  1. There are still ads appearing over the reply box about half the time on my phone....I realize some of you may see that as a feature....
  2. Why no? That's what free agents are, expensive adds to winning. The alternative is the owner pocketing the money.
  3. And then they will be a year older, and if they made good, you'll have to sign them to s long term deal. Why would the team be good doing that, but not signing someone to a long term deal this year?
  4. You'd rather they give up part of the future pipeline than money?
  5. Ya, but just wait, the next year will be great, and then they'll spend money!
  6. Why would Dozier stay if the front office does not add to the roster? It would be out of character after last year. Also, eSan sand Pineda are of the roster after 2019.... How do you plan to fill those spots? People need to look at next year's list of free agents, and so themselves if any are better than Lynn or Cobb.... And they won't be cheaper....
  7. To your question about competing for a wild card.... 1. Progress is not linear 2. Other teams have added players 3. They barely won a spot last year. Imo, getting Darvish, or Lynn or Cobb are moves to increase the odds significantly, this year and for three or four more. Passing on them all, including Arrieta? Imo, Dozier leaves as soon as he can. And the team does not win a WC spot this year, or probably next without a lot of luck.
  8. how do you propose he prove it, if you don't let him get ABs in games?
  9. If Garver is the backup catcher, he probably will almost never be anywhere but catching or the bench, imo.
  10. It's not likely the division will be this weak again.....Det and the Sox will graduate players this year and next. I have no idea if they can take down CLE or not, but they should get a huge edge in the unbalanced schedule this year. It is a good year to take advantage of what they have been given, imo.
  11. Ha, how did I forget that? Idiot..... and ya, they aren't getting Buehler, that's a dream. I'd have to go look at their lists again to see what I'd want....oh well.
  12. If the Twins won't or can't sign Yu, I would explore this opportunity to help LA do so. I would want Buehler first, but I would take Calhoun and two low level players. Then I would try to flip the low level players and some of the Twins existing guys for a pitcher. Calhoun has good DH written all over him.
  13. Matt Kemp can't hit either. And he is super expensive. They would trade him for anyone
  14. no one is disputing that.......but no team is built w/o FA or trades, well, no winning team. At some point, you have the money, you spend it or pocket it. The Twins aren't going to develop their way to a championship, or much of anything else, this year. They have no one in AAA that is ready to come up in the first half, and no big time prospects in AA or AAA that look likely to dominate this year. Again, no one is disputing that players a team develops are cheaper, and more efficient. No one.
  15. especially if you hold UNH.....and NVIDIA as your two largest holdings.....whatever. I don't need that money for years. I hope.
  16. There are no young alternatives in AA or AAA right now. If there were, I might agree. But, they are all left handed, or they don't exist.
  17. I'd take my chances on 3/50 over taking 18......
  18. Ouch.....today is a good reminder that I actually need a job.....
  19. I don't like any of those choices very much.....and I'd prefer someone that can do something other than have a bunch of HRs, but nothing else at all (no defense, no running, no OBP.....those guys offer nothing, imo). I'd roll with Grossman and / or Vargas for now.
  20. If Dozier was mad last year, and they don't sign a big time FA SP, I see very little chance of him wanting to stay. I could actually see him asking for a trade, if the FO and ownership don't acquire pitching. I know if I was him, I'd want to move on in that case. As for the Twins, IMO, they can more easily replace Dozier than they can find/develop starting pitching. I'd probably let him walk, depending on his price, and what budget I have to work with.
  21. The delta between AA and AAA is really big. The delta to the majors is really big. He could be the 200th best pitcher on the entire planet right now, and still be a AAA/AAAA/RP type, and not a starter in the majors.
  22. Eric L of Fangraphs has said in the past he thinks Wade might be a starting OF...
