  1. It's not my wish. My wish is he's great. Most players turn down trips to the minors, if they can. I think my realistic scenario is he says no, and difficult decisions need to be made. These are hard decisions, no doubt. But, I can't see a path where he is suddenly good. So, I agree, if he'd go to the minors, I'd do that. If not, I'd let him walk and take my chances on Santana and Gonsalves and Slegers being better.
  2. I didn't say they were old. There is space between old and young. These aren't numbers I made up, all you have to do is read fangraphs or follow one of their former writers on Twitter. Or, run the numbers like I did. They aren't young. They are about median. The Red Sox have five regulars 26 or younger. Including a 21 year old, for example, but no one thinks of them as young. I ran the numbers. I read others that did the same. It's a fact, not an opinion. The other teams are not stagnant. Many of them called up young players since the start of last year. The Twins have not added any young position players in the last two years. That's not a criticism, it just is.
  3. To those not wanting to add a great catcher.... Where do you see the team adding players in the next three years while Sano and Buxton are here? Where do you see them getting better? Realmuto is controlled for two years it this one. He's no rental.
  4. Gordon is a top fifty prospect on several lists, before this year's start. He's not a mediocre prospect. And, how do you know someone is giving up a top twenty five prospect for him? Maybe they will, but maybe not. I would add Garver and another mid prospect to that offer, like Thorpe. Get a low A guy from Miami with high variance.
  5. The Yankees and Red Sox players that age don't seem to need time to warm up. Why should the Twins get this excuse? They aren't a young team.
  6. Every year people worry any the forty man, and every year they leave a ton of guys unprotected. And that's in the off season when teams are looking to add players. I'm not worried.
  7. Of course I'd keep him if he agreed to go down. I don't know if that is realistic.
  8. certainly possible. I hope they aren't doing that......I feel the worst for Molitor and Hughes' teammates, followed by Hughes, followed by the FO, and not at all for the owners....
  9. I can't believe Hughes couldn't get in earlier, nor that he only pitched one inning. What is his role, other than "we are paying him a lot, so we ahve to keep him", exactly? Adding a minor leaguer in his place increases payroll by 500K or so a year.....
  10. why not give up on him? Slegers or Gonsalves literally can't be worse than unwinnable as starters. Why not cut him and move on? He's shown no improvement all year. If not now, how many more starts like this until you would move on?
  11. Some of us were calling for Realmuto before the season started.... This isn't just reactionary
  12. Maybe they should have planned better to have players with options. I would have. But they are filled with veteran pitchers without options.
  13. There is no evidence that limiting innings growth prevents injuries.* If he pitches well, he should stay in the rotation. Unsure about a six man rotation. I'd probably move Lynn to the bullpen, but I wouldn't disagree with a six man rotation if they go that way. *The verducci effect is bunk. And no, we aren't taking about going from ten innings to two hundred.
  14. I agree, but if you can't get on base, it has less value to be good once you do. There is still a ton of hope, he's not exactly old. But here's just not a good enough hitter so far, alas. Great defender and base runner.... Not even a meh hitter yet.
  15. Couldn't disagree more. Teams are fast tracking these guys like crazy these days. I'd move him to high A right now. Then see what it looks like in the early fall.
  16. And all the times he failed to get a hit are cancelled out? The slash line tells a pretty accurate story. Imo.
  17. They aren't young. Mauer, Dozier, Morrison, Castro, Escobar.... And it isn't like Rosario and Buxton are in year two of being MLB players. They aren't even in the top ten in being young. The Yankees and Red Sox are younger, on offense, for example. They just aren't good enough. That said, trading for an actual hitter would be helpful. What position would you replace? You aren't getting a first baseman or DH. Or a second baseman, or third, or outfielder....
  18. Realmuto is a great short and long term solution. They won't do it, imo. I have been asking for this for months, but I don't see it happening. As for what happens when Castro gets back? Well, include Garver in the trade, and you don't have to worry about it... Gordon should have been up when Sano went down. They didn't do it. Can't see it happening now. Wade should have been up when Buxton went down, they didn't do it. Pretty unlikely it happens now. I'd guess none of those is happening soon. That leaves just going with what they have and assuming it gets better, for now.
  19. Tough call. But I think I do in a tie game. Otherwise no.
