  1. Yeah, I was like, "Man, this trying out new rules thing in Spring Training has gone too far".
  2. Owners make the most money when they sell their teams. Having the Dodgers worth more makes their teams worth more. The myth of the sports loving owner is just that.
  3. MLB is broken financially. All I want is a team that is fun to watch and competes hard. We're not going to win the Series, and I'll be happy with a fun team like the Piranhas back in the day, makes the playoffs, gives me a little hope.
  4. Agreed, both in loving Jorge and in the Mets overpaying. But it's the Mets, that's what they do.
  5. I was aiming more for "Takes casual fans to fill the stands". I bought Tix to a game last year too. They were so cheap in September!
  6. I think either a popular former player or a well known manager could have made a difference to the casual fan. And that's who fills the stands, not us few nerds on TD.
  7. I think he fits our existing culture perfectly.
  8. I don't think Royce is a prick. I appreciate his willingness to say what is on his mind. For some reason, whenever he comes up people want to defend what he says because he's willing to say it out loud. I thought it was a pretty apples to apples comparison of two players faced with a similar situation and having very different reactions. Royce seems to be risk-averse during the season. He has the right to be that way, but I don't think it's a strength or something to defend, especially when his last season and half has not been strong.
  9. Royce Lewis, 2024 - “I’m terrified out there. Little things like that are just adding extra elements to a September push that’s important to me. I don’t know. We have plenty of really good second basemen, and I don’t want to mess up our defense just because we’re going to try something new. It’s not spring training or Triple-A for that.” Bo Bichette, 2025 - "To be honest, I brought it up. It was something that I felt like I could get ready for quicker than another position. I just want to be ready to help the team in any way that is afforded to me, so that felt like an opportunity for me, and obviously they were on board with it." Bichette returns to lineup, plays 2B for first time in MLB career
  10. We keep Julien because we don't have anything better, not because he's good. Same with Brooks Lee. Same with Lewis unless someone would give us something for him. It's not that they're good players, it's that we don't have better players. This is also why I don't care where we draft. The current regime has not proven they can identify or develop talent at the major league level. The jury is out on Keaschall. He seems solid, but small sample size. Otherwise... Guys still in the minors that we have high hopes for, and guys like Julien, Lee, etc.
  11. Tell me you're the aging prime demographic of MLB without telling me you're the aging prime demographic of MLB.
  12. If Royce was an 8th round pick, no one would care. The league is full of players who burn brightly for a season and fade away. I think that's what he is. He may be a slightly above average player but I don't think he is what we all thought 2 years ago.
  13. Here I was wondering if we'd get to 70 wins. Now I'm wondering if we get to 67.
  14. Good to see Royce beating out infield singles. That's why we've all been so excited about him after all. Pro tip: the last 3 numbers should generally increase from left to right. I'm old and crabby but I can't get excited about him as anything but an average starter at this point, which on this team is actually pretty good.
  15. On the bright side, he did say (supposedly) that he's started looking at scouting reports, so that should only help.
  16. Short answer to the question in the heading - No.
  17. Honest question - if he goes to free agency, can the Twins offer him less than that or can only another team do that?
  18. If you're a below average defender you need to be an above average hitter. I think WAR is a useful tool. But also some guys just have a little "it" that makes them more valuable than their raw numbers.
