  1. Ok, so Mauer isn't worth $23 million anymore. But what if he maintains his hitting and fielding at current levels (or close to), stays healthy, and then after 2018 arranges to come back on a year-by-year basis for say $1 million per season? Would Mauer be overvalued or undervalued then?
  2. Beeker pitched on May 19, in a 9-2 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Cedar Rapids trailed 3-1 when Beeker left the game after the seventh. His pitching line: 7 IP, 4 hits, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO Beeker retired 16 of the final 18 batters he faced. However, it is the second straight game he has allowed multiple home runs. His next start is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, versus the Clinton LumberKings.
  3. Beeker pitched on May 13, in a 7-5 win over Bowling Green. Beeker's line: 6 IP, 6 hits, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO Beeker pitched well. Cedar Rapids jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the bottom of the 2nd inning, and Beeker allowed just two runs on four hits through the first six innings. A light hitting catcher hit his second home run of the game off of Beeker with two on base in the bottom of the 7th, chasing Beeker to the showers.
  4. Back on May 12, Tyler Wells was placed on the 7-day Disabled List. His stat line up to this point: 34.0 innings, 27 hits, 10:45 BB:SO. Good for a 2-0, 2.65 ERA in 6 starts. More on the injury. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported a shoulder impingement (link), while the Twins Daily Minor League Report from May 12 reported biceps tendinitis: " ... Wells was placed on the 7-Day disabled list. He said that he’s been fighting a bit of biceps tendinitis. He noted that it didn’t affect his velocity, 'just discomfort.' He expects to miss just one start... " Link.
  5. No, but perhaps this balk-y image of C C Sabathia will tide you over http://i0.wp.com/usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/screen-shot-2016-07-21-at-12-42-24-pm.jpg
  6. My bad - I thought this was the game thread.
  7. I suppose we could ignore DanSan's Atlanta stats, since neither Vargas or Escobar are going anywhere any time soon (though as a big Esco fan, I fear he may not survive the season either, provided we keep Dozier and given the play of Polanco and now Adrianza)
  8. fwiw the Twins are 6-3 in games Hughes started to now
  9. Sure, maybe, but pretty much every pitcher except 2014 Phil Hughes could stand to tighten their command a little, so I didn't put as much into those words as maybe I should have.
  10. Very possible these things do happen. Something similar might have happened with Meyer who actually pitched pretty well in 2014 in Rochester but never got a call up. In hindsight it looks like Meyer was not as good a prospect as Berrios, and I'm just glad that the front office got Berrios up before his window closed.
  11. And there sure seems to be pretty strong evidence that some in the organization did want Berrios to remain in the minors for a while. Most of us are glad that clearer heads prevailed. I still remember the main reason Berrios started in AAA was to stretch him out.....
  12. In fairness, Provus is great and ventures into sabermetric territory when he can, but I absolutely love everything else about this question and answer.
  13. I wonder who it was in the organization who thought Berrios should still be in the minors for a while. Glad Berrios is finally here. All in!
  14. Liked! Both the original, and the edited post! Homer Simpson and 1992 City Champs likes this
  15. and Blackmon coming up again. Asking for trouble.
  16. Out of the game and back to Rochester!
  17. Poppen pitched on May 17, earning the pitcher's win in a 7-4 victory over Peoria at Perfect Game field in Cedar Rapids. Poppen's line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO Poppen also hit a batter. Per MiLB, Poppen was spotted two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the top of the second began with a Peoria batter reaching via an error. Peoria then scored the 3 runs off of Poppen on four singles and a sacrifice fly, three of singles being called ground balls, per MiLB. There was also an outfield assist at second base to help Poppen out of the inning. His Poppen's top line in 7 starts is now 2-1, 2.38 ERA, with a BA-against of .240, WHIP 1.10, and a 8:44 BB:SO in 45.1 innings
  18. Berrios getting a little peacocky out there. Keep yer bearing, buddy !
