  1. He is 30 miles from a tragedy that took 17 lives days ago and he is tweeting about Oprah while bragging he could defeat her. He really is devoid of any sense of morality or emotions or empathy for anything that does not directly involve himself.
  2. I don't know - he seems pretty wild and reckless if this is how he behaves - someone is going to get hurt. If he can have a season similar to last year, I would like to see him play a couple of more years for a reasonable price. I suspect he will retire if he does not continue with the Twins, but you never know. If he still wants to play and it had to be with another team,I would not begrudge him it, but it would seem wrong to see him in another uniform. Time flies, it does not seem that long ago he was the young kid on the team. I am not sure I appreciated how young he was at the time. I remember when Casilla was new to the team, they were talking about the ups and downs of a young player, and I realized Mauer was only a year or two older than him, but was already considered an experienced veteran and had been for awhile. .
  3. I noticed someone who is supposed to be a leader to the nation spoke for about seven minutes today and did not even mention guns. You are already hearing the GOP reps hemming and hawing about not acting without all the facts or it being too soon. I noticed they never even did manage to pass the gun bump legislation after the Vegas massacre. It is sickening what some people are able to over look when they receive some NRA blood money.
  4. We know it was the sixth day, but where that falls on the modern calendar is harder to say.http://static-media.fxx.com/img/FX_Networks_-_FXX/100/486/Simpsons_10_18.jpg
  5. Yes - I know a lot of people complain about the Mauer contract, and while it has not worked out as well as hoped (although I don't think it is the worst contract ever that people moan about), I don't think it hamstrung the team. The bottom fell out and I think they did not spend any money because they decided they were more than one (or two or three...) players a way from being a contender, so they tightened the purse strings. I think without the Mauer contract it would have been a similar roster during the lean years, but with $ 15 to 20 million less in payroll.
  6. They actually did better than expected in 2015 when Santana had his steroid time-out and that was a longer absence. Hopefully that will be the case this time, or at least hold their own until he gets back. At least there will no not be the controversy whether he or Darvish is the opening day pitcher.
  7. I believe he is on the Tigers list.
  8. I remember in 2011 or 2012 they dropped the firm that had been doing a lot of the commercials and my thought was, with all the people that you could possibly fire or drop right now or things you could change, you are getting rid of the one thing you are doing right? They had a great stretch of commercials going for awhile there - a lot more memorable than a lot of what you see on Super Bowl Sunday.
  9. While I understand one should not call anyone stupid, is it OK if I can this memorandum stupid, and perhaps imply that Devin Nunes might not be overly-smart. I wonder how much irreparable damage has been done by this little stunt.
  10. It just shows what a sad state things are in when pointing out someone blatantly lying (it was not a minor misrepresentation, there were clearly a number of addresses that had higher ratings) to feed his own ego is simply seen as predictable and his lying is seen as great strategy (and sadder still, is does seem to be a working strategy).
  11. This lie is minor compared to some of his others - but his need to have to be the best that he is either so arrogant and/or delusional that he will lie about something that can be so easily fact-checked is astounding. The fact people just take him lying as Trump being Trump and lies like this barely create any outrage (especially among his followers who think of themselves and moral and usually consider their beliefs as being the most moral) is a sad comment on how low things have sunk. Completely avoiding any fact that does not fit your reality and getting away with this behavior is now Presidential. (FYI - in case you think whatever Trump says is gospel, he really did not have the highest rating ever for his speech,) Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history. @FoxNews beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in. Delivered from the heart!
  12. The way we jump from controversy to controversy these days - with the former controversy being forgotten within a week, because people cannot keep track of everything, who knows what crazy things are going to happen in the next 9 months and what will be on people's minds when they vote. The Democrats are generally worse at turn-out, esp. in midterms. Hopefully, they will realize the seriousness of these elections. If there had been better turn-out in 2016, there would be no need for this thread.
  13. Yes - just because he could read the word "we" last night, every other thing he has done or uttered or tweeted has been pure I, me, and myself. And while he might not as been overtly divisive as normal last night, he threw out enough bread crumbs and dog whistles to satisfy this hard core base. Content aside - I did not think he looked or sounded well. Although we did just find out he was in excellent shape including outstanding mental faculties, so it must have been my imagination.
  14. Maybe he meant he just wants to make a lot of friends and give away a lot of gift baskets.
  15. I was counting on watching them battle in the Championship game in January 2022. First no home super bowl appearance and now this - another dream crushed. I guess I will have to hope for World Series appearance for 2018 instead.
  16. Think he will take time from patting himself on the back, gloating, and mocking his enemies to tweet about the latest school shooting? It is amazing how many tragedies he simply ignores often tweeting something petty about something else while they are happening.
  17. Damn - forgot about 99 year old Millie. Now I am depressed. At least she saw an exciting game last week. .http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2018/01/21/millie-wall-still-a-fan/
  18. Good call - think I am about to join you.
  19. Yes - there were some not so veiled comments about Zimmer after the season. I would say I am having flashbacks to 41-0, but I blocked most of that game out of my mind and thankfully remember little of it.
  20. I think Keenum has his moments both good and bad, but I had a feeling he was going to do something reckless when it was third and long and was not surprised when he through the interception. I was a little more surprised when no one seemed to be able to stop the player as he zig zagged his way to a touch down.
  21. Plus there is the whole creepy aspect where he told her she reminded him of his daughter. Can you imagine the Fox outrage if it came out that Obama had an affair with a porn star when Michelle had just given birth? I guess the FBI is now investigating whether Russia illegally funneled money through the NRA. The NRA has evolved into a kind of scary organization.
  22. If it were not for his bone spurs, I bet he could have been a hall of fame athlete in any sport he chose to participate.
  23. The government is on the verge of a shut-down and Trump and company are taking their time to mock the news media with the fake news awards, which are (or at least were attempted to be) posted on the GOP webpage. That the GOP is posting this on their official webpage is wrong on a number of levels, but accurately points out how Trump is not an anomaly - he reflects the party. Just more evidence that Trump is a symptom of the problem, and he would not have existed if not for the toxic environment that has been building for years. A lot of people out there in power who deep down are not too different than Trump - they just are not as overtly boorish. Somewhat fittingly, they screwed up loading the awards (although strangely Fox News seemed to have them).
