  1. Could be worse. Look at some of the arms the Twins used last year.
  2. Show of hands! How many people thought the Colon signing was a great idea last year? Now, how many people think the Sanchez signing is a great idea this year? Anyway, this signing moves the needle. Of course, when the gauge starts at queasy and ends at vomit, well...
  3. Please, you can harsh any mellow. I say this as a fellow curmudgeon.
  4. Or, at the very least, turned a blind eye.
  5. The Cubs offered a good contract and Darvish has the chance to play for Joe Maddon on a team that won the World Series just a couple of years ago. I have to believe players looks for more than just dollars when it comes to signing a contract.
  6. I'm guessing with Santana going down the FO probably decided they needed to get serious.
  7. I believe there are two forces at work: A:Franchises have learned that big dollar long term contracts tend to be losing propositions over the long haul. B: Players and their agents are waiting for someone to sign and therefore set the free agent market. It is what it is and how it plays out is anyone's guess. Basically, who will blink first?
  8. I believe it was last year Morris made a comment something like, "If Kirby doesn't make the catch the night before, I wouldn't have bragging rights today." I thought that was a great remark by someone who turned in the single greatest pitching performance I've ever seen.
  9. If the Twins are uninterested in using internal options, I have to believe Gomez would be a great addition. Plus, I've always enjoyed Gomez. He may be a bit aggravating, but it always appeared that he was having fun when playing.
  10. The joker in the deck when it comes to the pitching staff is the new pitching coach. According the the Pioneer Press, Alston is all about the fastball. Which, if I'm reading correctly, could really benefit Mejia. See here: https://www.twincities.com/2017/10/26/twins-new-pitching-coach-is-garvin-alston/
  11. It looks to me like the day of the pure DH is going away due to the premium being placed on pitching. Which means any DH needs to be at least competent defensively. So, I don't believe valuable roster spots should be wasted on a bench player who is aging, limited defensively and is going to be rather expensive compared to internal options.
  12. I'm going with Darvish or nothing. Seems to me that adding two pitchers not named Darvish creates a problem the Twins don't need, in that the Twins have some young, and returning, pitchers the Twins need to find out about.
  13. Interesting. I wonder what the rational is behind that particular rule?
  14. Look, MLB needs to find a way to thread the needle between the length of a game and advertising revenue. More rules are not always the answer because enforcing rules can have an impact pace of play and the length of a game. If anything, I find "pace of play" to be somewhat of a deflection from where the problem actually lies.
  15. You think Hughes is going to be a viable option? I don't see it, but, then again, I was counting Mauer out last year. Of course, we all know how that turned out.
  16. Interesting, thank you for the information and insight.
  17. Not sure how this trade impacts the Central this year but thought I'd put it up. Via email: The White Sox, Kansas City and L.A. Dodgers have completed a three-team, five-player trade, with the Sox acquiring LHP Luis Avilán, RHP Joakim Soria and cash considerations from the Dodgers in exchange for minor-league INF Jake Peter. The Dodgers acquired Soria and LHP Scott Alexander from K.C. in return for INF Erick Mejia and RHP Trevor Oaks. Comments?
  18. I like your Gibson idea. Would be nice if Mr. Gibson turned the corner.
  19. Twins win 95 games and have a 1 game playoff against Cleveland even after signing Darvish.
  20. I'm right there with you when it comes to game threads. That's what I truly enjoy.
  21. Moderators? TD needs moderators? Wow, I hardly noticed. *Which, I believe, is entirely the point. Well done, guys and gals!
  22. Okay, thank you for the information. I really like the off-season because I find it interesting to keep an eye on the moves made by various teams. Though, be nice if the Twins would make a move.
