  1. Colorado is back in the hunt.....I really want Jon Gray. Wonder if Lynn, Dozier, and Rodney (and taking back part of a bad contract from CO) would get it done? If not, I'd do Gibson and Dozier....
  2. all time history. They could lost 110 - 120 games this year. All time bad teams. Not even really competitive at all.
  3. I'm conflicted on Gonsalves. On one hand, he's been pretty good. On the other, ignoring the stat lines, not sure he has great stuff..... Rooker has no defensive position, I think that's part of why he's not higher ranked, like some want. Sometimes it's like defense doesn't matter at all for some people in prospect rankings.....so he's probably in the right spot, if not high, frankly. Too early to say on Lanarch, but FG has him higher on the Twins' list, so it's not insane to have him here....
  4. My focus is on not pushing the goal posts all the time. There are times to rebuild, and times to go for it (especially if one believes medium markets go in cycles). Either we believe in Sano and Buxton, or we don't. But if we wait for perfect information, it will be less likely to be successful, because we have not added talent around them. And if we to find out they are bad, and didn't trade Gibson at his peak, we lose value. So, pick a path that isn't the "play not to lose" path, that dooms mediocre teams to stay mediocre. It's not totally fair to say my focus is next year, actually. I'd be ok if they sell off Gibson and Odorizzi...but then play the young guys and get them up here....to gather information and get them more ready for when the window is real. I'd also be ok if they decided to trust Sano and Buxton, and traded for Realmuto and signed the 2-4 best FAs they can next year. I have my doubts about that plan, but I wouldn't kill them for it.
  5. Mauer is 28th among 1B in offense this year....how does bringing him back make them winners? he's not good anymore. And, I thought we were discussing next year's team. Sure, if they can find someone that will help a lot past next year, sign those types....but that won't help next year at all.
  6. Kepler or Romero (once they call him up) are my guesses. And, they are pure guesses.
  7. I too would have Thorpe higher, if I had a list.....he's certain to be a MLB player of some kind
  8. how so? I mean, I'd rather get fifty cents than nothing.....
  9. I got what you were saying,, not what ewen21 was at all in terms of the topic of the thread.
  10. no, I'm literally saying we don't know how healthy he'll be in the future, and giving ESan as an example of how it isn't always so easy to predict the future as we think. An example.
  11. I'm suggesting we don't know if he'll be "fully healed" or not. He probably will be, but until he's playing, we don't know. I'm also suggesting that even if he is, he's not likely to be as good as he was 2 years before that.....
  12. I don't know what it had to do with who the suitors for him might be.
  13. Ervin Santana was supposed to be ready by May 1.....and Castro isn't young, exactly.
  14. I think MILW is looking for Kyle Gibson or Lance Lynn more than Brian Dozier....but I could be wrong.
  15. The Dodgers show, imo, one of the issues with "efficiency"..... Sure, they have more / better prospects since they didn't trade for Dozier, and spent less, but to what end, exactly? What could have been last year, or how would this year already be different, if they had acquired Dozier instead. IMO, it shows how efficiency should not be THE measure of every decision for a MLB team. It's not like they are short of resources....but they are of 2B.
  16. Have you looked at the FA list for 1B and SP? Good luck with that. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html
  17. money sure, but people here all the time say no to players that age....that's why I'm asking the question. I would....not sure everyone would be.
  18. ramos is 30 and Grandal 29.... Are people good giving three year deals to catchers over 30 at the beginning of the contract, at 10-20MM per year?
  19. only worrying about the future is a good way not to ever have a present, also. I don't think anyone is saying sell the whole farm. I don't think anyone is saying sign every FA, or trade for a guy that is only here this year. I'd guess that once they "know" if Buxton and Sano are good, no 2.5 year elite player will be available in the time that they "know" that. So, you are then trading real assets for half a year, most likely, and we'll get to read about how that's a terrible idea. Which I know, because I've read that here over and over.
  20. They've shown no desire to add elite position players in FA or trades either....so I'm not sure how that matters. I'll ask again, where do people expect this team to get A LOT better in the next two years if you won't trade for players?
  21. As a reminder, the FGs guys like Jeffers a lot more than some others did, and had him 77th overall. They also had Sands 78th overall. If FG is right, using those picks that way was impressive.
  22. You and I have talked about him from the beginning! So yes, I was. Thanks, as always, for your awesome work, sir.
  23. It went down for "meh" players....but there is no evidence it is down for good players. Having money, and winning bidding wars is very different. They spent a lot, but NONE of it was in the bidding war zone at all, which is maybe why they are "meh" for the most part.
