  1. It would take an extraordinary over pay for Ryan to sign an extension with the Twins.
  2. So much bigger problems than the manager. Since he was extended for next season might as well see it through it is not like the team is a contender for the division title.
  3. That’s a lot of what ifs. Likely something good will come from the young talent pool but reality says cost cutting continues. Sands hasn’t been right for last 10 days which makes me wonder if he isn’t pitching hurt. Lopez came out last night with forearm tightness, the Festa injury likely is career threatening and on and on we go. Really hard for me to see much light at end of the tunnel for the next season. 100 losses looks like a lock for next year.
  4. All kidding aside. Would it not be better to just cancel the 26 season for the Twins? Just give everyone a w that is on the schedule. Really hard to see anything good coming. Looking forward to a 100 loss season is just hard for me I guess.
  5. I wouldn’t give up on Mathews as a starter just yet. I don’t see a scenario where Lopez is not traded. A far as Festa is concerned it sounds like his career is in serious doubt do to Thorasic Outlet Syndrome.
  6. So we have expanded rosters and we are a non playoff team and we have position players pitching. I don’t get it, I just don’t get it. And Monday was an off day.
  7. So I get it the only way to determine value of a young promising starting pitcher is ERA. Your logic follows the gm and ownership well. The progression Ryan has made is more than a stat line will ever measure. Look inside an individual and see the competitive nature they have and little bit at someone’s ability to learn and improve. Statistics are nice but sometimes winners are necessary to acquire if you want a winning team. Joe Ryan has the makeup to be a winner for whichever team he plays for.
  8. No the Twins will not get any bargains on Ryan today. The time to extend him has long., long passed by two years. Likely he is traded this off season. Hopefully they don’t get a Johann Santana type of return.
  9. Joe Musgrave was extended 5 yrs. Sonny Gray was extended before the Twins acquired him. Pablo Lopez was extended back when their ownership was trying to win. Those are a few that I know of. It can be done but not if you are not counting pennies.
  10. Joe Ryan has not been injury prone. If the organization was worth 2 cents he would have signed an extension already and this conversation would be nuts.
  11. All well and good but it wouldn’t be a shock to hear him request a trade. With no defense or bullpen behind him right now his teammates are costing him money in arbitration. The fact that his name was tossed around in deadline trade deals does nothing to help the organization either. There are times when even the good guys draw a line in the sand and say “get me the he!! Out of here”.
  12. The value of a team acquiring Joe Ryan is more than just a great pitcher with 2 yrs left. It’s the potential to be able to extend that said contract much like the Twins did with Pablo. Likely Ryan would sign an extension with a solid team.
  13. I don’t see ownership adding anything of substance to current payroll. Subtracting is far more likely. After seeing the results of the trade deadline deals this team will be in the AL central basement for at least the next 2 seasons.
  14. For those who have been pining to see Adams and Hatch and co. Don’t let your eyes deceive you. Nothing to see here.
  15. I wonder if we can at least win more games than the Rockies next season? Clearly we have fallen behind the White Sox.
  16. The Pohlads misdirection about selling the team will NEVER be forgotten. Not next year or the year after. NEVER NEVER ever.
  17. Our leadership (owners included) have taken us below the White Sox. Congrats you should be proud.
  18. At least Cole Sands should be fresh for tomorrow. Maybe we will have a bigger lead to protect then. I just don’t see Topa as a high leverage reliever going into next season. Too much contact for the late innings.
  19. No because I don’t believe they will be with the team in 26. I don’t trust that they will get requisite talent for them in the trades that send them away.
  20. Well we have Micky Gasper. 3 hit night and game tying home run and threw out a would be base stealer. Not much else to see positive on the horizon. If you have followed the team the last 45 games you well know it’s not just the play on the field that is the problem.
  21. The ownership mess will dictate more than the on field performance going forward. I think Lopez gets dealt fairly early in the off season. Likely the offers for Ryan will be large enough he gets moved also. For anyone who thinks Ryan will want an extension I ask if you are Joe Ryan why would you sign an extension with the Twins? He likely wants an extension just not with this team and I wouldn’t blame him a bit if he asks to be traded. The mess the Twins are in currently with ownership is worse than the contraction threat years and players like Joe Ryan want no part of it.
  22. Nothing points to success like going 1-5 against the Athletics and White Sox. Everyone was clamoring to so Abel and Bradley. Well now you have seen them in Twin’s uniform.
  23. The lack of development of bats goes down below the major league level. Austin Martin, Julien, and Larnach were all high level college bats going into Twins system. I realize there are no guarantees but it has gotten ridiculous. Miranda is a case unto itself but where are the success stories? Royce even admits to being confused by the system. Brent Rooker was given up on and is now an all star.
  24. A little premature to do that I believe. Young pitchers need innings to harness their control. Taller longer limbed guys take time to grow into their bodies. A starter with poor control is not going to be able to get enough innings pitching out of the pen. Mathews has potential to be a no 1 starter someday. Rushing him last season might have delayed his development a bit. It looks to me like he trying to too much at once and consequently is not doing what he once was good at and that is fastball control.
