  1. Boy, Willingham took a good pitch for strike two.
  2. Maybe the Twins could take all this money they save on Sanchez and pay a posting fee and a salary to sign a shortstop from the Japanese league...oh wait, never mind. That's probably a bad idea. I hope they don't try it.
  3. But there is no cap on the number of international players that can be signed, and I don't think there's a cap on bonuses. They gave Sano a huge amount of money.
  4. However, others might be harmed by you righting what you perceive to be wrongs. I'm merely taking advantage of financial transactions freely offered by others who have gain as their only motive. I didn't say those were the only things I would do with a time machine. I do confess those were the things I thought of first, though.
  5. At this point, if I had a time machine I'd bet the house on the Vegas over/under line for Twins wins. I'd probably do other things too, like take my money out of the stock market in early 2007 and reinvest it in 2008, but I'd definitely bet on the Twins.
  6. OK, I'll go on record as saying we should not have offered Greinke $200 million. And if my offers were $200 million and $10 I'd take the big money too. Look, it bugs me that the Twins aren't spending their money this year. Maybe they are holding it to sign Appel and other top draft picks and internationals, or to spend a ton next year, but I'll believe that when I see it. I just disagree with the idea that spending that much on one pitcher right now is a good idea. A shortstop? That might persuade me. A pitcher who could potentially push us from 88 wins to 95 wins? Absolutely. Coming into the year people were talking about a historically bad team. Buying a guy at his peak doesn't make any sense under those circumstances, unless you think a guy at 28 will be at least as good for 3-4 more years. With pitchers, that's a bad bet to me.
  7. Also please note that neither Sanchez nor Grienke signed with Cleveland. They did get Brett Myers. They can have him.
  8. I'm guessing Grienke meant he signed for the most money, subject to having a chance to win. I bet his agent had a list of teams he was willing to go for, and he took the most money off that list.
  9. There's a key point here that people seem to be missing- if you were a 28-yr-old stud pitcher with multiple bidders for your services, would you be excited to go to a 96-loss team? These guys were not solely going to the highest bidder, no matter what. Sanchez would come here instead of Detroit? Greinke would prefer us to multiple teams expected to compete for the WS? They want money and a ring, not money. We have to be in better position before we can even think about getting these premier free agents. Or even some of the second-tier free agents based on what Rob Antony said in March. As Suzie Derkins said when she was wishing Calvin would be nice to her: while I'm at it, I might as well wish for a pony.
  10. Liriano has completed 5 minor league rehab starts for the Pirates. Interesting stats- 21.2 IP, 33 Ks, only 4 BB, only 2 HR, and a 1.06 WHIP. However, he's got an ERA of 4.15- the walks and hits must have all come in the same 3 innings or something. No matter how well he pitches, I won't argue the Twins should have signed him. If he does well, and as long as he stays in the NL that's ok with me, I will give credit to a fresh start.
  11. The umpires have given Ferrell and the Sox a huge amount of yapping this series. Twins Win! Twins Win! Wait, that's 3 of 4 in Boston and a 5-5 road trip, right?
  12. I don't think he's going to be invited to the next barn-building. He uses inappropriate language.
  13. Thou shalt not touch my high heat.
  14. More importantly, how is Florimon Sr. doing ?
  15. Turn it up- we can't hear you in the back.
  16. That looked like a semi-intentional walk, didn't it? Nibble on the outside and see what happens. Let's have no mistakes with Ortiz, please.
  17. Good call, Duensing comes out for the 7th.
  18. Either way, very glad to see the reliever come in. Nice job, KC.
  19. OK, I'm the one who said we should hit more balls at Lackey. I'll take credit for that. Arcia gets all the credit for the home run, I didn't do that.
  20. Nice to see Florimon make that play- tough chance. He seems to be avoiding the easy bobble these days, too.
  21. Oh man, if I only knew where there was a smelt fry in my area...mmmmmm, smelt.....
  22. Hicks really hit that ball hard and Lackey snagged it. Now Florimon runs one between his legs. Let's keep trying him.
  23. So tomorrow, I say we bunt at Ciriaco about 15 times in a row. Then in the second inning we'll try something else.
  24. Hammer got hammered. Let's go Morneau.
