  1. lemme guess... something to do with the number 100
  2. Also tying an MLB record (if you think about it)
  3. Somebody updated the wikipedia page already?? probably an anonymous user in India
  4. I feel like I have "Dǝjɐ ∀n" all over again! * * deja vu
  5. Putting guys like Bartlett and Escobar in the outfield is not fair to them or their teammates. Escobar had that horrible misread in Cleveland about a year ago. Apparently Molitor and Ryan think that was his big mistake he can learn from to get better. Time will tell. Escobar might get better in left like Santana did in center, but they are both still infielders.
  6. For our next trick, Riverbrian will stand on his head
  7. First of all, are we debating a technical point on the same side, or are you arguing the other side that teams won't view Gardy as qualified to manage again? Some have been saying that Gardy has a much better reputation nationally than locally. I agree with that completely. I did a quick review. Unless a team is grooming their own internal candidate, I think Gardy is the most appealing guy available, and I don't think it's close. Leyland and Larussa are done managing. Davey Johnson has declared he's done. Dusty Baker is done. Other guys like Ozzie, Valentine, Ron Washington have some pretty heavy baggage. Guys like Manny Acta and Kirk Gibson never really got any traction. And so on.
  8. Hunter has had two 3-run jacks that have decided ballgames. How awesome is that? But I have no problem with people holding his feet to the fire in the outfield. There was never much question his bat by itself improves the lineup. And as long as he continues making the plays in the field as he has been lately, he'll be an extremely valuable player.
  9. I'd like to see where Molitor bats Buxton when Buxton is called up. Maybe Hicks should have batted 9th until he got traction--which he never did. Alex Rodriguez (to make an interesting comparison ) batted ninth for a log time when he was new to MLB. Partly because he was like 18 years old but also just to take the pressure off him and let him get acclimated, I bet. Also, I think shortstops were still considered glove guys who batted 9th, but A-Rod was always going to be more than just a gold glove, too. (Like Buxton.)
  10. Not as contradictory as it sounds. The same people who argue for the significance of SSS in evaluating postseason performance are not the same people who downplay the significance of SSS in postseason performance. (With the usual "lots of people in the middle.") There are a lot of big market teams making early playoff exits like Gardy did, but Gardy's agent will argue that the Twins didn't have the firepower of these bigger teams. Which is anywhere from partly correct to completely correct, depending on your POV. Another thing to think about is that a typical manager contract is 3 years. Yet Twins fans probably think of manager gigs as lifetime appointments and think "no way" Gardy will be offered that anywhere else. And of course he won't. But I definitely see a 3 year deal in his future.
  11. This team looked miserable at 1-6 but they've played at .667 now over a sample almost 3 times as big as those first 7 games. I'm still concerned about the outfield, and it would be nice to see Meyer be a part of this (in the bullpen) but yeah, it does feel different than past years.
  12. I was afraid you might not get that
  13. bat-girl must be lurking on TD somewhere

  15. sorry I missed it! EDIT: (sorry I missed the Dozier play, that is) (not the star wars night) SECOND EDIT: (though i liked star wars) THIRD EDIT: (just not enough to dress my dog and cat up and walk around the neighborhood)
  16. For having songs stuck in your head... you could do a whole lot worse than Luckenbach. I salute you folks
  17. The sad thing is, someone saw that stance, and their first thought was "That man will be a manager someday"

  19. Gardy is not managing this year because he is still drawing a paycheck. And a year off will charge his batteries. I could easily see one of those big market teams interested in Gardy. If LA takes another first round exit, Mattingly might be let go. Yes, Gardy's postseason record is a red flag, but given the SSS nature of most baseball analysis these days, a poor postseason record can be easily explained.
  20. Well if KC wins the division—and they look like they're for real—that will leave at least two underperforming teams right here, in Detroit and Chicago.
  21. How does this comment square with Hunter's vocal opposition to gays?
