  1. I come at it from the opposite angle. That it's the Twins brass letting Molitor do his thing. Falvey and Levine seemed pretty proactive at the start. They dumped Plouffe, tried to trade Dozier, and named Trevor May a starter. These are all things I was in favor of, though I did not care for the signing of Breslow. Then when the good will of Twins fest wore off and spring training started, it all seemed to fall apart. Almost like when they met the extended family, it was like the scene in Moneyball where Brad Pitt walks into the draft room with all those old scouts. Except Falvey is the nicest guy on the planet and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. So he just turned most of the decisions over to the "old baseball men" one last time. Conspiracy theories beat the alternative, which is that Falvey is so incompetent at putting together a roster that he forgot to bring another player who can play first base besides Mauer, that there are 13 pitchers but two backup middle infielders on the active roster, and Danny Santana is the fourth outfielder. That is brutal and a recipe for failure.
  2. Well, yes and no. Mostly no, but who ever knows. At least some of us are trying to make sense of this debacle! Better to guess that there are things going on behind the scenes than to appraise this as reasonable roster making.
  3. I am impressed and actually a little encouraged they didn't let go of any pitchers yet, but the explanation doesn't hold as far as position players go.
  4. I'm not dissing you the poster for relaying Reusse's opinion. It just doesn't wash. In other words, Molitor did his best to convince Falvey to DFA Danny Santana, but Falvey refused.
  5. I doubt it. Reusse is just trolling at this point in his life.
  6. So confused.
  7. When does a decision get made on Kennys Vargas?
  8. Unless somebody is throwing a knuckleball there, there is less blur on that pitch to Kranson than the picture of Buxton running the bases.
  9. Does it get submitted on a certain day or what lots of speculation here and i've lost track
  10. meh. I prefer "effectively wild." And let's be honest: does throwing strikes and lousy pitching correlate somehow with this team? Because Twins pitchers have usually been known for keeping the walks down.
  11. oh Vargas is playing? He'll be with the big league team Opening Day then, I'm assuming. The TD writers gave the impression he was starting on the DL.
  12. I would say Duffey. Or any of them not named Pressly.
  13. My bad - I think I got that confused. I don't have a problem with keeping Haley or keeping Park down. With Vargas hurt, seems like putting Park back on the roster would be logical regardless of how low their opinion of him is. We know Park can play first base and hit homers and apparently he's popular in the clubhouse (actually liked by the players, that is). As it is, without Park, the Twins lineup is unnecessarily constricted and inflexible. There is guaranteed to be games those first 10 days where a little more flexibility would make a difference. Makes no sense.
  14. That's an artful line by Souhan, but I don't see how Haley displaced Park at all. Do you? You typically have 13 position players and 12 pitchers. In terms of whittling down the roster to 25 at the end of spring, I see those two groups as separate. If there is something intriguing or compelling that forces your hand, then maybe you go to 11 or 13 pitchers, otherwise 12 is just about right for MLB these days, even for teams carrying a Rule 5 pitcher, which is uncommon but not that uncommon. It would be nice to see data.
  15. Having a different pitch caller might also help.
  16. That makes sense, though the Twins should have insisted on Pinstrips or maybe the old baby blue unis for the color scheme It's only a matter of time before a young kid takes a sip of his dad's Bud, makes a sour face, cries, and becomes irrepairably harmed for the rest of his life and a lawsuit ensues.
  17. I saw a corn-potato bowl on Facebook that looked good. What's the deal with Budweiser in Coca-Cola cans?
  18. That may be true, but consider this: Middle infielders going north: Dozier Polanco Escobar DanSan First baseman going north: Mauer
  19. Right out of a Cormac McCarthy novel. (note to Hicksie: run for your life)
  20. This is what gets me, particularly with the middle infielder situation.
