Article: REPORT: Twins To Sign Jason Castro
mikelink45 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yuch - nothing inspiring here. When do Catchers regress? I think we have another Suzuki in years two and three. What is the trade off between framing and hitting? I hope the rest of you are really excited because this does nothing for me.- 223 replies

Article: Turning Trevor May Into Andrew Miller
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the idea. We fantasize over May as a starter, but in fact his record there is not sterling. We love him as a reliever, but he has a sequence of blow ups that make us shake our heads. I think the team needs to take some of the blame. Tell him what he is going to be and stick with it. If it is the new two inning reliever then stick with that plan. -
Article: Twins Add Six Players To 40-Man Roster

We are in a new world - I know all that has been written about Plouffe, but I did not see him being released this early in the process! I am hoping that we regret Adam Bret Walker. I think we have underestimated his ability and it would be great to see him break out and prove the team wrong. Good luck Adam.- 48 replies

Bring in Garver and move on. Did you see the list and their stats and profiles. What improvement do any of them bring. They are hardly better hitters than Murphy was last year. Get our young catchers in and let them mature. It is not like the young players that we have are teenagers - their clocks are ticking too. But the bottom rung of catchers is too far down the list to waste any time in my estimation.

Article: Top Five Twins Bounce Back Candidates
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton - we started to see the uptick at the end and if he can be the player that we have expected for the last two years it will be a great move forward. Hughes and Perkins - if either of them comes back to what they were we will have added quality without doing anything but waiting.- 33 replies

Is this what we have been waiting for? Did I miss something. Was our hitting worse than our pitching? How long have our new leaders been planning this big upheavel? What an exciting development!

Article: Three-Bagger: Heat, Holland & Handbook
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not excited by Holland. If we are going to put a no upside starter in the rotation lets roll with a young guy already in the system or many of them. With Holland in the rotation we would still have a good shot at 90 losses. If we do not get a true 1 or 2 don't bother. -
My concern is that the attendance is in the tank and will drop off the cliff unless there is some excitement generated. The casual drop in fan is not going to pay the bills anymore. I understand Mauer still has name recognition, but maybe they can just have some Mauer Chevrolet sales after the game because Mauer on first is at best a filler. He is not going to cause us to lose, but he is not going to push us to win.

I find it interesting that we are looking to a new FO to come in and institute change, to shake up the system, but then we think that Mauer is locked in at first - how about a bench spot? We still can't figure out Plouffe and Dozier or Polanco and Sano. Rosario seems to be locked in to the OF, but why? Lets throw out the ideas and story lines we had in 2016. What if the new front office really does come in and make things different? Might be nice.

These are always interesting profiles and I like the insight, but like most fans I have no idea if these men are good or not and can only applaud the change and potential.

Twins Outright Missed Opportunities
mikelink45 commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
It is not who they called up, it is who they did not call up. It is using suzuki at DH instead of a young player with potential. It is starting mediocre vets instead of stretching out some young and future arms. September for a loser like the Twins is about looking for the future, but what we saw was an attempt to not lose 104 games. We lost more than games, we lost opportunities. -
Article: 40-Man Roster Decisions: The Pitchers
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I remember all our anxiety as we waited for Gibson to come up - a homegrown, drafted talent, but in all the years he has been up, including his highlight year, he has been a disappointment. I expect we will keep him, but like Santiago he should be shoved to the side when some younger prospect appears ready. For the most part I am in favor of keeping the younger players. Hopefully we will have new leadership teach the team how to bring the young players up and succeed. But I do not want to see more clog the system signings. It seems like we are always waiting for a contract to run out so we can move on.- 43 replies

Interesting list. I recognize names more here as would be expected, but only Vielma seems like a real prospect for more than a bench role. Of course this team has Logan Schafer on the MLB roster so who knows. Am I missing the real upside? It will be interesting to see how many of the top 51 will be in the MLB top 100 - will we have any this year? I look forward to the top 25 and hope to find more to be excited about.

Revisiting The Twins Swaps In 16
mikelink45 commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
This was the year we needed the new GM/president in place. Anthony gave us some effort, but 2016's 100 losses is second to the lost opportunities to develop the roster and organization for a run in the next couple years. -
As a result of the call ups this year, the list is filled with more names that I do not know, except for the great minor league reports, but somehow this list, so far, lacks the pizazz that I would like. I am not a fan of Light - big arm, but the Hoey comparison is still apt - I hope he turns it around. I hope that Melotakis can regain form and move up quickly, he is the most intriguing in this set of ten.

For some reason that I cannot explain I was actually happy when we got to 100. Any team can be mediocre, but to be truly bad when a team has so many outstanding young players is historic. I look forward to seeing the young hitters mature and the new leadership step in. I hope we will think of defense and find some fixes to the pitching staff that do not gut the developing roster. From 100+ losses we can now look upwards.

Article: Unanswered Questions
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When looking at starting rotations I believe we now have to look at least 7 deep. If I look around the league I find it hard to see rotations that hold up all year and this, for most teams, is not performance based, but injury. We cannot find a solid five, let alone 7 and I do not want to think beyond that number. Bullpen - don't we keep reading about the great minor league relievers? Get rid of the rest and let them sort it out this next year. We are not going anywhere in 2017 - it will still be a sorting year. And what about Walker - I think it is a crime he did not get at least bench time - and Palka. What is the true threesome that is in the OF. If Molitor is here we know one will be Rosario.- 54 replies

Breaking Down The Twins 40 Man
mikelink45 commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
The crux of this exercise is getting the new front office in place as quickly as possible. Who will make these decisions? If done wrong we are another year from clearing the congestion and moving forward. Come on Pohlad - get the front office in place. -
Article: Arizona's Cautionary Tale
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nicely done - it is similar to the way everyone loves the back up quarterback when things go bad, but seldom does the number two shine when put in the spotlight. I am like the rest of Twins fans, excited to have new leadership - it at least gives us some hope and TR lost all credibility with most of us. The question is - does a new leader improve us? Is the coaching staff changing too? Is ownership and other upper management ready to change with a new leader? Nothing is for sure, but at this point any change is better than the rut we are in. -
I think the Twins need to see what they can get from Walker and Vargas. I do not see them fitting the Twins plans or roster and Walker can't even get a seat on the September bench.

I will hold back my enthusiasm. This is the team that chose contraction, that hired Bill Smith and then brought back the man who recommended him. I am glad that something should happen, but the TWINS have had a lot of prospects on and off the field.
