  1. Of all the of last year’s trade inanity, this one stands out as blatantly pathetic. Here’s a solid pitcher that had clearly found his groove, was pitching very well, few injuries, filling an urgent need (especially after the other trades), and with five years of low cost team control left. I can confidently say that every team in the league would have traded for Varland for a couple of iffy, unneeded MiLBers if given the chance. So WTF happened? • Varland was a low cost pitcher (almost league minimum, pre-arb). So it wasn’t a salary dump • We had just traded away most of the BP so he clearly was a needed position on the team • He had no history of significant injuries • The key return was a SP that was pushed aggressively through the TOR minors to get to AAA ASAP. He was rushed and seems oft injured and unprepared. He just seems far more risky that Varland (not that any P is without risk). • The 2nd return was a LF OFer which we clearly didn’t need (likely the throw in to close the deal). So, while it is early, it appears today to be another badly lopsided trade. So why did Falvey do this trade? I have only one explanation: It has been reported that once the Twins started their trading madness many teams started piling on with offers trying to get in on the action It became a feeding frenzy. At the last minute, thinking he might have one more trade available (and having missed out on trading Ryan or Larnach), he bit on Torontos offer. Maybe TOR had to throw in Roden at the last minute to. Close the deal. Falvey was so wrapped up in the frenzy he really didn’t take the time to think this one through in that last minute. What does Roden do for the team? How good is Varland vs Rojas? But 5 years of control…just moving it forward with Rojas? I still contend that Falvey got wrapped up in the frenzy of nearly every team calling him with offers left and right. He clearly had no plan (other than shed CC’s salary and expiring contracts). Things just got flying so fast and furious that he didn’t take the time to make intelligent, thoughtful decisions ….For which he SHOULD HAVE been fired. The Varland trade was unconscionable. I am soooo glad that Falvey got the boot!
  2. OH Yeah...easy peasy! Its the Zollmeister at work. Please don't disrespect the smartest guy in the room! Pass the kool-aid, please....
  3. I couldn't agree more. Johan was stuck in the pen for a while because he was a Rule 5 draft and they had to keep him on the team. So, instead of sitting on the bench and throwing fake innings, why not get out there and face some MLB hitters? Its excellent experience. Rojas would well benefit from facing a string of tough MLBers in the biggs. He is gonna learn that command is so mightily important! He's gonna learn that MLBers will sit back and take those free walks all day long with a smile on their face. Then he might bone down and work on this command. And, he will be getting instruction all along from the Twins excellent MLB coaches. Personally I can't come up with a single reason NOT to bring him up in a RP role. All this talk about "converting" him to an RP is nonsense. He can always go back to SP once he tightens up his command and we have a full pen. And, to say that RP is for failed starters....ummmm....I think Johann would smack you in the nose over that one! Its a place for pitchers to get some training and experience at the MLB level--all while providing value to the team. I couldn't
  4. Other than Buxton, which of these OFers are really part of our long term plans???? Its gonna be Gonzales, Emma and Jenkins in the OF. I say, get them started as soon as possible! Choose a 4th OFer from the either Roden or Mendez. But, come on...why are we hanging on to the others? Let's start trimming the excess this trade season and accept the obvious. There is no reason on this earth to keep putting Larnach or Wallner in the OF if we have these talented players available.
  5. Hi Doc: I would LOVE to sign Ryan but I am 99% positive that the Twins have already burnt that bridge. I highly doubt that he would sign an extension with the Twins...or even, let's say, the LAD if he were traded there. He knows that if he has another year like this one, he will be earning $20-$30 mill on the open market. I just can't see the Twins matching those offers, so the chances of him signing an extension are pretty much dead. That said, all the teams know that he is the best SP available for trade (not named Skubal) and has that 2027 year, so yeah, he will bring a pretty good trade haul. I think this is our reality, sadly. But, we may be at a point where we could get a good deal on an Lopez extension. I expect he will come back strong and I love him on the team. A more challenging question: do you trust Zoll to make a good trade for Ryan?
  6. I have been waiting all season for this to happen.....WHEN!!!!??!??!?!? We keep throwing out retreads in RF and LF and it has been a merry-go-round with inept players flying off in all directions. Why can't we just start the future RIGHT NOW? Bring up Jenkins and Emma right now. We kidding ourselves if we think Martin and Larnach (or Wallner, Fedko, Roden, Kreidler, etc) will ever be as good as Walker Jenkins and Emma Rodriguez. These are complete players, both with 60-grade power and 60-grade arms. Jenkins is a 5-tool player and our top prospect--our next Buxton. So, what the heck are we waiting for. Time to get their feet wet in the MLBs, get through that initial slump, and start learning how to be an MLB star. We are ready now. I'm ready for an outfield of Buxton, Jenkins and Emma, with probably Roden as a 4th OFer. We all know this will likely be the starting OF by the end of the season. Let's get started already!!!
  7. Lots here. Sure we have made some good progress this year is holding players accountable and have seen positive signs (e.g. Lewis and Lee). But this is NOT a competitive team and we cannot make it one with all of these moves. I agree, bring up the young OFers! NOW! And move some of these SPs to the bullpen. But Ryan COULD return a top AAA rookie or two. He’s that valuable. And: I highly doubt that te Twins will be able to sign an extension with him. He wants and deserved Ace $$ and TP won’t pay it. He’s gonna prob hold out for $15-20 mill in arb! He’s not stupid. And we might not even play ball next year so why hang on to him for a few months? All we get is a comp pick, if that still exists! So might as well capitalize on him now. Sorry. We need to build for the future so that means either extend or trade. He won’t extend so trade now. Sorry. Start filling holes (1B, RP, etc). I also assume we get a top SS or C in the draft.
  8. The Twins most certainly have options other than picking up waiver wire relief pitchers. Instead of bringing up all these cast-off loser RPs (like nearly every one has been so far!), here are some not-so-novel ideas: 1) Bring up some AAA pitchers!!!! That has worked out pretty well in the past. 2) deal for some actually good RPs 3) spend some F’in money already!!!!
  9. Hopefully we can erase this inane falvey madness from our memories. He not only wanted a DH at every position, he wanted every position to play every position. WTF
  10. Yeah, we are saying the same thing. I desperately wish that Tom would wake up and realize that it is NOT the players that are the problem. It IS the organization. I kinda like the coaching staff right now...seems to be more attention to detail and aggressive playing. I have not seen that since the Piranhas. But, ultimately, it is up to Zoll to feed the players to the team and it is up to the MiLB to train up these players that are drafted or traded. I have very little confidence in Zoll. I am hoping that after Tom showed Falvey the door, he realizes that Zoll was just Falvey's lackey and is still following the same failed game plan. But, I suspect that Tom is a fair-minded guy and he is generously allowing Zollie a full year to prove himself.
  11. You’re right. The system was great at developing players back with TK. Gardy came in with many great, well-trained rising players. Not sure that Gardy did anything or who/ what happened, but the player development has suffered since. The only thing I can point to is a string of Gardenhire hires. Is that it? Who tore down TK’s system? Or did TK’s system die of old age or irrelevance? Have the training tools, methods, skills changed that much? Because somewhere over the last 20-25 years, we lost it.
  12. I agree…but are you going to leave all of these player decisions to Zoll? I just can’t trust him (and recent polls and his actions seem to agree). After all, it has been Zoll who has been dumpster diving for all these washed up losers he keeps foisting on Shelton. Can’t we hold Zoll accountable? Who does if it isn’t Tom?
  13. Ok. Here’s an on-site report from the desert: 1) the food at the Twins field is far superior to Chase Field. You are lucky, Twins fans! 2) Other than food, they seem to do a better job of taking care of fans here. They have free handouts almost every weekend and often more than one. Yay. Their “Advantage Fan” system is great—I don’t know of anything comparable in Twins country. And they have a swimming pool in the stadium! Pricey but interesting. 3). Jumbotron is not viewable from large parts of the stadium! Sucks! And they don’t add n some localized flat screens to make up for it. 4) The players are not better, they are just playing much better. Last year the players played like they just don’t care. This is a far more aggressive team! I never saw a Rocco team play this hard. The coaching is great. 5) the only coaching bumps that I saw in 2 games was leaving in (or letting in) Lawrence. Sure we were up 16-0 but after 4 walks in a row to start an inning he should have DFA’ed him right then and there from the dugout. I’m hoping he went straight to Zoll and said “I’ll never call his name again, never ever, so you might as well DFA him because he’s a wasted butt warming a bench from here on forever!” Who knows? On the other hand I was worried about Parades today but the coaches stick with him. Overall, I am far more impressed with the coaching now than over the last 10 years. Not quite piranhas but getting there!! 6). I thought Buxton had his best year last year but this could be even better! And Clemons looks like the real deal great Games!!
  14. Why not rotate through the AAA pitchers for a few innings instead!! Give the kids some exposure to the Biggs? Can it possible be as bad as Lawrence? Personally I hate this Falvey/Zoll strategy. It’s embarrassing always dumpster-diving. It just leaves oks so desperate, so tasteless, so clueless.
  15. Ok. But it has rarely ever worked out. There’s Johann that we got because he was left unprotected. But otherwise, there’s this. The inanity of it is this: Zoll does this like a Zombie: he jumps on any RP that is dropped, no matter how good or bad, even paying $$$ to skip to the head of the line. No thought process at all. Lawerence is totally cooked yet he got a ton of chances to drop on 9 runs. Fine on WW pickups, just take the good ones!
  16. Sorry, that was a mean question. Didn’t mean to be so dismissive. But, what is wrong with 4 lefties? Can happen and I’d give it a try. It’s likely temporary.
  17. Can we just DFA Zoll? How long before Tommy Boy figures this out? He really is embarrassing the team. We all know that he is just mimicking Falvey—because he’s young and probably doesn’t know any better. For Pete’s sake…if Tom said we’re gonna be competitive, then throw him some bucks to get a REAL BP! or, if Wonderboy Zeroes Zoll had a brain, he COULD bring up some of the AAA pitchers and spell them some innings in the BP. They get some MLB experience and it can’t possibly be as bad as “the Lawrence Experiment!”
  18. I agree 200%!! Sill’s experiments are just idiotic. And very very embarrassing! If I were Zoll, I’d be ashamed of myself. But here’s a good question: who is watching over Zoll? Who is there saying “This is just plain stupid!” Does the skipper ever chime up and say “Hey, enough already! Quit bringing me these losers!” Or does the owner ever say “What TF are you doing with this revolving door on waiver wire claims? I don’t see other teams doing this. Are you sure about this strategy because it definitely is NOT WORKING!” Geez, someone please stand up and kick Zoll in the ass so he snaps out of this daze?
  19. At the game. I’ve never seen a ten spot in person. It was amazing!!! And when Buxton came up with bases loaded, I turned to my wife and said “they’re gonna regret this!” Just then…BOOM! Grand Salami!! On the other hand….Watching Lawrence was like getting teeth pulled! Cherry on top of the cake was waking up to see he’s been DFA’ed!!! Yay!!
  20. Just above the swimming pool. 2nd row. Lots of Twons fan in AZ! GEEZ PLEASE DUMP LAWYERSON!!!!!
  21. You know....we really can't choose on trading Larnach or Ryan or Buxton or whoever....until after Draft Day. Do we get the SS of the future (Chowolsky, Emerson) or the backstop of the future (Lackey) or does Zoll take a wild flyer on another player? If we get (yet another) high end SS pick, then maybe we think about trading out Lee or maybe it isn't so hard trading Clemmons? And, if Lackey falls our way, then yeah, it's not gonna hurt so much trading Jeffers. No matter what, it would be a heinous mistake if Zoll didn't trade Ryan. As I said earlier, we won't be able to resign him, so take your lumps along with the fresh prospects. As far as draft day goes, it ought to be really easy, just take the one that falls to #3. Don't get cute. Don't try to outsmart everyone. Worry about your next pick.
  22. You hit the nail on the head here: the Twins cannot offer these high value athletes a competitive salary to stay with the Twins. I am unsure about Jeffers, but based on what Ryan has said over the last year, there is likely no amount of money that the Twins could afford that will keep him in Minnesota. That's too bad because because Falvey was his own worst enemy here with the way he handled the deadline dump of '25. This could have been avoided but not Falvey. So, he ripped apart the team and, as we are seeing, some of those trades have been good and some bad. And, he burnt the bridges to Ryan. So, might as well trade him, because we might not even play games next year (so keeping him makes even less sense). Imagine how Zoll must feel. I wonder if Falvey said it out loud: "Yeah, I totally f'ed up this mess and now it is all yours! Good luck, buddy, I am outta here!" Falvey really screwed him over!
