    If they’re gonna keep Jeffers they should move Caratini. Shouldn’t be keeping 3 catchers and outside of June his bat has been poor and he’s just blocking ABs from other guys and AAA guys. This really depends on how many games they think Jeffers can catch the rest of the season. Jackson will come back down to earth, all the metrics point to a below average hitter but sending him through waivers would be a mistake. Jenkins is hitting, Culpepper will start again And even if the Twins don’t want to go that route- Mendez- .900 ops vs righties Sabato- 1.226 ops vs lefties Roden- should be playing more Wallner- 1.033 ops vs righties Going the rest of the way with Caratini and Bell playing 74% and 95% of games respectively is not it. Even if they hit league average they’re a near negative player. Bell- 0.4 bWAR, Caratini- -0.1 bWAR

    Agreed, the dude had bWAR over 4 just twice in his career. League average or worse hitter in 4 of his first 7 seasons, when his defense was peak. One WS win doesn’t too anything Posada won 4 and is a Yankee and never came close to HOF votes

    Roden has come through in every big spot lately, has metrics to show he's been having good ABs and he sits against the righty in favor of guys like Bell and Caratini. No justice in this world lol. Roden in LF, Larnach DH and Bell or Caratini to the bench.

    Trading away prospects for expiring contracts that have had most of their salary already paid is not something that should repair the fans relationship. Trading away prospects for rentals and then spending 40 million more if there's a season next year...Now you're talking. But there's been no talk about extending Jeffers or Ryan in the past year, and the payroll hasn't gone up in years. There has been nothing that tells us that Jim intends to do anything differently. He's a corporate rah rah nepo baby trying to score brownie points here and as far as I see it, he's threatening a potential future scenario where the Twins could be a small market club that wins games consistently. The gold standards of small budget teams include Tampa, Milwaukee and Cleveland and we don't do anything better than any of those teams. Letting Jeffers and Larnach walk, holding Ryan even longer and then coming into 2027 with ideas of the same payroll (or worse) would be a slap to the face of diehard fans of this team. I still shudder at the memory of 2011-2014. Aging players, a bottom 10 farm system, bottom 10 payroll. This is the situation that the franchise can't afford.

    No, I don't think it is. 5 teams in baseball history have won the WS with less than 90 wins. All 5 were somewhere in the 83-88 win range. 1987 Twins 2000 Yankees 2006 Cardinals 2014 Giants 2021 Braves One of those 5 had a bottom half of the league payroll- any guesses? 1 of the last 30 World Series winners had a bottom half payroll. 2003 Marlins. This is not a top 5 Twins team of my time, and likely not even top 10. They'll finish with less than 90 wins and a bottom half payroll. Making a few additions because Jim Pohlad wants to score some brownie points is not the right way to run an organization that won't spend money. Trade Jeffers, Trade Larnach, add a reliever if you want and get ready for next season. They're not a contender, and I question anyone who thinks that having a chance to make the playoffs makes them one. Even if the hope is that all the stars align in a way that they haven't in the last 30 years, the payroll situation means the Twins can't risk it. Because for bottom payroll teams, if you let the farm system dwindle, then get ready to see 4-5, 90-100 loss seasons in a row in the near future.

    Sigh- I just find it hard to argue with people who think that finishing with an 81-81 record and sneaking into the wildcard counts as contending 5 teams in history have won a WS with under 90 wins. All in the 83-88 bucket. One team in 30 years has won with a bottom half payroll. But hey if you want to hold onto Jeffers and get a comp pick and hold onto Larnach and continue to let the teams prospects waste away in AAA like the Twins historically have done just because you wanna see the Twins lose in 2, that’s your prerogative.

    I understand that they can add and subtract, but if they’re serious about being a contender, then doesn’t it seem silly to move on from one of your best hitters just to beef up pitching? This just brings me back to my expectation- that Jim is just doing what he can to save face. Have a chance to make the playoffs and no one will hate him. This team isn’t good enough to make a run in the playoffs and subtracting Ryan Jeffers and beefing up the pitching staff isn’t going to help that. My qualm with the Wallner situation is they’re giving ABs daily to guys like Bell and Larnach who are gone next year instead of figuring out what they have with Roden and Wallner. They brought Royce back up, why not Wallner? Royce has one good stretch of 270 PAs and has been middling to bad other than that. Wallner’s had longer stretches of hitting. Wallner was awful defensively this year, no hiding that but he wasn’t anywhere near as bad before this season. Guys press when they’re struggling with the bat and it affects the entire game And I have an issue with that because I don’t think this team is anywhere near good enough to do any damage in the playoffs and I don’t even think they’ll make it without bringing in a ton at the deadline.
