  1. get's my vote: Can't stop laughing...
  2. thanks for jumping in the debate - I am more bullish than you on Pelfrey this year - there is another thread somewhere (or check the blogs maybe) which does discuss the possibility of any of those three guys being claimed from waivers - the overwhelming consensus is that yes each of them would be. Howie, you actually make a good point - a month here or there in the context of the past season or two probably wouldn't make much of a difference.
  3. So are hot dogs, ask Babe Ruth.
  4. I think that is the age-old question. The Cardinals have what every other team wants, because they developed their own guys, so they have all the leverage. They can jack the price up higher than a Danny Santana-- it would take Buxton or Sano or more, to pry a Shelby Miller from them. Yet we don't need other team's prospects. We have our own. Gibson should have pitched in the majors last year -- he was twirling complete game shutouts in AAA Rochester last spring. In my opinion, over the past half dozen years, the Twins have forgotten the balance balance between getting a guy seasoning in AAA and teaching him to pitch in MLB. Gibson doesn't need any more innings at AAA and Meyer hopefully doesn't dwell long in the minors before being called up. Many people here will disagree though.
  5. 1. Arcia = 30 2. Mauer between 15-20 3. Willingham = 15 (traded at deadline) …Sano will have a handful Puckett went from 4 to 31 in one season, although he was a little older than Arcia at the time, but it's spring so why not hope Arcia explodes!?
  6. A great topic of discussion now, but I can't imagine what the disappointment must have been like.
  7. I am a lot higher on Worley. Than you. Like Gibson, he is also coming off an injury, and many posters on the TD discussion boards are saying he is not eligible to be sent down to AAA -- sometimes I check myself but sometimes I just take their word for it. So I predict either he wins the 5th slot in spring training, or it is given to him. If he pitches poorly he goes to the bullpen. He is still young. My question is how he has maintained the K/9 rate without an elite fastball. Also it has never made sense to me why a homer doesn't count against a pitcher's BABIP but who am I to challenge SaberMetrics
  8. Thanks tank, I'd like this thread to reach 200
  9. Hey.. didn't mean to touch a nerve. I can't judge Puck and wasn't thinking in terms of off-field stuff. I am a huge Mauer fan. (And I can now add Mauer to the list all-time best roommates) I'm not sure exactly what about my opinion was "insane".. Mauer's teams have done nothing to validate his great numbers. The pennant races are tons of fun, they are why baseball is worth caring about, but the playoff flameouts kind of throw cold water on all the work that came before it, don't you think? I have a real hard time just telling myself "the Twins have zero playoff wins - them's the breaks!" The Yankees were a downright mediocre playoff team those years. Anyway, I think Mauer would be the first to tell you that statistics and awards mean very little unless they contribute to some sort of championship run (I will include 2006 just because that was so special). This is an era of 33% participation in the playoffs so anything can happen, I expect the Mauer story is not yet complete.
  10. Seems like there's about 37 different questions being asked and answered here: who is the better player? Who is the most valuable player? Who was best leader? who is the most skilled player? and so on. In terms of pure physical gifts, Puckett or Killebrew can't possibly be considered among the top 10 Twins, but Mauer is definitely in the top 3. In terms of the value/leadership he has provided to his team in making a run at a championship or whatever, Puckett and Killer are probably 1 and 2, and Mauer might not make my top 10 list. Not knocking him, but team wise, aside from 2006, he just hasn't been a part of anything special. There you go - another guys opinion
  11. Revere was banged up all year and then broke his foot in July. I think a concern in philly is that he's a guy who just throws himself around and can't stay healthy -- which is not really what we saw here. Anyway, he is entering his prime and is too good in center field to not have a starting job somewhere. Levi, you only get one greater than sign.
  12. Which gets back to the corner outfielder that brings no offense to the lineup. Though he does turn the occasional single into a double. I like Revere and hope he can hold on to the leadoff job in Philly but the Twins made a good move with him.
  13. I loved Revere's speed and highlight catches, but he just didn't have the arm that Hicks has. The trade for Worley will look good pretty soon. (Still not sure why Revere was ever put in RF, but whatever.)
  14. Has he said who won the 5th starter spot yet? j/k
  15. Willingham does need to have reasonable expectations. According to the article, Hammer bats much better when he's playing in the field as opposed DH-ing, so that's another concern.
  16. Glad to hear Deduno is pretty much healthy -- I missed that. Not sure his style translates well into the bullpen so I don't think he's a candidate for the pen like Worley and Diamond might be. Also, it's a good sign that Worley has come to camp with a different mindset this year. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
  17. I'd like to get Justin Morneau's opinion on this.
  18. I also think Diamond and Worley would be claimed but I just don't see room for both on the roster. If Gibson pitches great this spring, it would be wrong to send him to Rochester just to keep one of those guys around. We'll see. I get the sense that they are already planning for Deduno to live on and off the DL all year.
  19. You are right. Antony did seem to imply that there were some unknown "other guys" who put us in those early 3-0 deficits. Everyone knows we have been bad. Our pitching is retooled, our offense will still struggle, try to play some good D, and we have some good prospects almost ready. No need for the FO to spin anything this spring.. Overall I thought it was a good article for people who don't inhabit TD.
  20. Whew ... glad I wasn't the only one who got a jolt reading that quote...
  21. A nice story, very good signings. As a sometimes critic of this team the past several years, I'm much happier this year and willing to give the players, coaches, and FO much more leeway now. But this stuck out: Over time, LENIII has really insulated himself imo and does no favors to his cause by running this quote. It's almost a parody to me, and I know many others, that all Gardenhire can say about a player anymore is that he "gets after it" and "battles" so I'd really have preferred LENIII was aware that this quote was almost a self caricature of how the coaching staff is performing right now. That's my perception anyway. Would be happy to be proved wrong this year. Out on the practice field the conversations are much different and much more technical than in a sound bite. I'm sure Anderson had much more intelligent stuff to say and that LENIII just wanted to work Redmond into the story somehow. But this quote just resurrects those old concerns that players struggling through slumps are mainly being told to "keep battling" and that long-tenured coaches like ours are no longer adapting, need a long break to clear their heads and come back to the game fresh. Anyway, those are one person's thoughts. I'm excited about Nolasco and the new rotation, am optimistic this year, and ready to eat up news stories about the Twins again.
  22. Jeter's retirement is an interesting little wrinkle, no doubt. That the Twins might find themselves in the FA shortstop market the same year as the Yankees. I'm curious to know if this changes any minds on Drew, one way or another. I'd still say no thank you to Drew, roll with Florimon for '14, re-assess in offseason.
  23. Bottom of 9th, Game 7, lead-off single… how big is that!?
  24. The next person who tells you Jeter was the best Yankee to ever play the game, or even in the top 5 or 10, unless they are the teenage girl, tell them "Uff-da" in reply. I do think that would be overrating him. First ballot HOF though, absolutely. I don't watch the sports shows either so no idea what they are saying.
  25. Well, he was also a great New York Yankee. What do I mean by that? Not exactly sure - it's just that extra something he brought to the team beyond his offense and longetivity. His #2 will hang nicely among the other single digit Yankee numbers.
