  1. Twins win 102 games and tie Cleveland, necessitating a 1 game tie-breaker to decide the division champ with the loser getting the wild card. Rosario builds on last year and flirts with a .300 batting average. Buxton shows some pop in the bat and flirts with 20 home runs. Dozier is Dozier. Mauer shows all of us his return to form last year wasn't a fluke and he is in the hunt for another batting title.
  2. Yawn. Another season of baseball. Just kidding. With any luck, I'll be able to watch some of the game at work. I think I'll try to plan a scripting project during game time so I'll be in front of my computer during the game.
  3. Seriously, this is a non-issue. Spring training games mean nothing once the season starts. I wish I could tell you Spring Training is a definite harbinger of things to come but, it isn't. For instance, I believe the Twins had a phenomenal Spring Training record going into the 2016 season. Okay, I looked it up and the Twins were 19-11 in Spring Training that year. We all know how that year turned out. Anyway, yes, I know record and batting are two different things but, I think it shows we, as fans, need to take Spring Training with a grain of salt. And, if you look at Houston, they were 15-15 in Spring Training last year, while the Angels were 21-14. Spring Training is fun to follow and MLB uses it to try and create buzz, but, in the end, the games themselves don't really indicate how a team is going to do during the regular season. By the way, even with what appears to be trouble hitting the ball, the Twins are just 1 game under 500 in Spring Training. Which means the pitching has been doing the job during Spring Training. But, it doesn't mean the pitching will carry over into the regular season. Just like the lack of hitting doesn't mean that will carry over into the regular season.
  4. Because I was a bit abrupt, let me explain about hitting and Spring Training. Generally, pitchers are ahead of hitters in Spring Training, in that pitchers tend to dominate because hitters just don't have their timing down yet. Once in a while, you'll see a lot of balls hit around the park in Spring Training. That doesn't necessarily mean the pitcher was getting lit up or the hitters were having a great day. What the box score doesn't always tell you is that pitchers, especially early in Spring Training, will go out and pitch and work exclusively on one pitch. If an MLB player knows what pitch to expect, and they will figure it out in a hurry, it's going to get hit.
  5. During the winter, I believe colons and semi-colons flock together and head south.
  6. Mr. Froemming: Congratulations, I'm sorry to hear that. Seriously, though, excellent news.
  7. No. Upon further reflection, No.
  8. Okay, cool. Nice to know he's able to work out of a jam like that.
  9. Some of us are working, or, at least, pretending to. While some people are telling us not to be jealous, because even though they're outside watching baseball, they're not truly enjoying it because, well, it's a little chilly. Nice try.
  10. Lynn seems to like putting runners on base. Hopefully, Lynn continues to crush opponents hopes after he raises them.
  11. I like that he's honest about it but I just don't see how Hughes survives if he doesn't have the ability to throw 91-92 any more.
  12. Hughes seems to be throwing between 72 and 82 mph. I have to believe he's working on off-speed stuff today.
  13. I'm not sure what Hughes is currently doing qualifies as "pitching" so, you may be safe.
  14. I've been keeping an eye on Hughes' velocity readings and, well, velocity is putting it charitably.
  15. I'm nearing retirement. So, finding another job probably isn't in the works. And, I've flown for business in the past. No thanks. Uggh.
  16. By the way, I hope you're having a great time at Spring Training! Hopefully, in a couple of years, people can be jealous of me while I attend Spring Training.
  17. Okay, that's just mean. So, yes, I'd say you're definitely in game thread form.
  18. No problem, some player I've never heard of got Pressly off the hook. Sign him! Force to be reckoned with!
  19. That was fun to watch and I hope it's a sign of things to come. Triple by Buxton and brought home by Kepler.
  20. Seems like Nola is going pretty deep into the game for this time of the year.
  21. I'm cautiously optimistic about Mr. Gibson this year. Not so much about Mr. Hughes, darn it.
  22. Did you holler "Bingo" during the Dave St. Peter interview? I believe he was pretty close to covering your card.
  23. By the way, there may be a "get out of banning free" card. Check with Chief and Carole for available games and sign up for threads now! Hurry, while they last and, if you order now, you get two game threads for the price of one! (I may have made that last bit up. Okay, I may have made up more than just that last bit)
