's different? They chose a toolsy HS OF/SS. That's EXACTLY what they did in 2 of the last 5 drafts with Buxton and Gordon. They then chose a HS pitcher not from the US, just like with Berrios. The only real delta is Rooker, so far. I guess I just don't see the delta that you are seeing.
  17. Epstein chose the top college hitter at number 2 and 7 (or whatever), not a HS kid under slot. Right? That would have been McKay this year.
  18. Based on what do you think the Twins will promote a guy to the majors in under 2 years? All the fast promotions this year? Also, these are the SAME scouts, right? It isn't the "previous regime". It is the same scouts. Also, this FO chose this bullpen, right?
  19. Very low. It's somewhere around here, maybe round 4 or 5, where it is random.
  20. Based on how fast they've promoted players this year, do you really believe this will happen?
