  1. Congrats to Caleb Thielbar! May this be the first of many more.
  2. In the words of Josey Wales, deserve's got nothing to do with it. Twins Win! Twins Win!
  3. I'd prefer if he'd never let Pelfrey go over 4 IP.
  4. Dang. KC was cruising through 6 2/3. Too bad. Let's get some runs.
  5. Thanks, this is encouraging.
  6. So here's the plan. By June Hicks is a stud, and the lineup is: Dozier Mauer Hicks Morneau (who will have regained some form) Arcia 2 of Doumit/Parmalee/Willingham Plouffe/3B SS OK, maybe "plan" overstates what it really is. But I like it, if Hicks and Arcia can hold up there end.
  7. Thank you for this helpful feedback. I will attempt to be more precise in any future posts about minor league replacements for players placed on the disabled list by referring to the changes as temporary, unless any of them are named Wally Pipp.
  8. Those are good- I remember the Glenallen Hill story. He was seriously hurt. There was also a St Louis Cardinal pitcher who was out for a while with a broken hand. He claimed it was from falling, then bragged that he'd actually hurt himself punching out his sister's husband.
  9. Yeah, I bet she gets chased all over the place...
  10. OK, I got here really late and am catching up on the game thread. I just laughed out loud for 3 minutes at this post.
  11. The early report today was that it was his other leg, not the one that bothered him in ST.
  12. Sorry, I apparently was unclear- what I meant was that Hermann can better serve as a replacement for Ramirez, and since Ramirez is on the DL having Hermann on the team is an excellent idea. I was not criticizing the move, personally.
  13. I think part of the reason is that since the Mets had brought him up the previous year, the Twins felt like it would be demoralizing for him to be placed back in AAA. It's not hard to imagine also wanting to show a major league player as part of the return for Santana, even if that didn't actually happen to be true. That said, I wonder if minor league coaches would have had much impact on Go-Go. He might just be one of those guys who just has to figure things out himself. Whatever happened, I'm glad he's doing well (and that he's not with the White Sox).
  14. and at second glance, Wilkin is still on the DL with a concussion, so having a replacement seems like a good idea.
  15. Great to read about these intriguing players. Even with the inevitable injuries and failures there's enough talent to make the next few years really exciting.
  16. Just a minute, I've got to put my kids to bed before they try to read over my shoulder.
  17. It's really sweet that Ashburyjohn uses her as his avatar, though.
  18. Boy, that's two very, very nice defensive plays in a very tough spot. Nice job. Made better by the shot of Deduno practicing winning the Olympic gold medal after Parmelee's catch.
  19. This will cause him to go 0-4 and bobble two easy plays tonight, but I freely acknowledge that I gave up too early on Florimon. He's a better player than I thought he was. I don't think he's the best SS we could have for the next 5 years, certainly, but he's making the plays and I'm not looking at the lineup hoping to see Escobar at short like I was a few weeks ago. Every other opinion I have is correct.
  20. Sorry, I was just imagining Votto on the Twins and had to step outside for a little air. What did you ask again?
  21. OK, I'll restate my response as "I want the Morneau who averaged an OPS of 915 over 4.5 years instead of the one who currently has an OPS of 735. I also think, in my personal opinion, he is hitting too many ground balls lately and many of them end up in the glove of the second baseman." None of this is meant as either an indictment or an affirmation of whatever Twins hitting philosophy is taught, taught poorly, or not taught at all. I hope that whatever Bruno is saying is going to help the many current Twins who are struggling.
  22. I get the point and I more or less agree, but I'm not too sure about your examples. I would like Justin Morneau to go back to the Justin Morneau who was a young player hitting tons of homers. Whatever his problem is now, it isn't hitting the other way, it's grounding out to second. More Joe Mauers would be ok with me too. Even if we had to put up with those pesky doubles. I agree with the previous post about adjustments. Arcia's another example- throw him a fastball, he pulls it, boom. Now pitchers are messing with him, and while he's shown the ability to go the other way with some power, he's got to figure out when it makes the most sense without giving up his chances to pull one out of the park. Hopefully he can do each, when each is appropriate, and be a major force.
  23. Absolutely, and I would expand this to say "the frustrating part of most conversations about the front office". The other point here is that this is to some degree cherry-picking; every organization has players who thrive under different systems. In Hardy's case, he went from a really good hitter with the Brewers to a complete wreck; he improved with the Twins, and he did even better with the Orioles (although I still don't think he's quite the hitting god that some do). I don't think the Twins exactly destroyed him. Ortiz didn't sign with Boston until late in the winter, after being cut early by the Twins- he was not exactly seen as a potential superstar. I laughed (in a good way) at the previous comment about Gomez swinging so hard he fell down. If there's anyone who wasn't ruined by trying to hit the other way, it was Carlos. The biggest adjustment I remember the Twins making is trying to get him to bunt more, which seemed like a good idea when he was a relatively skinny, really fast guy who struck out a lot. Let's also recall that the Twins have a new hitting coach who pulled the ball a lot as a player. Rehashing players from 4+ years ago doesn't seem like a particularly current topic.
