  1. I'd rather face the young Mayberry than the old Mayberry. Big John was a scary guy holding that bat. Young Mayberry, not so much.
  2. The horse comes out for the seventh. It would make me happy if he finished the seventh. And isn't making me happy what this is really all about? Come on Pelf!
  3. So two on, nobody out, and we score a run on a bunt and a groundball to the pitcher. This isn't even small-ball, it's molecule-ball. Let's finish the inning with a bomb. No, sorry, it's Jamey time.
  4. I really like what I see from Arcia. He yanked a ball about two million feet but foul, now he goes the other way on an outside breaking pitch. Love to see him doing both things on appropriate pitches.
  5. Remember that game when we scored more than 4 runs? Wasn't that fun? Could we do that again?
  6. Yeah, you are probably right. And I can't say that's a terrible decision. He's looked decent tonight, and the last couple of starts [cue music consistent with impending disaster].
  7. I think Howard might be slower than Doumit carrying Thome.
  8. Well, that was a fun play- groundball past Justin, Escobar out in almost medium-deep right field makes the play, Pelfrey covering for the out.
  9. Geez, let's get this Phillies pitcher out of the game already.
  10. Whoa we scored!!! Sweet! Agreed about ex-Twins. I almost always want to see them do well as long as they aren't playing us. DY is an exception for me too.
  11. Nine in a row. Apparently Big Pelf wants to stay on the team.
  12. Delmon struck out against Pelfrey. He owed us that.
  13. I just can't imagine a future for the team that features Carroll and Pelfrey, and I'd rather give young guys a chance. I'm not quite there yet on Willingham, partly because we'd be selling low. I don't think the market for C&P is much anyway. Nice guys, but we gotta look toward the future. Especially if Pelf is going to keep killing the bullpen with these 5+ inning starts.
  14. You know, I want to blame Pelfrey for everything that goes wrong in his starts, but his stats aren't always historically dreadful (just really bad). He's had some decent starts, though they haven't been long starts. It's just the sense of impending doom, that everything could fall off a cliff in a heartbeat, combined with the sense that even his outs are hard-hit balls. I also like Jamey Carroll. That doesn't prevent me from hoping that when Plouffe comes back from Rochester he brings Gibson (or, honestly, any other pitcher) with him, and both Pelfrey and Carroll head off toward the horizon.
  15. Shore was quoted somewhere, maybe the Pioneer Press, that he was not going to sign now but hoped the Twins would draft him again in a few years. Sounded like he was only going to sign if he was picked in the top few rounds.
  16. Do you suppose Walters is taking a bat to Gardy's door? No, probably to Duensing's locker. Tough luck for a great pitching performance.
  17. I think it was denied at the Sundance Festival, though. Too many good free agent films.
  18. Agreed, I'd love to have Hermann prove that he's an adequate PH/backup CF/backup catcher. He's had some nice moments so far. I hope he gets to play a lot while Hicks is out.
  19. To be fair, something clicked in his head the day Benson put on a Frisco Roughriders jersey, not a Rangers jersey. Then he pulled a muscle and missed 9 straight games. "Injury-prone" doesn't even begin to describe him. I think if the Twins had kept him they would have ended up with four injured centerfielders.
  20. I'd rather have May and Meyer, however they turn out, than a light-hitting good-fielding CF who gets worn down chasing line drives all over the outfield for the next 5 years. The pitching has to be fixed or nothing else matters. If Hermann/Thomas can't back up Hicks for a couple weeks there are more outfielders to try. The biggest problem the Twins have right now is that it's not 2014. I think the goal this year is to field a half-competitive team while figuring out who to keep and who to trade/release over the next 18 months. Cycling through minor-league outfielders is part of that. Oh yeah, finding a middle infield and a few reliable starters wouldn't hurt either.
  21. re: that catch- you know, that scout that compared him to a young Willie Mays doesn't sound all that foolish. Holy crap.
  22. Not until Willingham starts hitting the ball instead of using the ol' lean-into-the-pitch strategy to get hit himself.
  23. Eades is a junior who uses Boras, correct? I hope the Twins can sign him. My guess is they did their due diligence on this. Hopefully we'll get to watch him in the CWS.
