  1. Is the commissioner familiar with the steroid era? Perhaps batting averages are below their historical pre-1990s averages (.260 or so), but I don't know if offense overall is down. His top issue should be replay reform I would think?
  2. Still a great guy in the clubhouse, I bet.
  3. I do think the "in two years" promise has largely been media-fueled (looking at you, LENIII). Still, it wasn't unreasonable a year and a half ago to expect that Alex Meyer and Miguel Sano would have been top contributors going into this season. Sano's setback was a bummer. With Meyer they need to just send him out there, rather than wait for the perfect moment to present itself.
  4. thanks Thrylos. It's good to get a little reassurance.
  5. R.I.P. 97 mph fastball What is the back story on this? You and many others had this guy highly rated.
  6. Another question is: which of Hughes, Nolasco, Santana, or Gibson moves to the bullpen when Meyer is promoted into the rotation?
  7. On MLB I'm seeing all of the Boston base hits basically saying "line drive to Oswaldo Arcia in left"... Can anyone fill in the blanks? Are they ropes or is he not making plays? Just curious.
  8. Because once upon a time, Stauffer was a first round pick...
  9. Did we win the World Series last year and I missed it?
  10. I think moderate Republicans will need to send a courageous sensible Republican candidate out onto the presidential campaign trail to take the bullets. And support that guy to the very end. And then send another moderate out the next time around. Guys like Pawlenty or Mitch Daniels had a real chance to defeat Obama in 2012, but those guys had no hope in the primary season. So my opinion is that moderate Republicans created this beast, and they will be the only ones who can put it back in the cage. Otherwise this clown show will go on indefinitely.
  11. Well, I count 7 out of 7 properly spelled words, so this one might have some validity.
  12. Makes sense that they might not want Burdi to push too hard and risk injury in his first spring training. So they tell him he's starting the season in AA and he should just get acclimated and enjoy himself.
  13. Me too. He's made a decent income playing a game he loves. I've got to think he was allowed to start these games as nothing more than a professional courtesy. He was never going to win the 5th starter job this year. He might find success in the bullpen and change his tune.
  14. Do the teams really bring so few players on these road trips? Just trying to learn
  15. I just glanced at the MLB play by play but thanks for the extra color. I will try to ask this delicately: but was Hicks removed from the game as part of that mid-inning double switch that put Escobar in the outfield?
  16. "promises not to stay past the end of the season"
  17. actually Ryan's original quote in 2012 was something like "you just can't get a pitcher of Meyer's quality for as cheap as a starting center fielder in his prime, unless the pitcher is still in A ball" So there's that
  18. Good article. Though a bit ironic, considering the UZR/saber-skeptics all concluded at the end of the article, that it was Delmon Young who passes the eye test. Delmon Young.
  19. Scott Elarton (to arbitrarily pick a name)
  20. My recollection is that it was the Twins front office who was hyping Meyer in the first place. They traded a pretty good center fielder and lead off man for Meyer. Again, obviously Meyer will get his chance, and both sides of this whole conversation will become moot. Yet for some people, the fact that Meyer continues to be held down in AAA is just more evidence of the wisdom of the Twins front office. Someone help me get my head around that.
