Request to delete this thread, along with any memories of last night's game post-eighth inning. I would've been just fine with a simple 5-2 loss lol. Instead... -
I also wonder what offers were out there for renting Jeffers for two months coming off a hamate injury - and with Shelty saying he was still battling through it. Imo doesn't seem like there was a big market for Twins to be sellers this season. The optimal time to trade Ryan was last season (I still question if the rumored package with Boston was legit). Who knows though, maybe trading Ryan in 2025 would've been the last straw for Buck to waive his no-trade clause.

At this point, I highly doubt he comes back this season. Buck also confirmed yesterday to Bobby Nightengale that he'll need offseason hip surgery.

haha I appreciate the pep talk! My wife was like, well, that's too bad we lost and fell asleep in five minutes. Meanwhile, the loser on the other side of the bed is tossing and turning until 2 a.m. wondering why Kody couldn't put any of those meatballs into the outfield, or our rookie utilityman's complete inability to lay down a bunt, along with a dozen other moments from the game that kept me up 🤣

I also can't help but wonder how bigger, louder crowds could've impacted some of these close home games. The drone shots of last night's crowd didn't look much bigger than when Detroit was here during April, when it was like 50 degrees colder. Sad.

Well, I've had some time to ruminate on this - I did not sleep well! - and this loss really bothers me more than any other this season. Telling myself it probably won't matter, because I also have a bad feeling about this six-game road trip.

This x100. Major League players on this team have come up short in big moments so many times since July. Like, remember the baserunning fiasco in Chicago? Down 4, chance to have the bases loaded, no outs in the 9th. That was a game some teams find a way to come from behind to win.

Technically speaking, we were five games under .500 (38-43) when the second half started. We've basically played .500 ball since. Let's chill on the "collapse" talk. Disappointing, frustrating, indeed. But no one around MLB is going, Geez, what the heck happened to the Twins in the second half this season? They were really cooking!

True. fwiw - we're 15th in RISP since the All-Star break. The numbers get skewed a bit because of nights like Monday and Tuesday. I'm not sure if there's data available for late-inning RISP average, but our RISP average must be much much lower in the 6th inning and later, especially in the second half. Plus, there have been all those times when Buck came up short in the clutch this season and that surely has stuck in fans' minds.

Ugh, with the playoff ground (and momentum) we would’ve gained with a huge comeback win, when you factor in all the late squandered opportunities, that actually might’ve been the worst loss of the season. Since Aug. 1, I can think of just a single game (final game in KC) when the bats scored a game-winning run in the sixth inning or later. They’ve gone cold (or, to be fair, been unlucky too) at the most critical moments, time and time again. In this homestand alone, we’re just one more clutch hit in the late innings from going 5-1 or even 6-0. Going 3-3 doesn’t cut it. Of course, last night, we didn’t even need a hit. Just a ball in play. Frustrating.

He did. The Twins definitely saw something in him. But, yeah, was a rough time for most of last season for Mickey. It all game together for that one game in Toronto!

Yeah, this one burns. He had one of the all-time best OPS for one month in baseball history! Up there with Bonds and Ted Williams. Are you kidding me?! I love players like Mickey, always rooted for him last year. I'll always remember that bomb he hit against Toronto for his first homer. Rocco postgame was like, yeah, he crushed that. And dang it, he'd have fit in nicely on the 2026 Twins. Seems he was destined to end up with the Red Sox though (even if he grew up a Yanks fan).

I won't be surprised if Shelty doesn't want to mess with the formula and rolls out the same lineup (in order) as the past three games.

Hang the banner: We have meaningful September baseball. Mission accomplished! ;) A 4-2 homestand would be applauded (deservedly so) after a pretty rotten start and gives us a fighting chance for the final nine divisional games. We need you, Dean!

The game could've gone a completely different direction had the Tigers capitalized on some RISP opportunities. Was tied 1-1 in the fifth and 14-1 by the end of the 6th. Props to Prielipp for a really solid outing. Was a relief to see Morris didn't let his opener inning get away from him, too. A sweep will make things interesting heading into the weekend rematch with the White Sox.
