  1. The Yankees have Rob Refsynder who is a pretty good prospect at 2nd and is ready to play at the mlb level. I would think that he'll get a shot this year. Trading Dozier this year seems a bit early. I would wait and see if Polanco is busting down the door next year with his bat, but not good enough defensively to play SS. I'm not sure if I like Gary Sanchez as a prospect anyways. There are a lot of questions about his defense at catcher.
  2. If they can't work out a deal for Lucroy they should do it. I wouldn't give much up though. Ramos has never even put together one good full year for the Nats since his rookie season. Plouffe has more value by himself if you ask me.
  3. Tyler Jay sure has accomplished a lot for a 16 year old
  4. In the interview I heard with him he said that he does not care if his next job is as GM. Made it sound as if he just wants to stay in the player scouting/evaluating part of baseball in any capacity.
  5. I would consider it hyperbole. You have to remember that they were really screwing over these young players who they claimed. These guys careers were already in jeopardy and Toronto had no intention of letting them play when they needed it most. There were players who had to sit for months (Toronto was not the only team doing this, just the worst). The Twins are not perfect. They do at least have the decency to treat their players like people. What I see from Toronto is that they got lucky on some guys and then mortgaged there future for a short run. How did having the best lineup of the decade work out for them? They still lost to the young Royals team who is more well rounded. I would guess that is why he is looking for a job.
  6. No way. When I think of Toronto recently what I remember is bad trades and picking up every player on waivers in the hopes of demoting them to AAA without another team picking them up. I think MLB was thinking of changing the rules due to how bad they abused the system. They are lucky to be where they are and are not built for sustained success. Toronto is like a bag lady picking up pennies in the alley who stumbles across gold.
  7. Sounds like he was a victim of his own success. He was very lucky his first year and that led him to take a bad approach at the plate. It's just too hard to overlook things that have worked for you in the past. He'll still have value as a 4th outfielder/utility infielder going into next year.
  8. I think Rafael Palmeiro has it.
  9. I always liked Morneau, but last I checked Mauer is still playing his position. I'd have to agree with Mr. Bonnes that we have to us the DH position to see what we have in some of the younger players.
  10. Well... I tried to think of someone who strikes out a lot in the majors and still has some success. Chris Carter comes to mind. He had about a 28 percent K rate through the minors and in AA ball as well. 34.8 percent in AA for Walker does not look good and there is not going to be a lot, if any comparisons to that. So I guess he's overrated, but I'm still hopeful.
  11. That decline could be easily attributed to the broken toe he suffered 15 days into the season. Really if he did not have the bad year it would be way to expensive to get Lucroy.
  12. Farm system is still looking strong. Walker and Stewart are interesting prospects. Walker has really made no improvement on his biggest weakness, but he just keeps on producing and moving up the ladder. You'd expect a guy like Stewart to strike a lot of people out in the minors. Even without that he has progressed through the system and the other numbers look good. Whatever works I guess.
  13. Chris Davis is just to scary to me to sign for that kind of money. He was horrible his first 3 years. Good in 2012, great in 2013 and 2015, horrible in 2014. The part I couldn't live with is there was no reason for the bad year in 2014. He was not injured. Ryan is much more risk averse than me, so I see little chance of him taking this gamble.
  14. I absolutely would not trade Rosario or move Sano to the outfield. Rosario may be the best pure hitter of our outfield prospects and he plays good defense. Why would you not want him on your team? Sano is most valuable as a third basemen. He could be an average defender there, but will always be below average defender in the outfield. Trade Plouffe and give him his shot. Plouffe is league average now and is unlikely to improve in any meaningful way. Now is the time to trade him. Ideally we would start the year with Rosario, Hicks, and Arcia. Then end the year with Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Hicks as fourth outfielder and Arcia as DH or bench bat. Who knows what will happen of course and if we end up with three good outfielders out of the five we should be happy.
  15. Very close series. I'll pick the Royals to win in seven. More consistent in the regular season this year. Mets have a lot of streaky players.
  16. I'm not a parent, but if you grab your kid a couple of beers from the new bar they will probably quiet down.
  17. That .717 is Lucroy at his worst. Mostly it was driven by injury. Usually he is .800+ OPS guy and one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. There are very few catchers who can do this in MLB today . The upgrade from the Twins catchers who have a OPS of below .600 would be huge. The median OPS for a 1B by contrast would be around .830, so .718 would be significantly below average and this was in a season where Mauer had no major injuries.
  18. I'd do that. When healthy Lucroy is elite.
  19. Tyler Duffey is doing well. Considering where they were drafted, if one of the converted relievers works out it would be a success.
  20. I had him in my fantasy baseball league for most of the year. The best thing about him was how consistent he was. Even most elite players have prolonged slumps. Not Duffy. He helped me win the league.
  21. I'd agree with you that being able to hit in the minors does not guarantee you can hit in the majors. It does make it much more likely though. My understanding is that you can get away with just being able to hit fastballs in the minors, but then get eaten up by major league offspeed pitches. This is not Relevant in the case of Vielma because he can't hit in the minor leagues. You can be pretty certain that he would be destroyed my major league pitching. WHEN WILL I LEARN TO READ THE REST OF THE COMMENTS BEFORE I REPLY TO SOMETHING!
  22. I wouldn't do it. A ground ball pitcher like gray does not have a lot of room for error. He certainly has been good, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the wheels come off. I'm also not all that confident in our future outfield, so I would be trading any outfield prospects at this time. If three of them work out I'd be very happy.
  23. You make some good points. Personally I think signing FA pitchers are a crap shoot. If you have a couple good pitchers it makes sense to try to fill out the rotation in free agency. They had nothing though. The hitters they had were getting old. In my opinion it was time to go into rebuild mode. What I meant about the contract is that they should not let that cost stop them from signing other players. They have signed players to large contracts, so it has not hurt the team in that regard. When you take the contract out of the equation you just have to see if Mauer is the best first baseman on the team. Where he bats is irrelevant. So as long as he doesn't block a better 1b it doesn't matter. You could make an argument that having Mauer caused them to release Colabello, but I don't think that's the case. It could also be argued that he is stopping them from signing a better 1B. That would depend on if they have that opportunity or not.
  24. Absolutely they had to sign Mauer. The Twins should just look at the contract as part of the cost of the new ballpark. It seems they have. Really they didn't waste his prime years, as they had some good teams until they collapsed due to horrible pitching. Not sure what they could of done about that. As long as Mauer doesn't block anyone it's fine having him on the team. That being said, Mauer doesn't change the fact that they have two good 3rd basemen. Moving one to 1st just lowers their value. They're better off trading Plouffe while they can.
